Expository Prompt
Read the following quotation.
I never doubted that equal rights was the right direction.
Most reforms, most problems are complicated. But to
me there is nothing complicated about ordinary

Think about the following information. Everyone is born with varying degrees of mental and
physical ability. But in the year 2081, everyone who is mentally or physically above average
has handicaps. George Bergeron is one of these people. When his wife suggests that he
remove some of his handicaps while at home, George replies that he can't because, "then
other people'd get away with it—and pretty soon we'd be right back to the dark ages again,
with everybody competing against everybody else. You wouldn't like that, would you?"
Write an essay explaining whether you agree or disagree with George Bergeron’s statement
about competition.
