now, it will be something you
carry with you, as you get
older. Plus, when you save
regularly, even if it’s little

Don’t let this happen to you! If you have a plan
every time you receive money, think of how excited
you’ll be when you see your savings account growing. Try this…
1
When you have money, put all of it in your Penny Savers Club
account.
2
Give yourself time to think about how much you want to leave
in your account and how much you’d like to spend. If you have
something in mind that you want to buy, decide if you really
want it, or whether it can wait.
3
If you are going to buy something right away, do some research
first. Have your parents help you shop around for sales or check
prices on the Internet.
4
If what you want to buy is too expensive, wait until you save
more by setting a goal…always keeping in mind that you’ll leave
some of that money in your account.

SAVING
TODAY
Remember…when it’s your birthday
week, you can come to the credit union
for a “Fist Full of Coin.” Whatever you
can grab from the coin jar, we’ll match
that amount as a deposit into your
account. Penny Savers members, who
are too young to grab the coin when
they come to the credit union office,
will receive a $5 deposit during their
birthday week. Just give us a call.
Easter Basket
Materials:
• Capri Sun box – or similar size box
• Green and pink felt
• Craft glue
• Stapler, scissors & box cutter
• Ribbon
• Needle & thread
• Button
1 Measure about 1 ¾” from the bottom of the box and cut it with
the box cutter (have a parent help with this part).
2 Cut 2 pieces of green felt the size of the bottom of the box and
glue one inside and one outside on the bottom.
Animal
FunFacts
• Frogs drink through their skin.
• Crocodiles often eat rocks.
• Pigs can get sunburned. That’s
why they roll in mud.
• A tiger’s skin is striped like
its fur.
• Only male toads croak.
• Owls can’t move their eyeballs.
3 Cut two strips of pink felt to make the handles, and glue the
two strips together.
4 Cut green felt to cover the outside of the box. You’ll need 8
pieces the exact width of the sides, and twice as high.
5 Use scissors to cut the blades of grass (see picture) by cutting out
triangles. Be careful to not go farther than half way down the
height of the felt.
6 After the green felt pieces are cut, staple each end of the handle to
the basket using a couple of staples on each side to make it
stronger.
7 Glue your green felt with the blades of
grass pointing up to the inside and
outside of the box (like you’re making
a sandwich with the box in the
middle).
8 Finally, make a flower with a ribbon,
or create one with felt to attach to the
front of your basket.

How Can You Earn Money?
As an important part of your family, it’s your responsibility to help
around the house and to not expect to get paid. But perhaps there
are extra chores that you could do for your family or neighbors
where you could earn money. Some ideas are:
• Weed the garden in the spring and summer
• Rake leaves in the fall
• Shovel snow in the winter
• Mom’s helper or babysit
• Vacuum and dust
