Heads Up
February 2016
News from Yorkshire & the Humber
Leadership Academy
Welcome to the February edition of Heads Up, our monthly round up of regional leadership development activity.
The weeks are flying by with an array of successful events achieved in the closing months of this financial year, and plans for
the next now well underway.
The Systems Leadership Labs have seen a good deal of success, with a number of staff having attended both the Leeds and
Sheffield sessions with excellent feedback: please view Slide 3 to see a vlog created by one of the delegates. The final
workshop will take place on Friday 18 March in Hull and has been our most popular session so far, so if you would like to
attend, please contact [email protected] to book a place as soon as possible in order to avoid disappointment.
We are pleased to announce that following a significant price reduction and content refresh, applications are now open for the
Mary Seacole Programme, joining the other three National Programmes which are currently open; please see page 4 for links
and further details.
Closing dates are around mid-March and I would like to draw your attention in particular to the Edward Jenner Advanced
Programme, which begins soon in April.
In addition to this, we are delighted that 31 organisations have now submitted an expression of interest to host an NHS GMTS
trainee, with a total of 165 individual placements.
We are looking forward to the i-Lead Network Meeting on the 3 March in Leeds, led by Beverley Powell MSc., Equality and
Diversity Manager at Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. There is still time to register – please contact
[email protected] if you would like to attend. If you have already registered, we are looking forward to seeing you
there.
Our latest blogs have seen considerable interest – please read on for links to each of these. We are really interested in what you
would like to hear more about, so if you have any suggestions or feedback please contact [email protected], or feel
free to leave a comment at the bottom of a blog on our website. You can also access them through LinkedIn here.
As ever if you would like to get in touch about any of our events or projects please don’t hesitate to contact us through the
various channels above.

Systems Leadership Learning Labs
We’ve been running successful Systems Leadership Labs in Leeds and York so far this year.
Our final workshop will take place on Friday 18 March in Hull, at the Mercure Hull Royal Hotel.
This interactive workshop will help participants understand and effectively navigate the challenges and
dynamics faced when working in complex systems.
It's for anyone currently facing the challenges of partnership working and integration, and NHS staff who want to
gain a better understanding of the culture in their organisation.
Find out more and watch a short video by attendee Lucy Scarisbrick below.
This workshop will be particularly beneficial if you are currently working with partners across your system. We
would therefore encourage you to bring colleagues with you to the workshop so that you can learn together in this
dynamic environment.
To book your place, please contact Rebecca Bevington or call 07780 587183.
