Today, The Home is a nationally renowned, private, non-profit child and family services agency, the oldest of its kind in the nation (Abigail Adams was an early donor) and the largest in New England. With 20 programs and nearly 800 employees, The Home serves thousands of children and families each year through a system of residential care, community-based prevention and early intervention services, adoption, foster care, clinical and family support, special education, and case management. The present organization reflects a vastly expanded range of services and programs through the merging over the last decade of four major local organizations: Boston Children’s Services, The New England Home for Little Wanderers, Parents’ and Children’s Services, and Charles River Health Management. In The Home’s more than 200- Meet Chris November is National Adoption Month – the perfect time to introduce Chris, a pretty, vivacious thirteen-year-old girl with dark curly hair and a beautiful smile. Chris really wants a family of her own, especially a mom. She thinks she would do better with two parents – she’s open to two moms – so that she can “get support from one if the other is busy.” Chris is deaf and communicates through American Sign Language; it would be preferable for her to have parents who can communicate with her from the beginning. Chris has had a tough life with some very serious, heartbreaking losses. In the past, her behavior was sometimes oppositional, but she has worked hard to understand her anger and has learned to ask for help when she needs it. Chris needs a family with whom she can finish growing up, who will be there for her as she becomes an adult. Financial assistance is available to Chris’s adoptive family.
