Winter Marches On In Colorado Ski Country USA
Spring Snow Storm Brings Fresh Powder to Every Resort in Past 48 Hours
Denver, Colo. – March 28, 2011 – Spring snow showers have laid a wealth of fresh powder across Colorado in
the past 48 hours, giving skiers and riders incredible choices with which to revel in the last weekend of
Colorado’s snowiest month.
The copious amount of new snow, coupled with creative deals for spring, give skiers and riders a good excuse
to get to the mountains. This weekend’s snowfall only emphasizes that ski season is still going strong in
Colorado, while spring packages and events have been arranged to celebrate the end to some resorts’
seasons.
Crested Butte led the way for the weekend of snow, reporting an inch shy of a foot-and-a-half for the most
recent 48 hour period. Monarch Mountain received a fulsome 11.5 inches, while further south, Wolf Creek
measured 10 inches.
Other resorts in the region were also given steady snowfall with Purgatory at Durango Mountain Resort
receiving 8 inches and Silverton rivaling Wolf Creek with 10 of its own. Telluride rounded out Colorado’s
southwest with a half foot of fresh powder from the weekend.
Moving north, Sunlight Mountain was given 14 inches, while the neighboring Aspen/Snowmass resorts ranged
from a half foot to 9 inches. The weekend snow storm was kind to Steamboat, dropping a half-foot yesterday
alone, and helping the resort reach a benchmark 400 inch season. The resort is also reporting that another
half-foot to a foot of fresh snow is expected tonight. Howelsen was sadly the first CSCUSA resort to close for
the season yesterday, but bowed out with 4 inches over the past 48 hours. In the heart of the Western Slope,
Powderhorn finished with a 5 inch weekend.
Closer to the Front Range, Loveland saw 14 inches fall over the weekend, and nearby Arapahoe Basin
received 11.5 inches. The storm bequeathed Ski Cooper 8 inches, while Copper Mountain was given a full foot
of fresh. Winter Park matched Ski Cooper’s 8 inches and neighboring SolVista Basin at Granby Ranch
received 4 inches. The closest resort to Denver, Echo Mountain, was given 8 inches, and Boulder’s nearest
resort, Eldora Mountain, saw 4 fresh inches fall.
As March winds down and makes way for April, some CSCUSA resorts begin to close for the season this
coming weekend. Weather experts are forecasting more snow for Colorado Ski Country this week setting up
powder conditions for those resorts closing festivities. More information about CSCUSA closing weekends, as
