Easter Day
April 20, 2014 | 10:00am
St. Paul’s Chapel
A Chapel of Trinity Church
Trinity Wall Street
an Episcopal Parish in the City of New York
Welcome to St. Paul’s Chapel.
Please add your voice and heart to the worship: sing the hymns and pray the prayers.
Everyone is welcome at Jesus’ Table, and everyone’s voice is needed to tell the Good
News of God’s love in Christ. Please help others find a place near you, and greet the
person next to you as we prepare to worship together.
We Gather in the Lord’s Name
The Presider welcomes the People.
The Musician rehearses the music for the day.
Song of Praise
Words: Latin, 14th cent.; tr. Lyra Davidica, 1708, alt. St. 4, Charles Wesley (1707-1788)

Opening Acclamation and Baptismal Asperges
‘Alleluia’ means ‘Praise God!’ We don’t say this word during the more solemn Lent (the six weeks before
Easter) and so we use it a lot during our Easter services.
The Celebrant sprinkles the People with Baptismal Water.
Celebrant
People
Alleluia. Christ is risen.
The Lord is risen indeed. Alleluia.
The Celebrant prays a prayer based on the theme of the day.
We Proclaim and Respond to the Word of God
Each week, we read a story about Jesus, taken from the Gospels, which is the part of the Bible that tells the
story of Jesus’ life and teachings.

Sermon
The Rev. Emily Wachner
We Pray for the World and the Church
We pray for ourselves, for the ones we love, and especially for those who hurt us. We give thanks, and we ask
for the things we need and for the needs of others.
After each prayer
Leader
We are Easter people, and so we say,
People
Alleluia!
All conclude the prayer by saying together:
The Lord’s Prayer
This is the prayer that Jesus taught his disciples when they asked him how to pray.
Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your Name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins
as we forgive those
who sin against us.
Save us from the time of trial,
and deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power,
and the glory are yours,
now and for ever. Amen.
Sharing the Peace
Now that we have heard the teachings of Jesus, and have prayed for one another, and before we share
Communion, we express our love towards one another by sharing a sign of Christ’s peace.
Celebrant
The peace of the Lord be with you.
People
And also with you.
The People share a sign of Peace with each other.

We Prepare the Table and Make Eucharist
Eucharist means ‘thanksgiving’ and is another word for Communion. In Eucharist, we remember the Last
Supper as we give thanks for the great gift of Christ’s love for us. We recognize our oneness with Christ and
with our neighbors by sharing the bread and wine, which are Christ’s body and blood. All people are welcome
to participate in Eucharist.
