1. Compile learning outcomes data
2. Response to six NCATE standards: Candidate Knowledge, Skills, and Professional
Dispositions; Assessment System and Unit Evaluation; Field Experiences and
Clinical Practice; Diversity; Faculty Qualifications; Performance, and Development;
and Unit Governance and Resources
3. Complete the Institutional Report
4. Develop an Exhibit Room (real and online) to house all necessary documents and
data to respond to the NCATE standards
5. Prepare for the on-site visit
6. complete Florida Department of Education continued State Approval concurrently
with NCATE
7. Respond to three FLDOE standards: Core Curriculum Content; Candidate
Performance; Continuous Improvement

Admission of the first cohort for the
Doctorate in Education (Ed.D.) with
concentrations in Educational Leadership
and Curriculum & Instruction. Students
may also apply to the Education Specialist's
degree.
What action(s) will you undertake to achieve the goal?
In the spring of 2012 the Admissions Committee will review all applications. They will
select a pool of students and interview them. From this pool the first cohort will be
chosen. Their plan of study will be approved and they will begin coursework in the fall of
2012.

The Master's in Special Education M.Ed. will
convert all course delivery to an online
format to make the program accessible to
all qualified teachers.
What action(s) will you undertake to achieve the goal?
The faculty in the graduate Special Education program will convert all instruction from
face-to-face and a hybrid format to all online course delivery to make M.Ed. in Special
Education accessible to candidates across the state. Information regarding the program
course delivery format is being distributed through the COE website; Facebook; and
program information flyers.

Create a crosswalk for post baccalaureate
teacher certification students to move into
our Educator Preparation Institute
(EPI) and then into our C&I M.Ed.
What action(s) will you undertake to achieve the goal?
1. Develop a work group within the Graduate Curriculum Team consisting of members
from TIP, C&I faculty, DOE certification ombudsman, and senior College of
Education administration.
2. Identify courses that all three programs currently share in common.
3. Identify content of current EPI courses (with EPI prefix) that offer no graduate
credit.
4. Identify graduate courses in either the course-by-course teacher certification route
or the C&I M.ED that align with the EPI courses.
5. Identify EPI content that may not exist in any current graduate courses.
6. Develop new course(s), if needed.
7. Submit revision of the EPI and the C&I M.ED to College of Education graduate
curriculum team by September 2011.
8. If approved, submit revisions, including new course(s), to university graduate
curriculum team by October 2011.
9. If approved, implement the crosswalk option in fall 2012.

1. Develop a system to collect needed data for various accreditations (CACREP, DOE,
NCATE, SACS) and generate reports by course, program or standard.
2. Dedicate 2 days per year for program review.
3. Review the annual pass rates on subject area and professional state exams to
determine if a program needs to be adjusted.

2. Continued first time offerings of courses for the first cohort of the Education
Specialist (Ed.S.) candidates.
3. Revision of the M.Ed. in Elementary Education and recruitment of candidates for
the first cohort of the revised program.

Unit wide support for candidate cocurricular educational organizations, honor
societies, and service activities
What action(s) will you undertake to achieve the goal?
1. Faculty is given service credit for advising students in Kappa Delta Pi, an education
honor society, and encourages students to join professional organizations. The
organizations meet on campus and candidates participate in university sponsored
activities and service.
2. The faculty is given service credit for advising Chi Sigma Iota, a counseling honor
society, and encourages students to join this professional organization. The
organization meets on campus and participates in university sponsored activities
and service.
3. The faculty is given service credit for advising the student chapter of Eagles
Educate ACEI and encourage students to join this professional organization. The
organization meets on campus and participates in university sponsored activities.
4. Candidates may apply for a $100 stipend to defray the cost of attending their
national organization conference.

1. Utilize the National Writing Project (NWP) at Florida Gulf Coast University cadre of
Teacher Consultants to design and provide professional development
activities/events.
2. Schedule a series of open workshops funded by the NWP grant.
3. Provide materials (books, etc.) for participants.
4. Provide high quality presenters for conference format events.
5. Provide support for the Sanibel Island Writers Conference.
6. Schedule Invitational Summer Institutes (ISI) on a 20-day workshop format for
area teachers.
7. Schedule special 5-day Mini-Summer Institute specifically for Hendry/Glades
teachers (to be conducted in Hendry County).
8. Provide Advanced Institute for the purpose of developing leadership skills for ISI
participants to promulgate additional development in area schools.

1. Research current advisor assessment instruments, especially those from ACT and
NACADA.
2. Research forms of delivery.
3. Meet with advisors and administrators and determine what information is desired
from assessment, what is the best method of delivery, and how to best insure
anonymity of student responders.
4. Develop draft assessment instrument.
5. Meet with university and college experts in assessment and get feedback about
draft assessment instrument.

2. Locate electronic copies of all approved university and college resources that should
be included in handbook.
3. Develop draft handbook, insure it is consistent with graduate handbook, and obtain
approval from advisors and administrators.
4. Edit draft and receive final approval.
5. Publish handbook on the College of Education website.

Advance the level of education in the
educational community and increase
enrollment in our teacher education
preparation programs and our graduate
programs.
What action(s) will you undertake to achieve the goal?
1.
Initial development of the EDGE Academy. This is an accelerated 15 month (5 th
year) master’s degree for the highest achieving FGCU COE graduates. Participants
will take graduate courses in the summer immediately following their
undergraduate graduation and will take graduate courses as well as a supervised
practicum in their first fall and spring semesters of teaching.
2. The cohort of Ed.S Student will begin conducting their culminating
experiences towards the completion of their Ed.S. degrees.
3. A new Ed.S. Cohort will be recruited for the Fall of 2010.
4. The faculty will continue to advocate for the inauguration of an Ed.D. degree
program in the College of Education. The Committee may have to update the
forms for new courses and new programs due to the time that has passed since the
program was originally proposed.

Creation of the end-of-program surveys of
graduates and their employers with results

What action(s) will you undertake to achieve the goal?
1. A graduate assistant will be hired to help create the surveys, distribute, compile
and analyze the data from the surveys for the graduate programs.
2. Unified surveys are being developed for all of the graduate programs sent to
graduates and their employers.
3. The surveys will be distributed to the graduates and their employers.
4. The surveys will be administered and results collected and analyzed during this
summer.
5. Results will be distributed to graduate program faculty at the first fall faculty
meeting.

tracking system for graduate students' academic progress through their programs.
2. Faculty advisors will be trained to use CAPP.
3. The system will be piloted.
