February 2016
Dear Parents,
Visit to Bloodhound Workshop at Stafford College, Wednesday 2 nd March 2016
We have been offered an exciting, late opportunity for our Year 10 students to see the Bloodhound
Record Breaking Car and take part in workshops based around this amazing example of British
engineering.
The BLOODHOUND SSC is a supersonic car that is designed not only to go faster than the
speed of sound (supersonic) but to over 1,000mph (1,600km/h). It will cover a mile in just 3.6
seconds.
The Car is powered by both a jet engine and a rocket, which together will produce more than
135,000 horsepower: that’s more than six times the power of all the Formula 1 cars on a
starting grid put together.
The aim of the day is to reinforce ideas within the physics curriculum and to learn about the principles
of design and manufacture in advanced engineering.
It is proposed that the students depart St Dominic’s between 8.45 am and 9.00 am on Wednesday
morning and travel by school minibus to Stafford. The workshops are between 10.00 and 12.00 and
we should be back in school in time for lunch. Students should take drinks and can take snacks.
There is no charge for this trip. Students should wear full school uniform
Please could you email your consent to the school office as soon as possible.
Many apologies for the very short notice for this event.
Yours sincerely
A Bruno
Science Department
