How You Can Help Each year it costs £3 million to run this regional service. Northern Ireland Children's Hospice relies heavily on the public to raise £2.5 million through donations and fundraising events. Da rcy, a g ed 10 Darcy is ten years old and was born with a very rare and incurable condition. This brave little girl has complex medical needs - she can’t speak, walk, see or hear fully, however her wide smile and infectious laugh brighten up the lives of those around her. Darcy’s family care for her at home and this can be very demanding and stressful as she needs constant care. Darcy enjoys regular stays at the Children’s Hospice to give her family respite from the constant care she needs. Darcy’s mum, Janet says, “Hospice is a lifeline for families like us. It keeps normality going and you know they are going to look after her so well. She always comes back very chilled out and happy.” It co s drive ts £1,3 child r to help 80 for a m with a life anage p syringe -limit a ing c in for a ondi tion. Receiving the diagnosis that your child is life-limited is devastating for families and they need support. At Northern Ireland Children’s Hospice we want to make it as easy as possible for local families to access the care and support they need. Thanks to the generosity of local people, Northern Ireland Children’s Hospice can provide a lifeline to kids with a life-limiting condition. Care is provided in the child’s own home and in the children’s hospices in Newtownabbey and Killadeas, Fermanagh. Braver than we can ever imagine - children and young people in Northern Ireland are battling conditions such as cancer, heart disease, muscular dystrophy and degenerative conditions for which there is no known cure. The Children’s Hospice is the only service of its type in Northern Ireland caring for children with very complex needs who require 24 hour specialist care. There are over 600 life-limited children and young people and their families living in Northern Ireland who need care that only the Children’s Hospice can provide. r e hou for on d y n a a p care could £100cialist nursingchild in the pice. of spe apies for a ’s Hos n e ther r d Chil Ci a n, a g ed 11 Cian Corrigan from Dungannon was a courgeous little boy who sadly passed away just six months after being diagnosed with a very rare spinal tumour. Cian was cared for by the Children’s Hospice and his parents continue to raise money so that other children and families can receive the same vital care and support. “Northern Ireland Children’s Hospice helped Cian and our family so much both during his illness and after his passing. The Children’s Hospice is the only organisation here in NI that offers this level of support to life-limited children. They were there for us every step of the way. They are still here for us and that means a lot.” These kids matter and so do their families. 5488 Childrens Hospice Promo Leaflet.indd 4-6 15/08/2012 10:37:31
