Students and Parents, please assist the A. Maceo Walker faculty and staff in ensuring your
child is safe in his/her travels to and from
school. This can be done by cautioning them
to cross at the appropriate and designated
places. The bridge located on the west side of
the school is NOT a clear and safe zone for
crossing, as a child was injured by a car while
crossing there during the early morning hours.
Please join us and continue to remind our
students that we want them to practice
“SAFETY FIRST” at all times! Also, encourage
your child to stay away from social media and
check your child’s backpack each day.
Homework… What’s The Point?
Homework is an effective tool when used as a form of practice
designed for application of knowledge. Homework for young children is assigned for the purpose of developing study habits and
also for the purpose of involving parents. For both elementary and
secondary students, practice helps answer the question, "How will
this knowledge be applied?" Without practice, little long-term
learning occurs. Please make sure that your child completes his/
her homework each night. Teachers at A. Maceo Walker Middle
School are assigning homework each day.

Parent Tips for a Successful
School Year (Part 2)
Parents, there are a few simple steps you can do to help
your child keep all the pieces together for a successful
school year.
Communicate – Frequent short talks have more of an impact than infrequent long talks. Provide opportunities for your child to discuss the challenges they face as they develop their own identity and make their own
choices.
Say Thank You - Teachers strive to inspire students to be lifelong learners. They often make the work they do look effortless, but it requires a
lot of work and countless hours of planning to do what they do.
Let them know you appreciate them.
