Superb Smylie Secures O’Reilly Off Sales Singles Stableford
Francis Smylie (24) was on top form to win the overall prize on Wednesday 15th April with 43 pts.
Narrowly beaten for the top prize was Robin Prescott (14) who won the mid-section prize with 42
pts. The low section was won by our senior cup captain Colm Campbell Snr (4) who returned 41 pts
while the high section winner was Joseph O’Connor Snr with 40 pts. The best gross prize went to PJ

Seamus puts on a Parrful display to take the Thursday Open
Seamus Parr (14) was victorious in the Thursday Open on 17th April with 38 pts pushing Dessie Sloan
(18) into second with 37 pts. Kathleen Byrne’s (18) 34 pts was good enough to win the ladies prize!
Mc Alinden Masters the Sister Cities Singles Stableford on Saturday 18th April
A sunny but windy Saturday brought tricky playing conditions but Neil Mc Alinden (18) put together
a superb 40 pts to win the main prize. He was closely followed by Anton Tighe (16) who also fired 40
pts but with a weaker back 9. Anton won the high section while the low section was won by Noel
Devine (8) with 39 pts and the middle section by Ronan Gray (14) with 39 pts. 39 pts was a popular
score with all the section runners up finishing on this score. Paul Devine (7) was runner up in the low
section, Paul Grant (11) in the middle section and Paul Greenan (16) in the high section. The lowest
gross was returned by Shane Mc Mahon (5) with 34 Gross pts.

For the second time in a matter of days Neil Mc Alinden (17) has posted a winning score and this
time it was an incredible 44 pts that made him the clear winner. In second was Seamus Parr (14)
with 41 pts, winning the middle section. The low section prize went to Paul Reavey (0) with 41 pts
and the high section prize was won by Joseph Larkin (16) with 40 pts. The best gross on the day went
Ryan Gribben (-1) who had a 3 under round of 68.
Curtis cruises to victory in Hill Vellacott Accountants Singles Stableford
A day mixed with showers, sun and wind made for difficult conditions for all the players in the field.
It was Mark Curtis (14) who manoeuvred his way around the course in 40 pts to claim first place and
the overall prize. Close behind with 39 pts were a contingent of players. Winning the low section was
Brian Mc Kee (3), while the middle section prize went to Sam Grattan (11) and the high section to
Michael Devlin (23). Also on 39pts was Stanley Weir (5), runner up in the low section, and Robert
Ferguson (26), runner up in the high section. Dave Scott (10) took the runner up prize in the middle
section with 38 pts. The best gross on the day was returned by Ros Carvill (3) with 34 Gross pts.
Gervase Grasps Victory in Phibsboro Dental Clinic Singles Stableford
The morning starters got the best of the weather on Wednesday 29th April and Gervase Mc Guigan
(23) took full advantage to fire a round of 42 pts and take top spot. Another morning starter, Noel
Weir (19), also returned 42 pts which won the high section. The middle section winner was Raymond
Duffin (12) with 38 pts while John Spiers (9) took the low section with 38 pts also. The lowest gross
on the day was returned by Jack Campbell (3) with 35 Gross pts.

38 pts was the best score in the Thursday Open with visitor Donal Barron taking first spot and
member Joseph Mc Lean taking 2nd.

Joseph Lenfestey (12) returned 41 pts to win our Saturday competition on 9th May. The Section
Winners all scored 40 pts with Brian Mc Kee (3) winning the low section, Mervyn Smyth (11) taking
the middle section and Pat Hornby (18) winning the high section. The section runners up were
Raymond Jackson (8) 38 pts, Daniel Mullan (11) 40 pts and Christopher Quinn (19) 40 pts. The best
juvenile score on the day was recorded by Jason Murphy (3) with 39 pts while Jamie Fletcher (0) had
the best gross with 36 Gross pts.

Niall Quinn (23) fired a superb 44 pts to take the mid-week competition. Close behind was Dessie
Brady (11) with 42 pts which won the middle section. Eugene Mc Nulty (22) led the high section with
41 pts while the low section was won by Dave Scott (9) with 39 pts. The best gross was returned by
Jamie Fletcher (0) with 37 Gross pts.
Youngsters Dominate Thursday Open
Our juveniles put in some superb performances to come out on top in our Thursday Open on 14th
May. An incredible 47 pts from Anthony Mc Ateer (12) made him the clear outright winner while
Jason Murphy (3) fired a 2 under par 41 pts to take 2nd spot.
Russell & Jennings head the qualifiers for the Prescott Salver
Fourball Stableford was the format of the day on Saturday 16th May and it was Ian Russell and Kevin
Jennings who took full advantage scoring a brilliant 46 pts to be leading qualifiers. The top 32 pairs
made it through to the matchplay stages with 39 pts being the required score. There were a select
few on 39 pts who missed out based on their back 9.
Fletcher fires 41 pts in CR Morrow Singles
The back 9 proved important for the overall prize with 4 players on the same score of 41 pts.
However, it was Richard Fletcher (9) who proved strongest here to come in first and take the main
prize. Brendan Moley (21) won the high section on the same score while Niall Mc Givern (8) and
Tony Keenan (10) won their respective section prizes on the same score. The section runners up
were Sean Mc Donagh (16) with 40 pts, PJ Parr (3) with 38 pts and Paul Reavey (12) with 39 pts.
David Barron (1) returned the best gross with 36 Gross pts and Vincent Toner won the juvenile prize
with 40 pts.
O’Connor Champion in Bank Holiday Singles
Jim O’Connor (22) fired a best of the day 37 pts to win the open singles on Monday 25th May. In
second was juvenile Anthony Mc Ateer (7) who also finished with 37 pts but was beaten on the back
9 for first place.

It was a day filled with rain and wind making tricky playing conditions for the competitors on
Wednesday 27th May. It was Jonathan Parr (18) who negotiated the conditions best to win the
overall prize with 39 pts. The low section prize went to Stephen Coulter (+1) who had 37 pts while
paddy Mac Mahon (13) won the middle section with 38 pts. Peter Mc Sherry (21) won the high
section with 37 pts while the best gross went to Ryan Gribben (0) with 35 Gross pts. Michael Mc
Gurk (4) returned the best score from the juveniles with 39 pts.
Barry Best of the Bunch in Seatruck Ferries Singles Stableford
Barry Laverty (10) returned a best of the day 40 pts to win the main prize on Saturday 30th May. The
section prizes went to Raymond Jackson (8) with 38 pts, Gary Boylan (11) with 38 pts and Paul
Fitzsimons (25) with 40 pts. The section runners up the day were Tony Keenan (9), Anton Tighe (15)
and Damien Redmond (20), all scoring 38 pts. Michael Reavey Jnr (7) won the juvenile prize with 36
pts and David Barron (1) took the gross prize with 31 Gross pts.
Hanna Finishes Strong to win Wednesday Singles
A birdie on the 18th separated William Hanna (13) from the rest. The birdie resulted in 44 pts for
William who beat both Raymond Duffin (11) and Gerry Robertson (16) for the top prize. Raymond
and Gerry both finished with 43 pts and won their respective section prizes. Stephen Coulter (+1)
returned a 3 under par 68 to win the gross prize while Jason Murphy (2) won the juvenile prize with

A superb round of Level par saw Stephen Campbell (7) win the Thursday Open with 43 pts. Close
behind in 2nd was Ryan Gribben (0) with a very impressive 5 under par 66 for 41 pts.

Paul Darragh (17) managed the tricky conditions best and finished with 38 pts beating 3 others on
the back 9 to the overall prize. The section winners were John Spiers (9) with 38 pts, Michael Keenan
(12) with 37 pts and Pat Mc Evoy (20) with 38 pts. The section runners up were Paul Magee (6) with
36 pts, Finn Sherry (13) with 37 pts and Tom Delahunt (20) with 38 pts. The Gross prize went to

OPEN WEEK A MAJOR SUCCESS FOR WARRENPOINT
Lovely weather and a pristine course ensured that the Open Week competitions in Warrenpoint
were enjoyed by all who played.
On Monday the Savage and Whitten sponsored 4-person team competition was won by Bernard
O’Hare. Christopher Carroll, Paul Carroll and Shane McMahon with a fine score of 95 points, just one
ahead of Vincent Toner, Shea O’Brien, John Dunne and Patrick McKenna who pushed them all the
way. With 91 points, 3rd place went to Kevin Rooney, Jim Somerville, Peter Rooney and Ivan
McMichael.
ROCK SOLID KEENAN POWERS TO VICTORY
EB Gas Services sponsored the Wednesday competition which was won with a magnificent score of
45 points by Michael Keenan, playing off 12. Michael played very steady golf on the front nine to
score 20 points with 4 over. Birdies at 11 and the tricky 13th saw him 1 under for the back 9 with 25
points and a well-deserved win.
Young Michael McCann[4] is never far away and finished 2nd with 43 points
John Dunne and Larry Powell, both playing off 14 finished 3rd and 4th respectively, and Brian
McKee[3] had the best gross score with 36 gross points.
TMV Consultants sponsored Thursdays Fourball. Ex Irish hockey international Robert Taylor and his
partner Andrew O’Brien returned 44 points, after playing some very tasty, golf to take 1st place from
the more senior stalwarts, Larry Powell and Dessie Sloan with 43. In 3rd place, also with 43 points,
were Ciaran and Paul Reavey.
MICHAEL FITZPATRICK SCRAPES HOME ON SATURDAY
The popular and reliable star of the so-far successful Pierce Purcell team, Michael Fitzpatrick[16]
edged out his nephew Darren McGivern[9] and Anton McArdle[12] on count-back to win the
prestigious Newcel sponsored Saturday competition and book his place in the end-of-season
Champion of Champions contest. Michael scored 22 on the front with a birdie 2 at the 6th, but must
have thought he’d thrown it all away after not scoring at 15. Fortunately for him, Darren doublebogied the same hole for no score also, his only blip on a fine round with 4 birdies at 1,4,10 and 11.
Colm Campbell[4] also played some great golf to finish 1 under par with 41 points, with Gerry
Quinn[27] in 5th place on 40 points after count-back from David McGurk[17], who won the visitor
prize, Richard Convery, Ray McCarthy and Liam Gawley. All these players will be cut a shot for their
next competition.
Shane McMahon[5] won the gross prize and the promising young David McGurk, playing off 4, was
the best juvenile.
Golfers are reminded that the Thursday open competitions will continue to run throughout the
summer and all visitors are very welcome.
Grant Cruises to Victory in Wednesday Singles
A superb 47pts from Paul Grant (11) meant he was the clear victor in our Down PVC Singles on 1st
July. Our section winners were Fergal Mc Conaghy (9) with 40 pts, Miceal Clerkin (10) with 43 pts
and Ronan Sands (18) with 42 pts. Stephen Coulter (+1) fired an excellent round of 4 under par to
score 40 Gross pts and win the gross prize. Adam Loughran (12) was the best of juveniles with 39
pts.
Hanna Claims Thursday Open in Style
William Hanna (+1), from Kilkeel Golf Club, returned a 4 under par 67 to win the Thursday Open on
39 pts. Finishing on the same score was Daniel Mullan (11). Daniel was beaten on the back 9 for top
spot but took the runner up prize.
Dominate Devine in Iveagh Leisure Singles
Noel Devine (8) fired an incredible 45 pts to win by 4 in our Saturday Singles. The section winners
were Conor Fegan (7) with 40 pts, Daniel Mullan (10) with 39 pts and Conor Mc Cartan (20) with 41
pts. The section runners up were Niall Mc Givern (8) with 38 pts, Clifford O’Brien (10) with 37 pts and
Brian Savage (20) with 41 pts. Colm Campbell Jnr (+3) took the gross prize with 36 Gross pts and
juvenile Ethan Patterson (20) fired 41 pts to win the Juvenile prize.
