are very proud of the children and all their amazing story telling abilities. Each week new materials are being added
to your child’s morning experience. From “moon sand” to marble ramps, we have been working to provide fun, new
environment changes for the summer months. The children are excited each week to see what new materials have
been added to explore.
We began June with our camping week. The children loved making camp fire stories and having Ms. Lauren read
them in her silly voices. We also played a fun campfire counting game with Popsicle sticks. The following week was
Dad’s and Dinosaurs. The children taught us so much about dinosaurs as we became paleontologists digging for
bones in our sensory table. We also created our own Dino dads and talked about what our dad’s would do if they
were dinosaurs. Our following week was a week of silly clowns and acrobats as we had our circus week. The children
practice walking their own version of a tight rope and having a circus parade with their own stuffed circus animals.
For our final week before our summer break the children had their own taste of Chicago with a “Taste of Kids’ Work”.
We made some of Chicago’s most well know food which included cheese cake, pizza, popcorn, and hot dogs. We
talked about the importance of food safety and washing our hands during food prepping. We also took turns each
day talking about our favorite places to eat. This was a fun way to finish the month of June and enjoy some food
painting as well as food eating.
As a reminder we would like for parents to read some of our new stories the children have been working on with our
story dice. We have placed a green bucket next to the sign in sheet for parents to look through what we have
created so far. Enjoy!
Next Month:
As we enter July we will enjoy a music appreciation week. We will learn about different types of music, instruments,
and the music that can be found all around us. The children always enjoy Miss Elisa’s music class and are excited to
spend an entire week learning and exploring. The following week will be “Fun with Math” We will incorporate math
and numbers into many of our activities throughout the week including a math problem scavenger hunt throughout
KWC. We will also provide a math problem for your child to solve each day as they enter the room at the sign in
sheets. The children will need some of their math experience for our week of “Mad Science” as we experiment and
explore through trial and error. We will also learn about the importance of never giving up as we create our own
inventions and discuss the important of learning from mistakes. The children with spend July with many hands on
experiences and use problem solving to make predictions.
BRIDGING HOME & SCHOOL
The Pre-K teachers are so excited for summer to be here and we cannot wait to bring our fun themes to your children.
We will be focusing on summer safety throughout the month of July. Whether we are playing in the sprinklers outside or
making trips to the park; we want to continue to remind the children how safety comes first so we can have fun
throughout the summer. Keeping children aware of the rules when crossing the street, riding a bike, or even when they
are swimming will help make your child aware and responsible for their own safety. Of course learning by example is the
best way to reinforce any learning with your child. Before an outing with your child ask them to tell you what they need
to do to ensure a safe trip.

FROM THE
ADMINISTRATION
Summer swim gear: please remember to bring bathing suits, closed-toe water shoes, and a small towel for outdoor water
play every day. When swim gear has been used, it will be hung in a plastic bag on your child’s cubby hook. It is imperative
that wet items be brought home every evening and dry swim gear comes back the next day. If your child does not have
swim gear, he/she will not be able to participate in water play.
A note about parking: please remember to be respectful of your fellow parents as well as our neighbors when parking. We
understand that our parking lot is small, but whenever possible, please leave the handicap spots free and try to only take
up on space at a time. Also, please note that parent vehicles should not be left here throughout the day or overnight
without the permission of the administration.
Please remember that loose sandals and crocs are not safe or appropriate choices for indoor OR outdoor footwear here at
Kids’ Work. The children are running, playing, and having fun here, and the safest footwear for them to wear are tennis
shoes or supportive, closed-toe sandals with sturdy straps. Safe footwear will greatly reduce the risk of scraped knees!
RECOGNIZING EXCELLENCE
We must take this opportunity to recognize the Damen Avenue teachers for their dedication to their
students and their ability to work together as a cohesive team. As a team, Lydia, Patti, Sheridan, and
Melissa are able to provide their children with dynamic and engaging lesson plans, exciting movement
activities in the gross motor room and on the playground, and nurturing moments for growth and
development. This team of ladies sets such a great example for their fellow teachers to learn from and
follow. We are so grateful for their dedication, team work, and the love they have for each of their
students. Great work ladies!
