Proverbs 3:5-6 Obedience to God’s Nudges Always brings HIS Blessings!! Early in January I received a “gentle A Gentle Nudge Coleen McNeill, Beth Isreal Ministries nudge” from the Lord that I was going to Washington DC January 14 to the 20th-nothing about that seem possible or could I understand it in any way-but I knew I would hold it in my heart, and continued to pay attention. So don’t. wait until you have it all figured out and everything makes complete sense to you. Sometimes God will lead you to do things that you don’t fully understand until after you have taken a step to do them. He does not usually reveal all the details of HIS plan when HE first speaks to you. Instead HE tells you enough so you can do what HE FREE has said but HE will withhold enough information so that you must continue to rely on HIM. Two weeks later in a random telephone conversation with a.representative with National Day of Prayer ) she mentioned that she and an another representative of National Day of Prayer would be going to Washington DC , (January 14 through the 20th. ) for the inauguration. I would rather ask that question, and listen to your answer, than have to ramble on about mine. I know that we all work through every day, looking for joy and satisfaction. And more often than not, for some reason, we don’t find it. There’s always something, it seems, that knocks us off our peace. Or, TRIES to knock us off. I believe we all need to work. We need to do something. And what we do is key. Do we do work that produces good fruit, or, bad? The Bible tells us that a bad tree can’t produce good fruit, and a good tree can’t produce bad. Our work, our activities are the same. Do we spend Listen Live: Windsofpraise.com Radio Update our time fretting and worrying? Or do we spend our time arm in arm with the Lord, trusting Him as He leads and directs. Do we get shot at for a brief moment, and then let that moment override us with fear and anxiety for days. Or do we relish the majority of the moments where we do find peace and joy. One of the playful activities I have found in these past few years has been my participation on a bowling team with the guys I work with. It gives me a nice, fun break, once a week. On one night, I was bowling very well, and enjoying it. And on the very last frame, I wanted so badly to finish with a strike. You know what I did? I threw a gutter ball. Just one. But that one throw did indeed ruin my joy. And that’s a shame. I need to forget that one shot, and remember the rest, the best. And that’s kind of like life. Don’t let one negative thing ruin the positive. And how is that possible? By fully giving yourself to the Lord Jesus Christ. It really is the good news that we all need to PO BOx 491 NewPOrt, Or 97365 learn. Give yourself up. Receive fully the life that Jesus gives. He is holy, so in Him, you are holy. (I know I could use the word “anniversary” but “birthday” sounds more festive to me). And this ministry was birthed by God; He has done miracleous things---the Author of all!). Another point: when someone mistakenly says that Scott and I own Winds of Praise, we need to correct them. We are the co-founders, but it is a non-profit ministry, that couldn’t hold up without the many hands of volunteers; donations; and underwriting dollars. Our ministry is inter-denominational. 20 years ago...let’s see....I was a busy homeschooling mom; daughters were 11 and 7 yrs. old. Scott had made a drastic career change for the benefit of being home more with those girls; that’s just the kind of dad he is. Money was extremely tight for our little family, but God was always with us at every step, just as He was for the birthing of Winds of Praise, which took time. (See “Our Story” at windsofpraise.com). A donated space next to the former A llen P Almer By Allen Palmer, Pastor for the Native American inmates, Lincoln County Jail. If we have a conscience; and there are those unfortunate few who do not; there is an inner voice that speaks to us whenever we are in a position to do right or wrong. That voice doesn’t yell, it simply says “Be careful, watch out”. We can choose to listen, or we can ignore it and go ahead and do what is wrong in our own hearts and minds. We have missed the mark when Page 2 we choose wrong, and that is what the Bible calls sin. We know better, we heard our conscience, but we still proceed. This is the human condition, or as the Good Book reveals, ‘flesh’. “Whoever walks in integrity walks securely, but he who makes his ways crooked will be found out.” Proverbs 10:9. Truth has a way of coming out sooner or later, and when we are ‘found out’ the embarrassment and self-condemnation is often severe. When we know what is wrong, like lying or cheating or using someone else for our own gain, act like we are better than someone else, gossip and condemn others, and knowing it is wrong yet do it anyway…we begin to separate ourselves from listening to God. We rationalize and justify our position, we throw guilt and blame toward others, we are crooked in our ways and rarely is there a good ending to this path. The Bible tells us that the ‘wages of sin are death’, and it is meant spiritually, but sometimes physically as well. “The righteous who walk in his integrity— blessed are his location of Rip Tide Shoe Repair in downtown Newport, with a thick fabric wall covering donated and installed by friends, became the first studio. You could only get the station on “cable” in those days. Fundraisers included coffee houses; dinners; luaus; booths at the county fair; and a golf tournament. Dear Rusty Nails the clown from Portland came and rode on Winds of Praise’s trophy-winning float in the Loyalty Days parade, designed by a creative friend. “Working vacations” at CreationfestNW were the personal highlights of my summers; interviewing bands and running through the photo pit, snapping pictures during performances. New friends were made during that time, and we station volunteers often went in some sort of traveling group and camped out. I want to start belting out, “Those INTEGRITY children after him!” Proverbs 20:7. If we are parents, our words and our ways are being studied, accepted, and adopted by our children. If we are bad tempered, lazy, selfish, selfcentered, and a host of other things we know as ‘wrong’ we are actually teaching our children to become the same. That old adage “Do as I say not as I do” just isn’t going to ‘cut it’ with our kids. If you do it, that is permission for them to do the same. Parents are charged with bringing their children up ‘right’ so it seems pretty important that one listens to that voice from within saying “Be careful, watch out”. “To do righteousness and justice is more acceptable to the Lord than sacrifice.” Proverbs 21:3 That’s right friends. We can go to church every Sunday, volunteer for many charitable causes, tithe generously, and rise in the ranks of the elders, but if we are involved in wrong doing when we are alone, we are putting a wedge between us and that voice that keeps us on the right track if we are listening. If we are simply ‘noticing’ were the days, my friends!”, ha. Bigger events like the Todd Agnew concert tour 10 years ago; the Sons of Day concert; “The Exchange” band and two of the American Idol finalists for our “Sweet 16” birthday event happened in a blur of activity. What a time of learning how to work together and do stuff like that. Local youth created the Friday Night Inferno show, which ran for several years. (Any youth and/ or youth leaders out there that want to fill a big slot at the station?--the time and space is now open!). And of great importance is the “mixing up” of the local Christian churches and those who give of their time and resources to fulfill the main vision of Winds of Praise: to encourage the local Body of believers to worship the Lord Jesus Christ. our behavior and choosing the right way to go instead of the wrong way, we are moving closer to integrity in our own lives, and we are demonstrating it to others so they may be encouraged to see someone walk the walk, not just talk the talk. Jesus knows all about how we really are, from the inside out. He is all about excellent relationships instead of strife and bitterness and condemnation. The best relationships on earth are those with “no lies between them”. It is the sneaky, private and secret wrongs that rise up and bite us like poisonous snakes. It is resentments that kill us faster than any physical ailment we might experience. Wrong weighs heavy on our hearts and our shoulders, it is the opening the enemy needs to keep us on the merry-goround of self-condemnation. We bathe in ‘woulda, coulda, shoulda’ all for no good end. Jesus died to free us from all that, as He rose from the grave, He embedded His spirit within our hearts and minds that we could know right from wrong. It’s there for us to use and to warn us when we are heading continued on page 5 in the wrong direction. Not that we can be righteous on our own, but through increased listening to that voice within and then mitigating our wrong with sincere sadness about our misbehaving acts, then asking Jesus to help us in correcting the harm we have caused we grow into ‘integrity’ through Him. On our own, we can’t get it done for once and for all. Once we are used to listening to our gift of the spirit, we develop the best friendship of all; the friendship between our hearts and the heart of God. Start today to listen to that inner voice, as it will lead to a life without strife. It will lead to a happy family, and thriving children, and real friends. Begin with the Golden Rule in your thinking, and God will add everything you seek to know. And as you wish that others would do to you, do so to them.” Luke 6:31 Learn to live life on the Good Lord’s terms, and doing ‘right’ becomes a much easier way to not only live life, but to live it abundantly! She had lived a hard life - it was hard on her and she was hard on life. Numerous lovers, children, cases of abuse, disease, and finally AIDS released her from this world. Although as a child she had accepted the Lord into her heart, she had never lived in the full, rich understanding the exchanged, salvaged life of Christ offers. But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name, John 1:12 Dan Lundy, Messenger Ministries In looking at the drug scene that seems to permeate our society today, I can see many factors that contribute to it. I have studied socio-economic factors way back in university days. As a pastor and Everything I had ever believed about God was put to the test the day we scattered my sister’s ashes. I had to affirm that my sister’s remains are only chemicals of her flesh; that her spirit resides with the loving, forgiving, grace-dispensing God whom she received as a child. I believe her youthful acceptance of the Lord was honored by God, and that I’ll see her again in heaven. That was a “day of visitation” for me when believing in Jesus was sealed forever. When Mary was visited by an angel who told her she would bear the Savior of the world, the Bible says she was troubled. I’m sure that was an understatement. Everything Mary had ever learned of the Lord was called upon during that encounter. I can imagine Mary’s questions: Can this be true? Was that a vision? Isn’t the story of a savior for old women and children? Superstition? Or absolute truth! Mary finally spoke those wonderfully, submissive, believing words: “Be it done to me according to Thy word.” I believe that some day during our lives, there’s a time when the Lord says, “Today! Today is the day when you get serious about Who I am and how much you need Me as your new life.” I believe everyone has this “day of visitation.” I had my first “day of visitation” when I was a mother of three young children. After cleaning up the dishes one Saturday morning, I was ready to call them away from cartoons to read to them, as I did every year, the Easter story of Christ’s death and resurrection. No lights, no visions, no voices, but a profound awareness surrounded me with solid assurance that this was Truth. It sent me reeling against the refrigerator realizing I needed some changes in my life. If this was truth, I’d better teach it convincingly to my kids. If not truth, I’d better not fill their minds with a false story. I found, while sweating it out on my face before the Lord during the next few years, that He is indeed, the Way, the Truth and the Life. Everything within me believes in His life, death, and resurrection as written in the Bible. What a glorious day to celebrate and add to your testimony – your “Day of Visitation!” THERE IS HOPE evangelist I have read and studied the pain centers that cause many to self medicate with drugs and alcohol. Other addictions play into this as well: gambling, pornography, even violence. In my own life, addictions played a major role in my youth and young adulthood. I was messed up. My friends were messed up. Pretty much my whole family was messed up. It was what we did. It was who we were. We had no direction, no vision for the future, no hope. We were users. Hope. This is a giant four letter word. If you look into the eyes of a drug addict, an alcoholic, a heavily addicted gambler, a user, you will see HOPELESSNESS. Hope is essential to vision. Vision is essential to health at all levels. A cancer patient with great hope can fight the good fight and win. The same patient with no hope will die almost before your eyes. The same goes for the addict. Why change when the medication is keeping us in the dark? Pain free. Oblivious. I had no hope until I CHOSE to trust Jesus. I prayed a simple prayer and CHOSE to follow the ways of this carpenter from Nazareth. I CHOSE to believe what the ancient scriptures said about this man. I CHOSE to believe the words spoken by this Jesus. His tribal name was/is Jeshua. I CHOSE to study Him. I CHOSE to join with other believers and serve Him. I CHOSE to tell others about my savior. When given this hope, I came to realize there are three principles of life: Faith, hope and love. The greatest of these is love. For me, hope came first, then faith, then love. This was the progression of my walk into the relationship I have with the carpenter from Nazareth. That was 36 years ago. I have been walking with Him ever since. He CHOSE to forget my old life and wicked ways. He CHOSE to give me a clean slate, a new start. He CHOSE to give me vision for the future. He CHOSE to free me from drugs and any other addictions that would try to ensnare me. My hope is in Him; all of it. There is no other way for me to go. I hope all things through the Creator. His name is Jeshua. Jesus. Join with me and many others in this HOPE. Trust Him. Call me and we can talk about Him. 541-444-7875. Day or night. Page 3 Reflections by Amy S.U.R.F.’s UP! (Serving Up Righteous Faith) Carol Walsh of Go B.I.G. (Believing in God) Ministries shown here with faithful mascot “Refuge” By Carol Walsh What’s happening in and around Newport reaching out to teens. “And you shall teach them to your sons, talking to them when you sit in your house and when you walk along the road and when you lie down and when you rise up.” Deuteronomy 11:9 It seems many Christian adults have given up on this next generation. With the addition of “smart” phones into our lives, conversations that build relationships and transfer wisdom seldom happen. Unlike past generations, adults and children fail to interact with one another as life happens. This makes conversations limited, hurried, and often superficial. Parents no longer offer the primary source of teaching how to live a godly life. Instead, children seek advice from friends, TV, the internet, and a culture eager to point them in the “way they should go.” Before we can teach others we must know the truth ourselves. I would like to encourage adults to BE adults. Make the study of God’s Word a priority in your life, choose to live a life wor- thy of emulating, and take our God-given responsibility of teaching the next generation seriously. Invest in their lives. Spend time with them. Build relationships and set boundaries. Rules without relationship breeds rebellion. Relationships without rules breeds indulgence and an attitude of “entitlement.” Both rebellion and indulgence lead to the same endeternal separation from God. Adults need to teach the next generation to LOVE God with all their hearts, soul, and mind, as well as loving others (more than) as themselves (Matthew 22:37-39) then they will have successfully done the job God has entrusted to them. Carol and Rob Walsh continue to offer a safe, nopressure environment for all teens (13-19) to hang out with friends and caring adults The Glory Belongs to the Lord every other Saturday through their HangTime events. This month: May 6th and 20th at the House of Refuge, 310A NW Gilbert Way, Newport, from 7:30pm-midnight (Bible Study offered at 6:30-7:00). Youth enjoy free food, movies, games, and hot tub. Remember this is OUTREACH…so teens who know God should be inviting students who don’t yet have a relationship with Jesus Christ to come with them. If you know of anything happening in and around Newport reaching out to teens or would like to learn more about any of these events and how you can get involved drawing teens into a closer relationship with Jesus Christ please feel free to contact Carol Walsh for more info: call 541-264-8393, text 612889-4149, or email [email protected]. How can we find peace after a storm? Can we ever drop too far from God’s grace? All victory is found in God. I believe a biblical account of great victory after sin is seen in Eve’s life. Yes, it’s true, the serpent deceived Eve and she rebelled by consuming forbidden fruit. Great pain followed, which included bitter sorrow. Her firstborn son, Cain, grew up and killed Abel! Later in life, she gave birth to a son named Seth. Although her past sin resulted in great shame and being cast from the Garden of Eden, we see evidence of her faith as she proclaimed that a new son was given to her by the Lord. “For God has appointed another seed for me instead of Abel, whom Cain killed.” Genesis 4:25b Years past, and Seth had a son named Enosh. He was naturally Eve’s grandson. “And as for Seth, to him also a son was born; and he named him Enoch. Then men began to call on the name of the Lord.” Genesis 4:26 We have no record of whether Eve was alive to witness people turning to God. We as Christians offer our prayers to God by faith, and whether or not we are privileged see Godly fruit, we must believe God hears us. He moves on our behalf. This reminds me of a New Testament scripture: “Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.” James 5:16 Dear Saint, no matter what our life story contains, remember, no situation is too hard for God. “Ah, Lord God! Behold, You have made the heavens and the earth by Your great power and outstretched arm. There is nothing too hard for You. (Jeremiah 32:17), and “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, even though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; though its waters roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with its swelling. there is a river whose streams shall make glad the city of God, the holy place of the tabernacle of the Most High. God is in the midst of her, she shall not be moved; God shall help her, just at the break of dawn.” Psalm 46:1-5 Hallelujah! Let us continue onward; from this day forward, “Pressing onward to the upward calling that is in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 3:14), for, “Greater is he that is in you than he than he that is in the world.” (1 John 4:4). — Inferno Out — The Vinyl Frontier. The Vinyl Countdown. Vinyla Ice Cream. It’s Vinylly time for Spring. I love spring, especially since it means graduating from college. It’s hard to believe that I have been writing this column every month throughout my whole college career. Over these past 4 years I have learned Page 4 a lot about myself, Public Relations, and my love for music. I contemplated writing this column about The Classic Crime’s amazing new album “How to be Human”, but since I got a new record player for my birthday recently I thought it would be fun to write about vinyl. It also gives me a chance to reflect on what I love about music and how it has affected me these last four years. It’s always interesting as a younger guy to talk to people about vinyl, because most adults have already experienced its coming and going, and don’t get as excited as I might. This isn’t to say that they don’t like this “Vinyl Revival”, but must have experienced the hype already when they were my age. For the past four years’ vinyl has quickly became a sensation in the music industry. Every teenager is getting portable Crosley record players for Christmas and almost every artist releases vinyl packages of their new albums. Why did it become such a sensation so fast? I don’t claim to know the answers, but as a young person in the midst of the industry I know why I love vinyl so much. To me, vinyl is an experience. The fact that you have to store your records in a specific way to keep them from warping and flip them over after 3-4 songs is just part of the experience. It keeps me more involved in the music, instead of just putting it on in the background. While you can skip songs, it is much more difficult, forcing you to listen to songs you may not have liked at first. Listening to classic records that I may not have listened to before has given me a great appreciation for music I had never even thought about. Vinyl’s also comes in different colors. While this sounds like a gimmick, it actually adds a whole dimension to those who collect vinyl. For example, I have a vinyl version of “MMHMM” by Relient K that is a clear light blue color. It’s really cool to be able to show all of the colors of vinyl that you have to your friends and family. Additionally, there are also picture disks, which are full on pictures on top of a vinyl record. Sometimes they play songs, but they are also just art pieces. These things are important to look at when thinking about this vinyl resurgence. The industry’s ability to adapt to what people like and increase their musical tastes through more inventive ways is something that is worth admiring. I hope that those of you who listened to vinyl when you were younger jump back into it, as I don’t see it going away anytime soon. In fact, they are finding new ways everyday to make vinyl cooler and cooler. Thank you for your readership over the past 4 years. — Inferno Out Page 9 Poolside Jan’s HOT TUBS 3!,%3[3500,)%3[3%26)#% Insured & Licensed CCB# 135851 Janet Davenport [email protected] 152 NE 6th St. Newport 541-265-4649 1530 SW Hwy 101, Lincoln City 541-996-1030 744 SW Elizabeth St. 835 SW 11th Avenue, Newport, OR 97365 s&!8 541-574-0310 OUR MISSION: To enhance the life of every person we serve. I ask you in my heart, Take all my fear away, From You I shall not part. ~ Amy Schones Amy Schones has a heart for Jesus, and her spiritual passion is for the church’s spiritual health. She’s a fisherman’s wife, mother of four, mom-in-law, and a prayer warrior for her fifteen grandchildren. By Amy Schones My Plea How vast the chasm was, When once the fruit consumed, How far the drop from grace, The precipice of doom! O mighty Savior come, How can a young man keep his way pure? — Inferno Out Page 9 Underwriter of the THE DAY OF VISITATION Month Dee Ann Bogue, author of “Tansy and the 2,000 Earthquakes” Support Winds of Praise with these Sweet Deals POST “Make your mother proud... by supporting the Winds of Praise!’ N IO LIG RE N IO LIG RE Dan LunDy is distributed all over Lincoln County! Page 3 K elli A lbright What’s Next? Luke 4:8: Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God and serve Him only.’” Come October, Winds of Praise will be marking its 20th birthday.
