Alan Golden - Business Manager [email protected]. 231 Our guest at this years Union Meeting was Rockford Mayoral candidate Tom McNamara. Tom is a big supporter of labor and fully understands the role that labor plays in our local community. I believe that Tom, as Mayor of Rockford, will be a huge upgrade from the one currently sitting in that seat. We wish him the best of luck in his upcoming election. I would like to extend my gratitude to everyone who helped at this year’s kids Christmas party, there were over 400 in attendance at this year’s party. This event is by far the best event of the year. Retired Brother Tyler Hillman served as our Santa, which is I believe to be his sixteenth year as Santa for the kids of Local Union 364, and I don’t see Ty giving up that seat anytime soon. We began 2016 talking about all the projects that we had coming toward the end of the year but we also had some other interesting things transpire during the year. Just to highlight some of the bigger accomplishments we can start with two jobs that we were able take away from non-signatory Faith Technologies, both of these were substantial projects. ConAgra Foods in South Beloit was done by Morse Electric while Sensient Flavors in Amboy was done by JB Contracting out of IBEW, Local 176. Then next up would be Berners Foods which we took away from non-signatory PDC. This was a big one, at one point we had seven signatory contractors with sixty-five IBEW 364 members on this project. This battle at Berner Foods will be ongoing but we are committed for the long haul. The next thing we were able to do is sign Urban Equities and Justin Fern to a use Union agreements not only for the IBEW but for all trades that NWIBT is comprised of. There is no way we can put a dollar amount on the work that our members with our signatory contractors will do in the upcoming years for Urban Equities. These are just some of the bigger projects that we could secure in 2016 and there were numerous other projects that we were able to be successful on securing work for our members. I would like to thank Assistant Business Manager Dave Cargill, Business Agent Larry Rowlett, Organizer Brad Williams and most importantly all our members who manned the picket lines and helped turn these projects into IBEW projects. At our Chrysler project, we currently have 350 IBEW members working with more to come in the upcoming weeks. There are 183 traveling brothers and sisters from 52 different IBEW Local Unions. We are glad each one of them is here, because we couldn’t do this project without them. I would like to personally thank Brothers Steve Kinney, Brian Urbanowitz, Chris Molander and Mike Miller for taking on the Steward responsibilities for this shut down. The year 2017 will be an extremely busy year for the union office, along with the projects we have we will be negotiating three contracts this year. Our newly organized low voltage division at NIU, ADT and our Inside Agreement. We are finishing up on our three-year Inside Agreement that was awarded at CIR in Washington D.C. and will be taking suggestions for the upcoming Inside Contract negotiations at the February union meeting. Local Union 364 suffered losses as well in 2016 as 12 of our members passed on. In the local union office, there is never a higher day then when you are referring members out to work, and there is never a lower day then when one of our members passes on. One of these losses struck home for myself and that is the loss of Tyrone Bell at the age of 44. As a Journeyman Wireman I always enjoyed watching our Apprentices as they moved through our Apprenticeship Program and made it to that day where they earned the right to call themselves a 364 Journeyman Wireman. That is a right that Brother Tyrone Bell, along with watching his kids grow up, was taken away from him. Our brother’s kids now have the task of growing up without their father. Under these circumstances the resolve of this family will be tested time and time again and I wish them the best. I would like to extend a sincere thank you for all of you who stepped up to help not only Brother Tyrone Bell’s family, but every time one of our own members or members family is in need, you are right there for them. I am very proud to be your Business Manager. God Bless you all for what you do. I would like to wish all IBEW members and their families a happy holidays and a prosperous new year. Alan Golden BOONE/JO DAVIESS/STEPHENSON/WINNEBAGO Larry Rowlett - Business Agent - [email protected] - X222 The calls have been steadily coming in lately with the official start of the Chrysler re-tool beginning for the new Jeep Cherokee on December 26th, along with other calls from contractors working in our jurisdiction. The calls for Chrysler will still be coming in over the next few weeks, but instead of the big 60 man calls that we’ve seen lately, they should be on a smaller scale of 10-20 man calls. Morse should be hiring more manpower after they get all the new hires onsite and determine where they will need to fill in crews. As of now, Morse is at about 200 Wiremen on days and 24 Wiremen on nights. Chris Molander is the day shift steward for Morse Electric, and will also be the bull steward for the Electrical Workers. Mike Miller is the night shift steward for Morse. Both brothers will do a great job representing Local 364 and all our IBEW members onsite. PayneCrest currently have 106 Wiremen total onsite with 70 on days and 36 on nights. PayneCrest could be hiring more manpower after things really get rolling. Both Stewards for PayneCrest, Steve Kinney on days and Bryan Urbanowitz on nights, have been doing a great job thus far and things have been going well. Kelso-Burnett currently has 27 Wiremen onsite working on (2) separate projects. Kelso should also be hiring more Wiremen in the future. Conti Electric will be hiring after the New Year, and currently have 10 Wireman onsite. Total manpower for Conti should be around 40-50 Wiremen for their (2) projects in Stamping and Body Shop. LiveWire Electric is scheduled to begin work on a couple projects after the New Year begins. Details of the projects are still being worked out, but LiveWire will also need to hire for this work. The OSF Saint Anthony project is still crawling at a snail’s pace. Currently, Ringland Johnson is still trying to enclose the building for the winter months. To date they have temporary heat set up and running in the basement, but seem to be a ways off for the rest of the building. Fleming Electric is back onsite and have (2) Wiremen cleared in on portability. Fleming possibly could hire a couple Wiremen at the end of January, but figure that things won’t really get moving along until the end of March. Westphal Electric is also now onsite, and have (2) Wiremen cleared in on portability. Westphal is saying that they probably won’t be hiring any manpower until the end of March or beginning of April. Eventually, this project must start moving forward, and as always, we will keep everyone informed on any new information we receive. outage set to start March 6th through April 1st. There is a possibility of some post outage work to be performed, but still has not yet been approved. At the Berner Foods project in Afolke, work has finished up on a lot of the earlier projects. More phases of work are coming soon, along with more lines to be installed in the new production addition. We are not done with doing work at Berner Foods by any means, and we will continue going after these upcoming projects. Currently, most of our contractors are now offsite, and Morse is down to just a few Wiremen. We would like to thank Brothers Ira Haugen from Engel Electric and Chris Myers from Morse Electric for taking on the Steward role onsite for Local 364. Both Brothers have done a fantastic job representing the Local, and all our Brothers and Sisters. Thank You Both!! I would like to wish all the Brothers and Sisters of Local 364 and their Families a Happy New Year!!! Larry Rowlett The new Mercy Hospital project has slowed down a bit because of the winter weather. Currently we are still awaiting the outcome on what electrical contractor will be awarded the main contract. At the Byron Powerhouse, Exelon and CB&I are starting to get ready for the upcoming refueling outage. Hiring for pre-outage work should start at the end of January, with the MEMBERSHIP DEVELOPMENT COORDINATOR Brad Williams - [email protected] - X228 The winter weather has settled in since our last meeting and IBEW, Local 364 has been busy putting several members to work. Over the course of the last few weeks we have picketed Napleton’s on Perryville against C&S Electric and also picketed Family Video in Machesney Park against Canduit Electric. We will continue our picket and handbill activities throughout the winter months, weather permitting, so if anyone is available please contact me at the hall. We have had a very strong year, with our member support we have been able to continually push back on any non-signatory threats we have had in IBEW, Local 364’s jurisdiction and will continue to fight for our members to protect and secure our future work and our standard of living. Without your support, we would not be as strong as we are. We would like to personally thank all of our members who have called in checking on work and a special thanks go out to all of our picketers and handbillers who have helped over the course of 2016. There is an updated boycott list in this issue of the Sparks as well as on our website. Please look at it to insure we are only patronizing union friendly businesses. We also have our thank you business cards available in the office for our union friendly businesses that we want to patronize, to let them know why we are spending our hard-earned money at their business. Brad Williams CARROLL/DEKALB/LEE/OGLE/WHITESIDE Dave Cargill - Assistant Business Manager - [email protected] - Ext. 280 Winter is now upon us, and work in the southern counties has slowed down. With the new year coming, we are looking ahead to projects in 2017. The DeKalb County Jail Expansion should be getting busier once the building is enclosed. About half of the pre-cast walls are standing and some steel has been erected. Morse Electric has this job. Down the street, the Sycamore Park District will be building a new Community Center. Ringland Johnson will be the Construction Manager for this project. Finney’s Electric is at the Opportunity House where the back of the building is being remodeled. Finney’s continues to work on the renovation of Fargo on State and have just finished the GKC Theater in DeKalb. Engel Electric is working on site lighting at Nestle. Ballard Electric is back at the NIU Stevens Building. Excavation for the addition to the east side of the building has just been done and foundation work should follow closely.
