This building has not been designed for or adapted for use by persons in wheelchairs and persons who have difficulty with mobility or are infirm. Introduction. 1-7 Roxburgh Street houses two wholly-owned subsidiary companies of the University of Edinburgh. These include Edinburgh Research and Innovation Ltd and Research into Results Ltd. Edinburgh Research and Innovation Ltd are responsible for pre-award research support services, management of technology transfer activities, consultancy services, company formation and incubation facilities. Research into Results' principal activity is the delivery of research and project management services in the area of international development. This specifically includes assisting projects and funders to enhance impact from academic research. Location. 1-7 Roxburgh Street is located within what is referred to as the Central Campus of the University of Edinburgh which is well served by public transport. The building is within approximately a quarter of a mile of the city centre and is within approximately one mile of the main student residences at Pollock Halls. The nearest railway line is at Waverley Station in the city centre. The nearest bus stops are located on Holyrood Road and South Bridge in excess of 200 metres of 1-7 Roxburgh Street. The number 36 Lothian bus service stops on Holyrood Road and numerous other services stop on South Bridge (see map on the following page). Persons arriving by vehicle can access 1-7 Roxburgh Street from Drummond Street via South Bridge, or alternatively from East Adam Street via the Pleasance (see map on the following page). Anyone wishing to park within a university bay must display a valid parking permit. This includes staff, students, visitors and contractors. There is a university car park located off Drummond Street to the front of the neighbouring Old Infirmary (Geography) Building (see location map). The main entrance is located at the front of number 5 Roxburgh Street. Main entrance image. Access to the main entrance is via four steps which have railings on both sides. The main entrance door is secure (although is usually fastened open during opening hours), is single width, opens inwards and has a threshold step at the base. There is a card proximity reader/keypad located to the left of the main entrance door and there is an intercom call point located within the main entrance lobby. Page 9 . The secondary entrance door is secure and requires a valid university smartcard to access. There is a swipe card access point and an intercom call point located at the top of the steps and to the right of the secondary entrance door. The entrance door is heavy, opens inwards and has a threshold step at the base. There is a further entrance located at the front of number 7 Roxburgh Street, which provides direct access to the Research into Results department. Research into Results entrance image. Page 10 . The entrance door is secure and requires a valid university smartcard to access. There is a swipe card access point and an intercom call point located at the top of the steps and to the right of the entrance door. The entrance door opens inwards and has a threshold step at the base. If you are visiting 1-7 Roxburgh Street for the first time, the main entrance is the recommended access point. There is not currently a disabled call point at any of the entrances. If you have mobility difficulties and intend to access 1-7 Roxburgh Street, it is therefore recommended that contact is made with Building Management prior to your journey (see contact information page). Access is not currently suitable for wheelchair users and is not recommended for persons with severe mobility difficulties. Reception. There is a reception which incorporates a waiting area. - Upon entering the building at the main entrance, the reception can be accessed by proceeding through the first door on the left (see ground floor plan). - The reception desk is not recessed. - Lighting levels are good. - There is no induction loop.
