-Booker T. Washington-was an American educator, author, orator, and advisor to
presidents of the United States. Between 1890 and 1915, Washington was the
dominant leader in the African-American community.
-W.E.B. DuBois- he was the first African
American to earn a doctorate, he became a
professor of history, sociology and economics
at Atlanta University. Du Bois was one of the
co-founders of the National Association for the
Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) in
1909.
- NAACP- The National Association for the
Advancement of Colored People is a civil
rights organization in the United States,
formed as a bi-racial organization to advance
justice for African Americans. Its mission in the 21st century is "to ensure the political,
educational, social, and economic equality of rights of all persons and to eliminate racial
hatred and racial discrimination."
