Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Wash the potatoes and
set in a large stock pot. Add enough water to cover the
potatoes by 2-3” of Water. Add a 1/2 tsp. of salt to the
water. Bring to a rolling boil. Next prepare the flat iron
steak. First, cut the 8 oz. steak into 2 sections, cutting across
the fibers as shown in the picture.
3
Lay a cut piece of steak in between the provided butcher
paper, shiny side touching the meat. Pound out the meat to
1/4” to 1/2” thickness. We recommend doing this with a
meat mallet but if you don’t have one, then a rolling pin or a
can of soup will work. Repeat for each piece of meat.
4
Next, one by one, lay each flattened piece of flat iron steak
on a cutting board. Sprinkle with provided Montreal steak
seasoning. Add one slice of the Canadian bacon and then a
slice of the gouda cheese.
5
In a frying pan
with a lid, heat
1 Tablespoons of
olive oil over
medium heat.
Once oil is hot, lay
each steak roulade
in the pan. Braise
each roulade on top and bottom for 2-3 minutes
or until browned. Cover with a lid to help eliminate
grease splattering.
7
Roll the steak up and insert a
toothpick all the way through
the steak roulade, protruding
evenly on both
sides to keep it all
together.
Repeat this for each
piece of meat.
6
Once the braising is complete, lay each roulade in a
9X9 Baking Dish. Sprinkle the top with 1/4 Tbs. of onion
powder. Cover with tinfoil and place in oven. Note: If you
desire a medium rare steak, bake for 15 minutes, medium
steak 20 minutes, well done steak 25 minutes.
8
While those are baking, wash, peel and slice the provided
kiwi fruit. Set aside in refrigerator until the rest of the meal
is done. Check the potatoes. When they are fork tender,
turn the heat source for them off, leaving them in the hot
water until the meat is done, then you can drain the water.
The potatoes need to be cooked enough to easily smash
with a dinner fork.
When everything for your meal is complete, plate kiwi slices,
potatoes and steak roulade (remove toothpick, slice and top
with A1). Serve potatoes slightly mashed on plate with a
fork, top with butter, sour cream and salt and pepper.
Enjoy your Delicious Family Dinner!
