As a reminder, we will begin PARCC testing in grades 3rd-6th beginning next week, April 10th. Please help your child by ensuring he/she gets plenty of rest and has a good breakfast. You may send snacks for your child as well. Things to know: if your child has a smartwatch or a cell phone they will not be permitted in the testing session. All smartwatches and cell phones must be turned in prior to the test beginning or left at home. Week of April 17-21, we will be finishing up our unit on Volume and Surface Area. We will have our end of the chapter test on Tuesday April 18th. We will then begin our unit on probability and statistics. We will have two chapters on probability which will take us to the middle of May. This will mark the completion of the 6th grade curriculum. However, I plan on beginning Algebra 1 with my students to finish out the last three weeks of 6th grade math. Important Information: Spring MAPS will take place near the end of May. This is your child’s final opportunity this school year to place in a higher math class in 7th grade. I am still receiving many parent emails about middle school math recommendations. This year I do not have a say in where your child is placed in 7th grade math. Only winter and spring MAPS scores will determine this placement for 7th grade Math. Placement Info: Math 7: MAPS score of 237 or lower. Algebra 1A: MAPS score of 238-254 only. Algebra 7: MAPS score of 255 or higher only. Whichever score is higher (winter or spring) will be the one the middle school uses for your child’s 7th grade Math Placement. Science & Social Studies April 10 - 13 PARCC Get plenty of sleep, eat a good breakfast, and relax. April 17- April 21 Properties of Matter Students will read and experiment to learn more about the characteristics and properties of matter. We will continue to explore density, boiling point, solubility, and chemical reactivity with various substances. We will be using burners, so please talk with your child about their commitment to safety in the science classroom.
