SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE
The Faculty Council of Hunter College was organized under the amended by-laws of the Board of
Higher Education and assumed all the responsibilities of the Hunter College faculty on November
4, 1938. The purpose of this body was to discharge its responsibilities in matters pertaining to the
formulation and administration of the curriculum, the granting of degrees, the administration of
student discipline, and others matters customarily delegated to such a body. The Faculty Council
met for the last time on March 12, 1971 and was shortly thereafter replaced by the Hunter College
Senate.
Bound copies of the minutes of the Faculty Council were donated to Archives & Special Collections
by the Hunter College Senate in October 203, and include the calendars, agendas, correspondence,
memoranda, and committee reports from December 21, 1938 to March 3, 1971. The minutes are
arranged chronologically.
This collection also contains calendars, agendas, minutes, and correspondence of the Committee on
Honors (1942 - 1951) and the Committee on Course of Study (1938 - 1971). Both of these
committees operated under the dominion of the Faculty Council and the documents are arranged
chronologically.
