Habitat
Seahorses live in all types of habitats like meadows
of sea grass, coral reefs, mangrove roots, and muddy
river mouths. Male Seahorses like to curl their tails
around sea grass and stay within a 1-square-yard area.
Their female partners stay in a 95-square-yard area

Class
A seahorse is a vertebrate because it
has a backbone. It is a vertebrate fish
because it has fins, they breathe under
water, and they are cold blooded.

Food Chain/Food
Seahorses mainly eat
brine shrimp. They can
eat up to 3000 shrimp a
day! Some predators of
Seahorses are crabs,
stingrays, tuna,
penguins, various other
types of fish, and the
biggest predators to
Seahorses are
Humans. A Seahorse
gets its energy from
shrimp.

Adaptations
One adaptation a seahorse has is mobile eyes
so it can look out for predators and prey
without moving its head. Another
adaptation a seahorse has is the ability to
change color so if predators and prey
come it can hide. Another adaptation a
seahorse has is its s-curved body because
it can let them reach further than straight
bodied ancestors. Some more adaptations
a seahorse has is its long, thin snouts
allowing them to reach into small places for
food. Seahorses are able to grow fleshy
appendages on their bodies that give them
a weed like appearance that helps them
with camoflauge. One more adaptation a
seahorse has is courtship. Before
seahorses can even begin breeding, they
must have a
like dance. This
courtship
courtship assists
in the ability to receive
the eggs from the female seahorse. The
female inserts a tube known as an
ovipositor, into the males pouch. The eggs
Seahorses courtship
will travel through the tube into the pouch.

Weather Changes
Seahorses are found to migrate in the winter to
Ireland as they cannot hibernate being an
underwater animal as per a discovery channel
report.

Human Impact
One of the biggest predators for a
seahorse is a human. Here are some
things that we do to harm Seahorses. The
traditional Chinese medicine trade uses up
to 150 million Seahorses a year from the
wild and these are used for all types of
medicine. The curie trade takes about one
million Seahorses from the wild. They are
taken from the sea and left to die in the
boiling sun and then sold as souvenirs. The
pet trade takes about one million
Seahorses from the wild and is thought that
less than 1,000 survive more than six
weeks.
Glossary
Adaptation-A part of the animal that helps an animal
survive.
Courtship- It's the step before mating, kind of like
dating.
Mobile eyes-It can look behind and in front of
its head like chameleons.
