Who should you get to know better? Why should you even bother with building a network? Many students think networking is only for the job search and typically don’t consider their network until graduation. But the best time to build your network is now; before you need it. Come to this session to learn more! Participants will learn about the Social Change Model of Leadership, including basics of social change and the role that leaders and followers play in the process of making changes for the common good. What issues face the LGBT community as they take on leadership roles within organizations and in the workplace? This session will introduce all students to this concept and provide great insight into a growing area of leadership. Keynote speaker Jason LeVasseur will teach student leaders how to be “rock star student leaders.” Participants will also attend two breakout sessions and learn more about the policies and procedures that govern SIUE student organizations. College is a stressful time for everyone. Learning skills to handle stress in constructive ways is extremely important and will carry you through life. Being a strong leader is much more than organizational skills. Developing your emotional intelligence can take your leadership to the next level. Come learn more about what emotional intelligence is and how you can use it to enhance your leadership. Actions speak louder than words. Learn why your non-verbal communication is much more believable than what you say and why sometimes perception is reality. Sure social media is fun, but do you know how to effectively use it to lead a group? Do you know the do’s and don’ts of social media as you try to get a job? This session will provide you with useful tools to successfully navigate the ever changing world of social media. Join SIUE as we discuss the topic of diversity and leadership in a safe and inclusive setting. This program will feature three breakout sessions and participants will have the opportunity select which sessions they attend. Are you thinking about pursuing a graduate or professional degree? Do you know what steps you need to take while completing your undergraduate degree to prepare you for an advanced education? How do you apply? How are the expectations different in graduate school?
