In Term 1 it was all about settling in
and revising the things we learnt in
Prep. Our Integrated Topic was
“Looking After God’s Creation”. We
enjoyed visiting the Botanical Gardens and got the opportunity to eat
lots of fresh fruit and vegetables and
learn about different types of plants.
We even got our own plant to take
home. In English, the Grade 1s learnt
how to write recounts.

different things the Grade 1s have
learnt this year.
In
Term 3 we read lots of Fairy Tales and
learnt how to write our own. The Olympics were on so we found out about all
different types of sports and then we
studied the Human Body. The Year
11s organised some fun activities for a
special Nutrition Morning and the
Grade 1s learnt all about healthy eating. In Maths, the Grade 1s were
taught about sharing (division) and
groups of (multiplication) and started
to learn their times tables.

In Term 2 it was all about “How Toys
Work”. We had so much fun investigating toys that slide, toys that fly,
toys that bounce and toys that spin.
The Grade 1s had a great time testing out how different toys work.
Hands On Science came to our
school and we got to learn more
We have had a great start to Term 4.
Our Integrated Studies topic is
“Appreciating Different Cultures”. The
Grade 1s have been given their first
take home project where they have to
create a booklet or a slideshow about
a country. They are all very excited. In
English we are learning about Information Reports, so they are all going
to make their own animal books.
What a year! We welcomed new
friends: Jessica, Bella and Kaleb and
said goodbye to Isabella. The Grade
1s also took part in the Premier’s
Reading Challenge and they all completed the
challenge.
They were
also the
best at
putting the
right rubbish in the
recycling
and composting
bins and lots of people in our class
have had rubbish free lunches
throughout the year. We worked really
hard as a team to collect Woolworth
stickers and Coles Vouchers.
Other highlights have been using the
computers in English and Maths. We
have published our work using Microsoft Word and made cards using
Microsoft Publisher. We have played
educational games to help us with our
grammar and mental maths.
Teaching Grade 1 has had its challenges but it has been a privilege to
be alongside such special kids. Thank
you Grade 1!

Book of Poems - This year there will be a School book
of Poems so that students can be encouraged to use the creative
gifts that God has given them. A large handful of poems will be
selected for this book and will be kept for years to come. Students
can write anything they like as long as it’s a poem, it doesn’t have
to rhyme. Any poems need to be submitted in the ‘Book of Poems’
box in the foyer by Friday Oct. 26th.
Open Day: A big thank you to all the parents who helped with our recent Open Day.
The dads who cooked the BBQ, mums who set up tea and coffee for our visitors and those
who letterbox dropped the area with postcards are all appreciated. We had good weather for
the day and many new families came to look at our school as well as the existing families
who dropped in to see their child's classrooms. It was great to see you on the day, and thank
you for your help!
Statement from the Principal Mr Stephen Leslie
Northside Christian College expresses sorrow at the news that Acacia College will be closing. We can only imagine the chaos and stress that this news would be creating for the
Principal, staff, students and their families. We have contacted the Principal of Acacia and
offered help and support to the Acacia community. We are open to accept enrolment appli
cations from parents of Acacia recognising that the two schools are different in nature and
ethos. We do this in a spirit of support not wishing to benefit from their distress. We feel that
we can do this as there are many areas of similarity with Acacia eg. our Christian education
and e-learning programs.

HAVE YOU SEEN A THING MORE LOVELY THAN A TREE?
The year 3/ 4's have recently planted some trees along the fence at the rear
of the school. These trees were provided by the organisation "Fifteen Trees"
They gace us the trees to help us improve our environment. Mr Longley supervised the plating reminding the 3/ 4 V boys about leveling off the soil near
the trees, and showing the 3/ 4S girls how to place the mulch around the
trees. We hope the trees grow well and give us special places in the future
with shade and a pleasant place to be in the open fresh air.
