about the preserve permitted usage The Sonoma County Agricultural Preservation and Open Space District (District) and the City of Healdsburg invite you to explore the new Healdsburg Ridge Open Space Preserve. Since July 1996, the District has protected the prominent ridgeline east of Healdsburg through the purchase of three conservation easements. In 2003, the District had the opportunity to purchase the remaining fee title interest in two of those parcels to create the 155-acre Healdsburg Ridge Open Space Preserve. By partnering with the City of Healdsburg, the District now offers public access to a wildland area right outside the City of Healdsburg. Please enjoy this Open Space Preserve in a manner that ensures the protection of plants and animals that live here. The Preserve consists of a wide variety of natural communities including wetlands and oak woodlands, rocky serpentine chaparral and open grasslands. These communities support animals such as deer, jackrabbit, bobcat, coyote, mountain lion, and more than 40 species of birds. Visitors are invited to explore the current trail network and check out the spectacular vistas throughout the property. Trails are easy to moderate hiking (2-3 miles) taking in views of Fitch Mountain, the Russian River, and the Mayacamas Mountains. The intent of the Healdsburg Ridge Open Space Preserve is to protect and enhance its natural and visual resources and to provide “passive” recreational activities for public use. The City of Healdsburg’s Community Services Department is working with LandPaths, a local non-profit organization, to provide maintenance and management, educational outings, and to help organize volunteers to monitor the property and keep the trails and trailhead clean.
