Report on combined meeting with Auckland East - 3 April
About 35 of our members enjoyed the hospitality afforded by President Dennis
Millard and his Auckland East Rotarians at the Tamaki Yacht Club venue. The host
club were in recovery mode after a busy day running the Soap Box Derby at
Stonefields on Sunday.
After a very acceptable meal the combined audience settled down for an extensive sergeant’s session, the blanket fine being of anyone who had not altered all

duce, the outlay is huge. The replica Globe cost about $500,000, 30 professional
actors have 5 month contracts, there are 13 costumiers and 90 full-time support
and logistics staff – some outlay! However, the profit motive is coupled with a
desire to turn casual theatre-goers into habitual attendees simple by ensuring
that each experience is ‘unmissable’. It is clear, Miles is on to a winner as were
we in having the opportunity to hear his amazing story of imaginative enterprise.

From the President’s Corner 3/04/2017
I returned from Wellington along with Malcolm McLagan after handing our Piston Broke Team Mazda 626 in great shape to
Del Johnston. We left Auckland and due to the great weight of Ray Chisholm in the rear, quickly learned that our super flash
wide wheels were just that – too wide. Every slight bump we went over resulted in a clash between tyre and guard. This was
resolved in Matamata with a local friendly (no charge) panel beater who bent the wheel arch lip out of the road. You would
not know this had been done. It was further assisted by removal of our luggage and trays of water. Ray also helped by becoming a driver for another car the next day as the driver of that vehicle returned to Auckland due to health issues.
All in all a great event – recommend it to anyone and look forward to it next year.
Duncan Loney is organising a Partners Evening for Monday 15 th with our very own Linda Agnew and group providing the entertainment for the evening – more to come later.

Calling out for Rotarian volunteers for Top Schools!
We are in desperate need for volunteers. It doesn’t necessarily need to be a Rotarian. If you have any partners, children,
friends that would like to volunteer as well, we wouldn’t say no. It is on the 9th of April. If you can’t make it for the whole day,
that doesn’t matter, your presence would be welcomed!

BANGERS TO BLUFF CHARITY
FUNDRAISER UPDATE FROM
TEAM “PISTON BROKE”
Ode to the B2B and the 2D’s (Dawn & Del)
A Rotary project named Bangers to Bluff
Has members driving stages so it won’t be so tough
It’s cause is for Alzheimers and Injuries to the Brain
And we hope the long distances don’t cause a strain
The Mazda’s clock shows over 300,000 k’s
And we all hope, it will last out the days
It has been given the name of Piston Broke
But has nothing to do with alcohol you folk!
Sponsorship from companies and Rotary men
Sees advertising and stickers from bonnet to end
The longest leg is from Wellington to Bluff
And by the time it is reached it will be quite enough
That last leg will be driven by Rotarian Del
And in Christchurch he’ll be joined by Dawn as well
Getting to Invercargill is such a long way
But it is there that they will celebrate a very special day
Fifty years ago they honeymooned there
So Happy Anniversary to this dedicated pair
Both have worked hard for Rotary events
Combined with Inner Wheel their contribution is immense
Enjoy the trip we wish you all the best
And hope the charity drive proves to be a huge success

DAY 2 REPORT FROM MALCOLM McLAGAN
Off to a good start from Rotorua this morning with no rain.
Four cars including us decided the scheduled route was a bit boring so headed off to Murapara for breakfast then off to Lake Waikaremoana. Great scenery, rough roads.
Headed from there down to Wairoa where Malcolm met a primary school friend in the pup. Ray ended up driving another car as the driver
took sick and headed back to Auckland.
Good run from Wairoa to Hastings. Brenda ' car blew 4 tyres. Off for dinner as a group.
DAY 3 REPORT FROM MALCOLM McLAGAN
Another great day on the road.
Bit of drama this morning when car keys nowhere to be seen.
Turned the motel upside down several times, unpacked and repacked our bags. Even called in the ladies to have a girls look for them.
Finally found keys lodged in the wheel of Malcolm's suit case.
Might have to shout drinks tonight.
Drove over Gentle Annie road today which was great. Rally driver Peter had it nailed when passing trucks and tractors. Ray driving the Laser
was left in the dust again.
Had barbecue in Fielding for lunch put on by Fruehauf one of the major sponsors.
Called into Manfield racetrack to watch some racing practice. Arrived in Seaview late afternoon for night. Caught up with Del. Off to club for
dinner tonight then Peter and Malcolm fly home tomorrow. Over to Del to update you all from now on.
