Book Report on White Fang

The author of the book White Fang is Jack London from America. He grew up in
a poor family, and when he was not helping on the family farm, he taught himself at
the local library. When he went to secondary school, he started to write short stories,
and finally became a writer. The Call of the Wild is one of his best known works. This
novel was published in 1906 in America. White Fang is a book about animal and
human being, which introduced the relationship between people and animals. The title
White Fang is the main character's name. He's half-dog and half-wolf, and the only
survivor in his litter.
White Fang is half-dog and half-wolf, his destiny is absolutely untoward. The
story started in the frozen areas on the northwest border of Canada. The story narrates
what the wolf-dog experienced and how it survived from the wild to the world of
human civilization. It seems that wild animals are live to against human, but White
Fang used his way to break the law. He found out how to get on well with people and
adapt himself to the human world. White Fang was born in a warm family but the
comfortable situation didn't last long. His father and siblings are died and his mother
was taken away by human. He had to deal with the bullying and other difficulties
independently. But when he thought his life would be settled, he was accidently
bought by a bad man. From then on, he had been treated violently and he began to
hate. But after some time, the brightness came again and White Fang finally found his
master and his loyalty moved his master.
The story is not only about the nature, but also the relationship in the nature.
White Fang's parents are both grand, but they left him very early. His first master is
kind but easy to be deceived. Beauty Smith, the cruel man is a coward. Scott, his
master at last was a good man with love, he respected White Fang and regarded him
as his best friend. They built relationship between each other. People are really
different from each other, some are kind but some are not. The story uses many
comparisons to show the virtue and vice of the human nature. And it also let the
lessons that White Fang learned throughout the adventure of him. White Fang learned
a lot from his own experiences, his first lesson was that taking risks can be painful,
and his another big lesson was that living things were food, but some of them could
hurt, and then he knew another law of the wild- ear or be eaten: kill or be killed. Next,
he learned to hate as he had never hated before. Finally, when he found his master, he
learned how to love and be loved.
This story uses personification to tell us how to survive from the wolf-dog's point,
but in a way, it's also the law that people in the society should obey. We should learn
to deal with difficulties and get along with others. We should always learn from
experiences and face the hardship in front of us, just like White Fang do. It's true that
life is unpredictable, but how you deal with misfortune is the true test of your

character. If you choose only to complain and run away from the suffering, it will
always follow you wherever you go. But if you decide to be strong, the hardship will
turn out to be a fortune on which new hopes will arise.

Jack London, the author of White Fang, was born in 1876 and died in 1916.
Although he lived for only 41 years, the compositions he wrote for us were
constantly affecting many generations. This book was published in 1906 in
America, and it is regarded as a great novel that tells about animal. The title
"White Fang" helps readers know that its main character is the one named White
Fang, I get the important information from the title as well.

Unit1 5101 White Fang
At the beginning of the story, a she-wolf mixed in a group of dogs in the cold
wild of The North Pole, then she got away and had her first cubs. Strangely, one of
the cubs was different from his brothers and sisters who had their mother's reddish
fur, he is our main character, the wolf dog. After other cubs died of hunger, the
she-wolf took him to be in the big wild world. As he grew up, he gradually learnt
what pain, pleasure and other emotions are. At the same time, he lost his mother
and got his name "White Fang" from his first master called Grey Beaver. Soon
White Fang met the first enemy in his life a dog Lip-lip, he was miserable at that
time, but he didn't give up. In the contrary, he paid his efforts and finally became
the head of the dog team and was a fast and fearless leader. Unfortunately, the
enjoyable life ended in a man called Beauty Smith, White Fang's second owner.
Beauty ordered him to fight with other dogs, White Fang became famous because
he won all the time. Beauty earned a lot. White Fang became cruel and unloved.
Once, White Fang lose, was being kicked by Beauty. Matt and Scott passed by and
saw this scaring situation, made a decision to own White Fang without hesitated.
Scott was White Fang's third master, and was both loving and patient. White Fang
had the feeling of love again. He was so close to Scott that he cannot be away from
his owner for a moment. Experiencing a series of struggle, Scott eventually took
his dear White Fang with him firmly, they hugged tightly.
The story In order to make the story interesting, it's necessary to use plenty of
tools. As the main character is a wolf dog not a man, the author used
personification. White Fang was regarded as a man who has specific emotions, he
can also do some actions like hugging. These descriptions filled the wolf dog with
vivid image. Besides, the motifs of the book is another point that attracts me. As
we know, animals are our good friends, especially dogs , which help human-being
all their life. The theme is moving enough for us. Moreover, the writer described
the changes on White Fang. Every detail can build up the character.
White Fang extremely embodied the great spirit of loyal dogs. Moreover, the
story talks about love, loving and being loved. All of these are worth thinking
about. I'd like to recommend this book to others, for both its touching points and
sincere feelings. The truth of love will be the first thing to talk about, and it also
makes this story have social significance. All in all, White Fang is good at not only
literature but also emotions.

It’s Not Only an Adventure
--Book report on Gulliver’s Travels

The author of the book Gulliver’s Travels is Jonathan Swift. He was born in
Dublin, Ireland. Gulliver’s Travels is finished in 1726 and is the author’s best known
work. It’s really a story worth reading, because it’s not only Gulliver’s adventure, but
also a literary masterpiece full of satires and criticism. The story narrates four singular
experiences in navigation of Gulliver, reflects the reality in this way.
Gulliver is a traveler who sails to many strange lands. After a shipwreck, he
landed in Lilliput, where was full of tiny people. Then he visited a giant country
named Brobdingnag. After that, he was accidentally sent to a flying island- Laputa.
Finally, he took a trip to the land of the Houyhnhnms and lived there for a long time.
Gulliver was first washed to Lilliput, where the inhabitants were all tiny-sized,
including the king of the land. People there weren’t friendly enough and Gulliver
looked down upon them, so he escaped and landed in another country which was far
from the one before- It’s a giants’ world. Gulliver was regarded as a unique creature
and looked after by a farmer’s daughter. But when he introduced his own country to
the king there, expected the king’s agreement and praise. But to his surprise, the
king’s reaction was just the opposite- he didn’t like the war and the gun at all. Next,
he started his third voyage and the destination was the flying land named Laputa. It
was an isolated world , people’s thoughts were blocked there.
Gulliver finally got to the land of the Houyhnhnms. Horses were the masters
there, they had great wisdom and discipline, and also polite. There’s all trust and no
deceit in that world, so Gulliver enjoyed the life. But they kept a creature named
“yahoo” and they were bad and just like human. As a human, Gulliver was expelled
from the land and got back to England. But he still kept his old habits and behaved
like a horse. Gulliver spent his rest life living with his horses.
The situation of the land Gulliver had visited implied the world he hated in reality
and the peaceful world he was looking forward to. The artistic features of Gulliver's
Travels mainly reflected in the use of irony manipulation, sharp and deep irony is the
soul of this work. If you read this story with the background of it, you may find that
it’s not only an adventure.

We Should Understand More About The Animal

The book “Black Beauty” was written by an English writer named Anna
Sewell. Since she has an accident at the age of 14, she had never been able to stand
or walk for a long time. And that made her grow to know about horse, thus she
wrote her only novel “Black Beauty” which made a great success. Nowadays,
more than 50 million copies are sold. From it was published in 1878,this was a
novel that shows us a different world from a horse’s view, the title “Black Beauty”
is the name of our main character.
The story is mainly about the life he had in different places from his young age
to old age, At first, this black horse was born on a green meadow with amazing
view, It was a place where the horse grew up with nothing to worry about. After he
was sold to a squire, his working life started, he also got name “Black Beauty” due
to his handsome look. Though life wasn’t as peaceful as that in his hometown, he
gained kindness and friendship from his grooms and friends. However, life had
changed since he moved to Earsall Park. Not only the groom was stricter, but also
the work was heavier than before, but his temper is controlled by his good manner.
After suffering from different torment, Black Beauty finally came to a benevolent
groom who treated him really well, unluckily, the kind groom was told to move to
country if he still want to be alive. No sooner had he said good-bye to his former
owner, than he was sent to a cruel new owner who brought the darkness to his life.
However, life was always dramatic, at the end of the story , he was sold to his first
groom, and from then on, he would have a peaceful and happy life with his first
groom.
From my point of view, I learned a lot from this book, and I find it unique to
show us a world in horse’s eyes, the working life is the main clue of the story, and
there are different horses and people with various kinds of characters. The one who
impressed me is a horse who named Ginger, Ginger and Black Beauty had the
same beginning at first, but what made their ending so different despite the destiny?
I think the attitude towards life depends a lot. Though life seems to treat her
without mercy, she shouldn’t be pessimistic. Besides her bad temper led her to a
unlucky life, she always didn’t do what the owner said, while Black Beauty keep
his good manner and obeyed the rules. Nobody’s life is perfect, we need to get
used to it gradually, the process to adapt life is difficult, but when you make
it ,your life will be better. Another important message the novel conveys is being
kind to animals. The novel makes people to understand more about the animals.
This book ought to be considered as a great book telling us many
principles ,The description of the horse’s heart is fantastic, too. I’d like to
recommend it to others, and one thing I want to discuss is why Jerry the groom
11

killed the old horse Captain. Though he wanted to stop his sufferance, there are many
ways to reduce his pain. If I were him, I would send the horse to a friend whom I rely
on, or take care of him myself. ALL in all, this is a great novel worth reading.

Learning Is The Only Way For Human To Advance
2015 届高一一单元 01 班 1521313 田韵声
Black Beauty was written by Anna Sewell, a famous writer who had very poor
health and never married. But that novel paid her back. It was so popular that it
even had sold 50 million copies! Black Beauty was adapted by Julie Sykes and
illustrated by Natalie Ball. Black Beauty is a 62 thousand-words novel, and the
story is about the autobiography of the horse named “Black Beauty”.
Black Beauty is a small black colt with long legs and brown eyes, and has
some white far on forehead, so he seems really beautiful. He lives in a rich family
and trains well in his early life. And that builds his character clever and kind. But
no longer he has been sold out many times and meets different people with
different characters. Some of them treat Black Beauty as close friend, while some
of just regard him as a vent to their anger. But black beauty is always trying his
best to help people as much as he can. All in all, he experiences so much that a
common person may not be able to experience in his whole life. And in Black
Beauty’s life, he also learns the principle of living and realizes his situation every
time, and he might have different feelings of human. Finally, he stabilizes his
winding destiny, that’s a worthy ending to him.
As we know, Black Beauty’s life is really hard. He has worked for pulling the
carriage, riding horse, and even pulling the cab. But she has something fixed in
him and that never changes during his whole life. We all know the answer—spirits.
In most cases, horses are always being praised by their honesty, braveness and
kindness. And there isn’t exception in this book, either. Maybe this story wants to
tell us to be kind and friendly to animals like Black Beauty, because these animals
are always contributing their hardworking to us generously. So what’s the reason
we harm them? Parents and teachers all told us “everyone born to equal” when we
were young. But now many people really treat these animals as human beings and
take care of them, pay attention to every movement they have done? Please do
self-questioning seriously. In my opinion, the author also means to suggest people
learn the spirits from Black Beauty, because Black Beauty reminds me of the
horses of Honyhmhum in Gulliver’s Travels. Why can’t we have the spirits that
horses have? Someone ever said, ”Learning is the only way for human to
advance.” And that’s a kind of meaning for human to live.
I really would like to recommend this book to my friends. From this book, I
learned a lot that parents and teachers never taught me before. That book deeply
impressed me, and I finally realized why this novel can be called “Classic”.

Ways To Make Our Life Meaningful
2015 届高一一单元 01 班 1521614 姚可欣
Before the story, I’ll make an introduction to the writer. Anna Sewell, who was
born in 1820 and died in 1878, had written this story in poor health. It wasn’t until she
was in her fifties that she dictated Black Beauty to her mother. She wanted to kindness,
sympathy and understanding treatments of horses. Why she loved horses so much?
That’s because of her unforgettable experience. She had an accident when she was
fourteen. She walked home alone in a rainy day and then she fell and hurt both of her
knees. She couldn’t stand or walk for the rest of her life and at that time, she could
only use horses to go around. From then on she had the indissoluble bond with the
horses.
The story begins with Black Beauty’s first home. It is a comfortable period and he
learns several manners from his mother. He should be gentle and open-minded. As he
gets older, he has to be broken in and he has a gentle owner. After that, Black Beauty
begins his working life because he is sold to Squire Gordon. At Birtwick Park, he
meets Ginger, and fells sorry about her life before. Once in a stormy night, he made a
right decision that he didn’t cross the broken bridge and avoided an accident. This
makes Black Beauty gets on well with his coachman John and James. And another
unforgettable thing happens in December, the hayloft catches a fire and the situation is
urgent so he is soared. James uses a scarf to cover his eyes and saves his life at last.
After it, another urgent thing happens, Gordon’s wife is badly ill and John has to
ask the doctor to their home at once. He is speeding across the countryside and
eventually Squire’s wife is saved and has nothing serious. However, Black Beauty is
ill because he drinks a lot of icy water after hard running journey.
Not long time after, Black Beauty has to go to a new home because Gordon’s wife
must live in a warmer country so they have to leave. At Earkhall Park, Ginger and
Black Beauty are sold to Lord W. who is a strict and violent woman. There he is
called “Black Auster”. Once Lady Anne and Blantyre go out for a riding. At that time,
he is a riding horse. But they meet uneven ground and the terrible thing is that Lady
Anne falls from Lizzie and he carries the man to the doctor as fast as possible and
saves Lady Anne’s life at last. After that, Black Auster has been a cab horse when he
lives with Jerry, who is a polite man and he looks up to everyone whatever which job
he does. Jerry can understand horses fully. Although he is not wealthy, even his life is
a bit hard, he never makes his horse work for seven days a week. He knows his horse
needs rest like human. He respects others, especially to someone who needs help.
After several years, the hard working makes both Jerry and the black horse a couple
of diseases and even the doctor tells him to give up driving the cab. Then Black
Beauty suffers a hard time and his health is steadily worse. In the end of the story,
Black Beauty goes back to Joe, his old coachman. Living in Joe’s home, Black Beauty
feels easy just like in his own home.
The meaning of life is not contribute to how much you have earned, but the ways
you treat others and bear yourself. Although Black Beauty has difficulties during his
14
Unit 1 5101 Black Beauty
life, he learns to stand them and spends time with mild attitude. Besides, Black
Beauty teaches me to keep my heart free. We should find out which way is better for
running, I think it necessary without stress. Other people’s actions may influence
yourself. But it is important to keep myself quiet and independent, just like Black
Beauty. He doesn’t like the bearing rein, as well as limit. Last but not least, although
we don’t have enough force to change the environment we live in, the only thing we
can do is to accept it as much as possible. Wherever we are, there is always a better
way to fit the new environment, so we could start a new pattern of life by our own.
The story expresses the author’s inner feelings. She uses homely words that make
me feel extremely cordial. The story delivers several deep arguments by using tiny
sentences. In all, Black Beauty’s living principles make my inner world take out a
new look.

Treat the animals equally
——Book Report of Black Beauty
2015 届高一一单元 01 班 1521508 金铭洋
Black Beauty is a famous novel which is written by Anna Sewell. Anna was born
in Norfolk and she grew to know horse well. Black Beauty spent her almost 6 years
writing it, it was the only book she wrote. Anna died in 1878 because of the illness,
but everyone will always remember her as a wonderful writer who gives such a
meaningful book.
Black Beauty tells us the whole life of a horse whose name is Black Beauty.
Although he has a lot of names, this one is my favorite. Just like the name, Black
Beauty is a smart and strong excellent horse. He is born in a good family so that he
has the good manners. When he grows up, he becomes more and more beautiful; he
has the soft black coat, one white foot and a pertly white star on his forehead.
Although the owner likes him very much, he was to sell Black Beauty to others. From
then on, Beauty has a lot of adventures. He starts as a riding horse, then a carriage
horse, then a London cab horse and is often treated badly. But he never gives up and
always be optimistic about the life.
His first family is Birtwick Park. At Birtwick Park he makes a new friend Ginger
who is a chestnut more with a white flash on her forehead. At that time, Black Beauty
is very lucky because he has a good coachman and a good owner. He work hard for
them, save his owner from having an accident, gallops like the wind in order to call
the doctor and so on. The longer he stays with them, the more he likes them. But soon,
Ginger and him are sold and they are off to a new life with a new owner.
The new own Lady W hopes they can look better so she wearing them with a
bearing-rein which is looks fashion but horrible for the horse. Black Beauty soon
becomes a carriage horse. In Earlshall Park, he is looked after by a clever man whose
name is Reuben Smith. The only trouble is that he has a drinking problem. One day
Reuben drinks heavily and is pushy to Black Beauty so he fall down and get a scar on
his knee. When Lady W sees him, she thinks he is not beauty at all. Then he is sold
again.
This time he becomes a cab horse, he has to work hard for his owner ever working
until dead. He is really unhappy, but he always does his best. Sometimes he is sold to
the good owner who can care for him, give he love, but sometimes he is sold to the
bad guys who are pushy, cruel, treat him badly and only want to get the money from
him. Fortunately, he finds a good home in the end and live a happy life with his new
owners.
Black Beauty not only tells us a story, but also tells us a truth that we should treat
animal friendly. We can see a lot of good qualities of human on Black Beauty, and this
book is written by the point through the novel. It’s the love between humans and
animals. The reason why he is unhappy when he becomes a cab horse is that the
owner doesn’t think he has the same feeling as a human, he just think Black Beauty is
16
Unit 1 5101 Black Beauty
an animal, an animal which can make a lot of money for him. So at that time, Black
Beauty is unloved. But it’s not the same when Black Beauty meets John. John treats
him just like his old friend, when there is a fire in Birtwik Park, John saves him
immediately and thinks for the horse first instead of himself. I’m deeply moved when
reading it. In our daily live, we should treat animal just like John treats Black Beauty
does, because the animal has the feeling too. I believe that if we treat them well, they
will treat us in the same way too. Only in this way, our world will become more and
more peaceful.
Black Beauty is a really nice book. Reading this book, you will know more about
the real feeling of animals and you might laugh or cry or angry or feel happy with the
character. That’s the exact fun of reading. Besides, it can read by all ages. In a word,
Black Beauty and it’s obvious that you will fall in love with it just like I do.

Animals Should Be Taken Care Of

Black beauty is Anna Sewell’s best known work. Anna was born in
Norfolk,England. Anna grew to know horses well after she had the accident that made
her be not able to stand or walk for long periods of time at the age of 14. In order to
call on people to be merciful to horses, she spent 6 years writing her only book, Black
Beauty. And shortly afterwards she died of illness. Black Beauty was published in
1878 and to date it is believed to have sold 50 million copies. Black Beauty is a
classic children’s novel. Besides, the title tells me the hero of the novel.
Black Beauty is the autobiography of a hero. Through various owners who acts
differently from each other , he keeps his temper and work hard for them. He is a full
blooded and docile cub with a soft black coat, long legs and brown eyes. Black
Beauty is continuously sold from on family to another. In the end, Black Beauty
returns to his original master’s hug as well as enjoys life there. Ginger is created as a
negate example and she is a friend of Black Beauty. She leads a much more miserable
life than Beauty did. John is Black Beauty’s original owner and he treats Beauty
patiently . On the contrary, some people are rude to the horses because they just take
advantage of them.
After reading the story, I know we should treat animals well because they are
friends who live with us together on the earth. It is clear that the writer is sympathetic
about animals who are suffering from miserable lives. The novel portrayed the real
condition of working horses living in Britain during the Victorian Era and Anna
succeeded in drawing people’s attention to horses’ hard life. She used special ways to
write this book. We can hear the story directly from the the horse’s point of view,
which makes the story lively.
In my opinion, Black Beauty is a great book focusing on animal’s living. It is
important because it makes people learn that treating animals well is not only
essential to them but also beneficial to ourselves. I will recommend it to my friends.
The description in the book is extremely meticulous ,plain and succinct. However, it
also has disadvantages .
In all, Black Beauty is really fit for us to read.

The Bumpy Life Experiences of Black Beauty
2015 届高一一单元 01 班 1521206 李鑫
“Black Beauty” is a famous novel in the world, it came out in the 19th century in Britain. This
book was written by Anna Sewell. From its title, I can know that the novel described the
experience of Black Beauty, it must have many interesting events in his life.
The author started this story with Black Beauty’s description of his memory about his happy
childhood. As a very young foal, the beautiful Black Beauty receives some very sound advice from
his mother. His mother wanted him to be a fine horse like his grandfather. When he got older, he
came to his first home, the local squire's hall. Black Beauty met other horses. He was often busy
pulling the carriage with his friend. He is a good horse, he had ever saved many people on a night
of the bad weather. He also escaped from a dangerous fire. One day, the squire’s wife was very ill
and had to ride to town to fetch the doctor, Black Beauty wasn’t afraid of it, so he carried John and
the doctor all the night, he was really tired, at last, he had an inflammation on his lungs. Unluckily,
Mrs Gordon was often sick and she must move to a warmer country, so Black Beauty had to change
the master. She was Lady W. In Earlshall Park, the use of bearing rein made Black Beauty painful.
Our poor Black Beauty got his knees ruined because Mr. Rubber Smith, who was drunk, took Black
Beauty on a dangerous ride and at last killed himself after falling down. As a result, Black Beauty
was sold as a job horse. He still had a hard life, he was sold again. Black Beauty’s new owner, a
corn dealer, was kind to him, but the dealer’s foreman, Jakes, often overworked the horse and used
the bearing rein. Beauty was too old and too weak. Once he was exhausted because of the heavy
load. Then Beauty found a new owner, a farmer. Beauty was sold him to Miss Ellen and Miss
Blomefield. To Beauty’s surprise, he met Joe Green there. From then on, Black Beauty began a
happy life at his last home.
This book tells us an amazing story. I like Black Beauty very much, because he is really brave,
kind, tolerant, moral and hard-working. The story also tells us a reality, you can see how Black
Beauty enjoys the many kindnesses and survives the terrible mistreatments in his life.
T his book has a high position in the history of literature. I was attracted by the vivid portrayal
and Black Beauty’s bumpy life experiences. I will recommend this novel to my friends, they must
like reading such a good story. I might tell them the magical experience of Black Beauty at first. To
sum up, it’s really a great book for us to read.

Jules Gabriel Verne was born in France, in city called Nantes. Nantes was a busy
harbor city, and when he was young, Jules would often row a boat around the harbor
with his younger brother, where he found the sight of all the ships very exciting. The
stirred his imagination and he would later write about inventions in his science fiction
stories that were uncannily accurate in their predictions of future transportation and
technology. The book was published in Beijing, from China Youth Publishing Group,
2011. Actually, I had read the book when I was in primary school, but nowI had some
new understanding.
The story happened in the 1867, it was the year of the sea monster, and everyone
was talking about it. What was it? Did it come from the bottom of the oceans? People
scared and worry. At this moment, ”I” am a professor of natural history at the museum
of Paris, Ijoined an expedition to get rid of the monster, together with my friend
Conceil anda Canadian harpooner ,Ned Land. The three people began the trip of
exploring. After a few weeks on the sea, we found the sea monsters; it attacked us and
threw me in the sea. By chance, we managed to get into the sea monster----a huge
steel submarine ship. The captain of the ship called Nemo is a serious strong man. He
led us visit all the submarine, and I was so amazed by the great science knowledge in
the ship that I even don’t mind to be a prisoner. But Ned against with me ,whatever
happened, he yearned for freedom. Iwas hesitated but still want to stay on the ship. In
my mind, during their time on the ship, they were in danger many times. They met the
attack from squid and shark, they were chased by local men, they are trapped in the
ice of south pole. In a word, whatever you can imagine about the underwater trip’s
dangerous; they were all in the book.
I am deeply impressed by the character of Ned and Nemo. Ned is brave, strong
and persisting inseeking freedom, it seems that nobody can stop him from it. Nemo is
cruel in some way, but at first he also canrisk his life struggling with shark to save a
first-meet people. However, then he seemed ruled by hatred, and forget his kindness.
He can use his steel submarine to kill many people without blinking eyes, he was so
amazing that don’t care what others thinking. Regularly, I am strongly against with a
killer, but these time, actually, I am symphony with him, his cold came from his
miserable family, he lost all he loved----country, wife, children, father and mother. He
is also an unfortunately people. We lived in an intact family from birth, so maybe I
can’t understand Nemo’s hurt completely, but Iam really pity for the intelligent man,
if he wasn’t amazing like this, maybe he would have been a great knowledgeable

scientist.
At the same time, I am excited by the description of fighting in the book .it is so
heart quake that I am worried about Nemo and Ned many times, although they are
strong enough. I was also thinking about what is the real right after reading chapter4
blood in the water. Is it right to kill all
Killer whale because they eat sperm whale for food? If it is not, could it be said that
we should see the cruel fight but take part in it? I believe that the nature has its own
rules; it is not right for creatures to be killed by us with no reason. We’d better let the
creatures live as they used to.

20,000 Leagues Under the Sea was written by Jules Verne who was born in
France, in a city called Nantes. When he was young, Jules would row a boat around
the harbour with his younger brother, where he found the sight of all the ships very
exiting. This stirred his imagination, and he would later write about inventions in his
science fiction stories that were rejected by many publishers. Eventually, he found a
publisher who helped him to rewrite his stories, and he published his first book Five
Week in a Balloon. Then he became wealthy through his writing. His books are still
among the most translated in the world.
The main character is Pierre Aronnax, Professor of Natural History at the
Museum of Paris. The story is about the adventures of Aronnax, his colleague and a
sailor. In 1866, Aronnax was studying a large monster which nobody knew the
monster was a submarine called Nautilus’. The three men were held captive by
Nemo, the captain of the submarine. The adventure across the world beneath the
oceans meeting many challenges – huge icebergs, angry sharks and terrifying squids.
The time passed until the first day of April, they got the Bahama Islands and escaped
from the ship because of a huge maelstorm. As they ended the 20,000 leagues travel
under the sea, Aronnax revealed the monster’s veil to the world.
20,000 Leagues Under the Sea is a great book. I really admire that Verne can
write such a good book, whose imagination is unforgettable to combine science and
ocean perfectly. What’s more, he creates a magical underwater world. For the content
of this book, readers can get much wisdom from the content and learn to be brave
from the characters who overcome difficulties. Another thing is that the writer also
combines scientific knowledge with realistic details so that readers can read more
truly.
In our lives, we have many difficulties. But compared with the risk in ocean, our
troubles are too small to mention. So we should learn from the characters in the story.
From my point of view, we ought to face the troubles by keeping a clear heart and
having enough courage. If we believe in ourselves and solve problems in details, we
can overcome difficulties nodoubtly. If you can’t do so, you maybe beaten by the
troubles and became more and more fail. All in all, we should face the difficulties
smartly and bravely.

The Lost World was written by Arthur Conan Doyle who is famous for his work
The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes and The Cose---Book of Sherlock Holmes
around the world. Doyle was born in Scotland. The middle name “Conan”was added
by himself to his surname later on, but no one knows why. Conan Doyle studied
medicine at Edinburgh University and at that time, he began to write short stories.
After graduation from the university, he became a doctor. But it was not very
successful. So he went on to writing to fill in time while waiting for his patients.
Conan Doyle was a good writer instead of a doctor, though he ever showed his
interests in writing in the words he wrote and said. The best known work of him is the
highly popular books Sherlock Holmes stories, which have been translated into more
than 50 languages. The stories including 56 short novels and 4 novels featuring have
became the classics in detective stories.
Though The Lost World is not so famous as Holmes, it is a classic science fiction
for future generations to appreciate. Conan Doyle not only is good in detective stories,
but also does well in fantastic scientific stories. The book named as The Lost World,
describe a strange world to us. From the reporter’s point of view, reader know
Challenger, Summer Lee and Lord, and have a bit known of their characters by their
words and actors. Because of Challenger’s challenge, the four of different characters
form a team. During the trip, Challenger’s old enemy, Summer Lee always fights and
squirrel with him. The exploration to the lost world is so exciting because the trip is
filled with unknown dangers. Many prehistoric creature are waiting for their coming!
As the development of the exploration, Summer Lee realized his mistake and
apologized to Challenger. When they totally go into the world, they expiries a series
of thing. A band of men saved them from ape-men as well as a girl----the princess.
After meeting strange men and dinosaurs, then finally go back to their world with an
egg of a pterodactyl.
Who impressed me most was SummerLee. As we know, he is also a scientist who
is well-informed like Challenger. And we all can see his strong-respect by receiving
the challenge to everyone’s face. Of course, he is also a man with hot-temper and
arrogant. However, such a proud man can admit his mistake and apologize to
Challenger, his “enemy” sincerely. That moved me. And when Challenger forgive
him, I really want to thank him for SummerLee. That’s what a real gentleman should
do, I think.
After reading this book, I am more concerned with friends around me. Because I
know they are the people I am depend on, like the four of the team. We can believe in

Conan Doyle, the book’s author, was born in Scotland. His
mother played an important part in his interest in literature, as she
often told him stories .He studied medicine at Edinburgh
University and also began writing short stories, the first of which
was published when he was 19.After University he worked as a
ship’s doctor and practiced medicine in Plymouth. But as his
practice wasn’t very successful, he started writing stories again to fill in time while
waiting for patients
The Lost World told us a story of an adventure. Professor Challenger said he had
found a plateau which has lots of prehistoric creatures on a scientific meeting. He
asked someone go with him prove he said was true and three guys join him. Professor
Summerlee, who was Challenger’s old enemy, wanted to prove he was wrong. Lord
John who have already traveled widely in South America. I was a reporter, because I
wanted to be famous, I also join in this team. At the beginning of the trip Challenger
played a trick with us. He gave us an envelope to point out where was the plateau. He
also said to us didn’t open the envelope until we got to Manaos, but the envelope
didn’t write anything. When we arrived in Manaos, Challenger also appeared in there
he said it was better he lead us to plateau himself. After we left Manaos, we traveled
along the Amazon and hired two men. The road wasn’t safe at all Though two
professors were too busy squabbling to notice, I and two villagers were very sacred by
the war drums. When we arrived at the place which under plateau walls. One thing
proved Challenger was right, a plerodacty picked a rabbit that we catched for the
dinner. Since then, Summerlee and Challenger became good friends. We used a tree
to make a bridge. When we got to the plateau, the bridge was destroyed by two
villagers because they wanted to go home. We made a camp to retreat, but it wasn’t
safety, if John didn’t fight against a dinosaur , all of us would be eaten. We found I
guanodans and plerodacty’s lair and I made a map of plateau. Then our camp was
destroyed by ape-men and we were caught but some people saved us by accident.
They took us to their cave. Finally, with Princess suggestions, we found the way to
freedom.
I think Challenger is a very violent but clever person. He always said to people
who didn’t agree with him “come outside and fight’ that shows his violence. But
according to his wonderful idea which is using the gas to make a balloon so that they
can fly away. How clever he is! Though he failed in the end, there is no doubt that he

is a smart person. Lord John is a very brave person. If a dinosaur who wanted to eat
you sat next to you ,most people would be so scared that they couldn’t move, but he
didn’t. He thrusted the burning branches to the dinosaur’s nose.
In my opinion, the biggest reason for the success of this trip is that the four people
are quite different from others. They have different character, experience and they
were also in different ages. But only in this way, they can learn from each other to
make up a much more powerful team.

The Lost World is a science fiction story written by Arthur Conan Doyle, a
Scottish writer most famous for his stories about the detective Sherlock Holmes,
which have been translated into more than 50 languages. His mother played an
important part in his interest in literature, as she often told him stories in his early
childhood. The interesting thing is that he studied medicine at university and started to
write stories later, just like Lu Xun.
This adventure story tells the tale of four explorers, each with very different
characteristics and different reasons for their journey. Professor Challenger, an
unpopularity eccentric who claimed that he found some kind of lost world in South
America with strange and marvelous creatures in it. Professor Summerlee was his old
enemy who did not believe what he said. Lord John Roxton was an experienced
traveler and ED Malone was a reporter who needed adventure to report. These four
people set out together to find out whether the lost world really existed. During the
long and difficult journey, two professors were busy squabbling like children and
jibing each other. But as soon as they saw the pterodactyl, Professor Summerlee
apologized to Professor Challenger immediately and the two old enemies shook hands.
They got into the lost world by using a tree trunk which was destroyed later so they
were trapped in this dangerous place. When they were discovering the lost land, they
were in danger sometimes but each one in this team would risk his life to save other
people’s life so they managed to survive. At the end of the story, they found a way
back to the real world and proved the lost world to the public.
The author chose four people of different personalities to form a team in order to
show the importance of being united. Though everybody had weakness, everyone had
his own skills which became useful when they were in the worrisome situation. Also,
I could feel the power of forgiveness as I was moved when Professor Surmmerlee said
“I was a fool to do so, for I see now that you were telling the truth” devoutly and
Professor Challenger said “I accept your apology, sir” with great dignity. Their
friendship must have been brighter than the stars in the sky after going through all of
these.
All in all, we could not only read a fantastic story but also learn some lessons
which are important for our life through this book.

The Lost World is a novel released in 1912. It was written by Conan Doyle. The story was about an
expedition to a plateau in the Amazon basin of Southern America where prehistoric animals lived there.
The novel was about a war between Native Americans and the ape-like creatures.
Conan Doyle(1859-1930) was born in Scotland. His mother lead him to the interest of literature. His
most famous novels were the series of Sherlock Holmes Stories. He also worked as a doctor.
This adventure mostly told us about an expedition of 4 person who had very different
characteristics and different reasons for their journey. Professor Challenger claimed to the audience
about “the lost world” he discovered in Southern America but no one believed him, so he set out a
challenge for the team—“I”, Lord John, Professor Summerlee and himself.
They were attacked by dinosaurs many time. Also they were attacked by the ape-like creatures.
There were many dangerous on the plateau. “I” climbed a tall tree and wrote down the map and they
were captured once but the Native Americans helped them and rescued them. They found out a lot of
things. They first wanted to fly out of the plateau but this idea was too crazy to come true. So they
finally figured out a way out of the lost world and book to the human society.
Through this adventure story I can see a fantastic cooperation made by 4 people with very different
characteristics. They were so different that they often had some quarrels but they could pet well again
and again. That shows when people are facing danger we can be strong.
Another feel is that this story tells us a balance between human and nature. We can’t destroy the
balance and we must live in the nature harmony.
When facing danger, be brave and go forward than you can conquer the difficulties. I think that’s
what the writer want to tell us.

David Copperfield:Never Lose In Hope

Victorian era is considered as a special period which was between 1837 and 901
AD of Britain. With the effect of the industrial revolution, the nation raised sharply
both in economy and global status to become a great empire. But on the other hand,
when paying attention to the lives of the masses in Britain, there were still many
problems and hardships. As to get further information about that, David Copperfield
by Charles dickens would be a good choice.
David Copperfield was actually a posthumous child of a humble family in Suffolk.
His life can be briefly divided into a terrible childhood, an ever-changing life and a
satisfied ending.
For starters, David lived with his mother and their housekeeper Peggotty, without
seeing his own father who died six months before and his aunt Betsey Trotwood who
abandoned him since he was not a girl as she had expected. When his mother married
a very cruel man, Mr Murdstone, David was sent away to boarding school. Davis’s
mother died later and since then he was forced to work at a warehouse. After the
manager of it being arrested for never paying debt, he left the warehouse and
managed to found the only living relative, great aunt Betsey to survive. Betsey
adopted him and he began to live a happier life with her. David went to work at a law
firm where he met Urian Heep, who caused many problems and Agens, who became a
good friend. David successfully resolved the trouble caused by Heep with the help of
Mr Micawber the warehouse keeper and married an adorable young woman. Sadly,
she died, but in time David became a great writer and married Agens.
To be honest, some characters in the story were quite beyond my expectation. For
example, David’s step-father Murdstone behaved so cruel to child that it even made
me wonder if he was truly moral inside with a high social status outside. Another
important lesson I learned from the story was that however hard or discouraging life
may seem to be, we should never lose in hope. David was defeated by fortune a
hundred times, but still remained strong in will. We should stand and face them
bravely.

A Book Report on David Copperfield

When people talk about David Copperfield, we are always thinking of the
world-famous magician. But this book named David Copperfield is also a classic
masterpiece that has long history and it’s a favorite of many literature lovers. David
Copperfield was written by Charles Dickens, a world-famous 19th century English
writer whose books are still very popular today, often made to films and TV series. It
was adapted by Jonny Zucker, and illustrated by Tim Archbold. This novel tells the
experience of the main character David form childhood to middle age, included
friends, family, love and marriage, clearly describes the society in England of 19 th
century.
The story starts with the family background of David. His life is full of ups and
downs. In his childhood, he lives with his mother and their housekeeper Peggotty. His
father had died before he is born. When his mother marries a very cruel man, Mr.
Murdstone, who is always bullying David and her, David is sent away to boarding
school named “Salem House”. He meets the headmaster Mr. Creakle who is even
crueler than Mr. Murdstone. He is treated unfairly and discriminated by others but he
meets elder boy Steerforth who treats him as friend. After his mother’s death, he
leaves Salem House and fights for his life. Finally he finds her aunt Betsey. After
listening to his painful experience, Betsey lets him lives with her solicitor, Mr.
Wickfield, and sends him to school, changes his name to “Trotwood Copperfield”. He
dislikes Mr. Wickfield’s partner Heep, and becomes a good friend of Mr. Wickfield’s
daughter Agnes. After David graduates from high school, he decides to back to
London and visit the Peggottys. On the way he passes Salem House, he sees
Steerforth and asks him to visit together. While Emily who has already engaged with
Ham is tempted by Steerforth and runs away with Steerforth, Ham determined to find
Emily even search the whole world. When David has back to London, he starts work
for Mr. Spenlow. On the one hand, through Agnes’s words, he realizes Mr. Wickfield
has been trapped by Heep and makes him really angry. On the other hand, David has
been in love with Mr. Spenlow’s daughter Dora, but the life after his marriage is not
as well as he thinks. And he finds that Dora never had never look after herself and
always expects him. At the same time, David meets Mr. Micawber who is his landlord
when he was working as a child. But now, Mr. Micawber is Heep’s clerk, finally he
exposes Heep’s plot and crime. After this event, Dora died of illness, and David
decides run away. He witnesses Ham jumping in to the ocean and saving the survivor
from shipwrecked. At last, Ham disappears in a swirl of foam, and the survivor,
Steerforth, has died too. In the end of the story, Dan finds Emily in London and they
begin a new live in Australia. David eventually become a writer, when he arrives back
in England, he marries Agnes and lives happily with Agnes and aunt Betsey.
33
Unit1 5101 David Copperfield
In my opinion, this story fully appears how English people live in 19 th century.
This novel is full of emotion. At first, it shows a kind of happiness when a boy who is
lack of love finally finds a friend and a kind of hate when he witnesses someone
ruining his family. Aunt Betsey plays an important part in the whole life of David. She
gives David sincere love and care, helps him all the time. Then when David grows up,
the novel starts describing the innocence and blindness of love. It also describes the
changes of different characters during the passing of years. Some plots of this book
really make readers want to cry. Such as the death of Dora, she is the most innocent
girl in the world as the words the author put down describe. In the life after the
marriage with David, all her want to do is to keep the love between them, though she
knows she isn’t fit to be a wife, but her love is pure and clean till her die. That’s the
most impressive point of this character. Ham, a man who is full of the feeling of
responsibility, the belief that he must find Emily even though he searches the whole
world deeply moves me. But in the end, he died of saving a “stranger” from
shipwrecked risking his life. The braveness and kindness without hesitation shocks
me. And I’m always thinking why his kindness hasn’t been paid back. All I can do is
pray for him and pray for every hero like him in the whole world. The life of the main
character David is hard and complicated, but I think after all tough experiences, he
will learn more about how to live and how to enjoy life.
I really would like to recommend this book to others. It’s not only a famous
masterpiece, but also a book that tells life, emotion and destiny. This kind of novel is
not easy to find in the history of literature. If I have enough time, I’ll read the more
complete version for me to understand much more about this story.

The Experience Of A Kind-hearted Boy

The author of the book is an English writer named Charles Dickens. From my
point of view, the compositions he wrote were all great, such as Oliver Twist, which I
have read at the age of 10. Of course, his experiences made his talent. He was born in
England and started school when he was 9. At the age of 12, he was sent to work in a
factory for 10 hours every day. This novel was based on these experiences.
David Copperfield tells us a story of an boy named David Copperfield. His father
was dead before his birth. He had a happy childhood with the housekeeper, Peggotty.
Years went, his mother got married with Mr. Murdstone who was a cruel man. As a
result, the little David lived a hard life with Mr. and Miss Murdstone. In his house, his
poor mother didn’t have ability looking after him, he was bullied cruelly. After
studying in boarding school and working In the warehouse, David decided to go away.
He found his great-aunt Betsey and lived with her. Then David constantly met
different kinds of people and fell in love with two girls. In the end, David Copperfield
gained happiness.
In David’s whole life, there some important female roles. I like two of them. Aunt
Betsey must be mentioned. She didn’t like boys but girls, so when she knew David
was a boy, she wasn’t happy but still adopted him and took cares. And when Mr.
Mursdstone came to ask David to be back, she did her best to protect David. From her
behavior, we could saw a woman with characteristics of warmth, kindness and
courage.

The other girl is Agnes, she was a beautiful and wise girl. She loved David all the
time. After Dora’s death and many things, David finally knew Agnes’s heart and fell

In a word, this novel showed us the life of a miserable boy. Both the good things
and bad things he experienced were his wealth, and his kindness and love made him
get happy life in the end.

David Copperfield: the Preeminent Novel of Realism
2015 届高一一单元 01 班 1526103 万青
David Copperfield is one of the most outstanding novels written by Charles
Dickens, the preeminent realistic British writer in 1800s. In this short novel, the
author narrated the difficult life of Charles Dickens who was invariably scolded and
bullied through his childhood and adolescence. To his fortune, he obtained the selfless
and genuine help from his aunt, Betsey Trotwood, when he felt “all alone in the
world”. Charles Dickens set up many characters in this story. Among them, I am
deeply impressed by Betsey Trotwood and David’s mother whose husband succumbed
to disease six months before she gave birth to David.
If we focus on the first chapter of the book, we will notice that Trotwood was
described as a cold-blood woman having the same characteristic with Murdstone and
his sister. She couldn’t control her fury and “slammed the door” simply because the
infant wasn’t a girl that she expected. Nonetheless, when readers felt uncertain about
David’s destiny after his being scolded in the factory and robbed on the road, her aunt
gave him a warm welcome as soon as she recognized his identity. When his evil
stepfather was to fetch him, she bravely protected him, drawing away his stepfather
forever. So she was a kind woman actually. Furthermore, she generally paid 1000
pounds for David’s tuition, which was a tremendous amount in that era. From these
details, we can conclude that Betsey was a woman of generosity, kindness and
selflessness. After all, she saved David at the most desperate moment.
Although David’s mother only existed at the first a third part of the book, we can’t
neglect her important role. Although the author didn’t provide us with the details of
her second marriage, he alluded to us that she was not truly satisfied to marry
Murdstone initially. To a certain extent, she was forced to marry Murdstone because
she was not able to work. Prohibiting her to love her son, the evil stepfather forced her
to be strict to David, which was extremely cruel to a mother. Additionally, she was
also bullied frequently and fiercely, which was similar to her son----but she never
dared to rebel. Ultimately, after David was drawn out of home, she could only choke
up her tears and miss her son until died in depression, ending her tragic life. All
people may feel grieve of this character.
However, I presume that the author must have some prospective purposes by
depicting those two figures. Charles Dickens utilized these two characters to claim his
opposes to the common phenomena in British society, involving thelack of women
rights, corporeal scolds, and children labor. The experience of David and his mother
exposed the inhumanity lives of children and women, especially those in lower
stratum. As for Betsey, she could be a paradigm of the suffragist, or women who were
self-independent at that time. In contrary to Murdstone, they were both rigorous and
kind to children, providing them with the best circumstances to grow up. Being a
critic realistic writer, Charles Dickens wanted to expose some problems of the society
to the public so that they would be able to get resolved in the future.

Frankenstein-an unrecommended book

Among the books in Good English 9. Frankenstein is probably the worst. Though
very famous, the author depicted quite a lot of disgusting scenes, such as when the
monster was made, or when the female monster was halfway in production. It’s
storyline is similarly horrible in description and yet mundane in theme.
It’s about a mad scientist who made life with dead body parts but was so revolted
by his own creation he abandoned it after its birth. Since then, the monster had been
despised by human and was now a killing machine who sought revenge. It killed,
whether directly or indirectly most of the people who are in association with
Frankenstein. So, the mad scientist chased the monster all around the world, intending
on the destruction of the monster, failing, and ending up on a boat, which is where the
story began as Frankenstein retold his story. He died soon afterwards, and the monster,
upon seeing his creator’s death, chose death as well.
At first glance it seems to express the frostiness human have against other
creatures and their irresponsibility, but the author made the monster so cruel that all
the sorrow you feel could be easily whipped away. But then it can be discovered that
it was simply a ghost story… well, good ones are suppose to give you a shiver down
the spine, not cowering away with a tummy upset.
In all, this book is not recommended to anyone unless they are desperate enough to
read every book in the world or else, they’ve got a heavy taste in literature.

Unit 1 5101 Frankenstein
We Should Appreciate Others
---A book report of Frankenstein
2015 届高一一单元 01 班 1521203 吴佳亿
Frankenstein is a novel written by Mary Shelley about a creature by an unorthoelox scientific
experiment. Shelley started writing the story when she was 21.The first edition was published
anonymously in London in 1818. Shelley’s name appears in the 2nd edition, published in France in
1821.
Mary Shelley(1797-1851) was the composer of this book. Frankenstein was probably the first
“mad-scientist” story. And many books &films have been based on it. The story was being wrote
during a terrible weather in Switzerland when Mary& her friends decided to write horror stories
and Frankenstein was only one finished and it influenced many generations of horror scientific
fiction novels.
The story was about Frankenstein, who created a creature use many parts of bodies from the
death. The creature was so ugly that Frankenstein ran away from him. Even the creature went into
Deep Mountain and found a family with a blind old man. He learned a lot from the old man. He
began to admire love and human society. But one day he was found by the son of the old man was
beaten away. He realized the darkness of human beings. He went to the street but many people
beat him and even shoot him. So he was so angry that he started revenge to Frankenstein. They
just against each other until to the top of Alps. They just chase each other. Finally Frankenstein
died because of exhaustion. And the creature finally realizes everything and he killed himself.
Maybe in our world many people are kind at first, but they shifted bad because of people’s
critics &insults. That creature was a symbol of this kind of person. In this novel the character has a
clearly charging. That’s why it’s so popular. Above all, we shouldn’t always insult others, instead
we should appreciate others.

A fresh new recognition of the real beauty
2015 届高一一单元 01 班 1521516 赵紫薇
Charlotte was born in Thornton, Yorkshire in 1816, the third of six children, to Maria (née Branwell) and her
husband Patrick Brontë(formerly surnamed Brunty or Prunty), an Irish Anglican clergyman. In 1820 her family
moved a few miles to the village of Haworth, where her father had been appointed Perpetual curate of St Michael
and All Angels Church. Her mother died of cancer on 15 September 1821, leaving five daughters, Maria,
Elizabeth, Charlotte, Emily, Anne and a son Branwell to be taken care of by her sister, Elizabeth Branwell. In
August 1824, Patrick Brontësent Charlotte, Emily, Maria and Elizabeth to the Clergy Daughters' School at
Cowan Bridge in Lancashire. Charlotte maintained the school's poor conditions permanently affected her health
and physical development and hastened the deaths of Maria (born 1814) and Elizabeth (born 1815), who died of
tuberculosis in June 1825. After the deaths of her older sisters, her father removed Charlotte and Emily from the
school.[1] Charlotte used the school as the basis for Lowood School in Jane Eyre.
Jane Eyer was a born resister, whose parents went off when she was very young, and her aunt, the only
relative she had, treated her as badly as a ragtag. Since Jane’s education in Lowwood Orphanage began, she didn’t
get what she had been expecting——simply being regarded as a common person, just the same as any other girl
around. The suffers from being humiliated and devastated teach Jane to be persevering and prize dignity over
anything else.As a reward of revolting the ruthless oppression, Jane got a chance to be a tutor in Thornfield
Garden. There she made the acquaintance of lovely Adele and that garden’s owner, Rochester, a man with warm
heart despite a cold face outside. Jane expected to change the life from then on, but fate had decided otherwise:
After Jane and Rochester fell in love with each other and got down to get marry, she unfortunately came to know
in fact Rochester had got a legal wife, who seemed to be the shadow following Rochester and led to his
moodiness all the time ----Rochester was also a despairing person in need of salvation. Jane did want to give him
a hand, however, she made up her mind to leave, because she didn’t want to betray her own principles, because
she was Jane Eyer. The film has finally got a symbolist end: Jane inherited a large number of legacies and finally
returned. After finding Rochester’s misfortune brought by his original mad wife, Jane chose to stay with him
forever. What’s more, this film didn’t end when Jane left Thornfield. For Jane Eyer herself, there should always be
somewhere to realize her great ideal of being independent considering her fortitude, but for Rochester, how he can
get salvation? The film gives the answer tentatively: Jane eventually got back to Rochester. In fact, when Jane met
Rochester for the first time, she scared his horse and made his heel strained, to a certain extent, which meant
Rochester would get retrieval because of Jane. We can consider Rochester’s experiences as that of religion
meaning. The fire by his frantic wife was the punishment for the cynicism early in his life. After it, Rochester got
the mercy of the God and the love of the woman whom he loved. Here we can say: human nature and divinity get
united perfectly in order to let such a story accord with the requirements of both two sides. The value of this film
may be due to its efforts to explore a new way for the development of humanism under the faith of religion.
In my mind, though a person’s beauty on the face can make others once feel that one is
attractive and charming, if his or her mind isn’t the same beautiful as the appearance, such as beauty
cannot last for, when others find that the beauty which had charmed them was only a falsity, it’s not
true, they will like the person no more. For a long time, only a person’s great virtue, a noble soul, a
beautiful heart can be called as AN EVERLASTING BEAUTY, just as Kahill Gibran has said, that
‘Beauty is a heart enflamed and a soul enchanted’. I can feel that how beauty really is, as we are all
fleshly men, so we can’t distinguish whether a man is of nobleness or humbleness, but fleshly men,
so we can’t distinguish whether a man is of nobleness or humbleness, but as there are great
differences in our souls, and from that, we can know that whether a man is noble or ordinary, and
even obscure, that is, whether he is beautiful or not.

It Is My Spirit That Addresses Your Spirit
——Book Report to Jane Eyre
2015 届高一 一单元 01 班 1521202 高雅晴
I am not talking to you now through the medium of custom, conventionalities, nor even of
mortal flesh; it is my spirit that addresses your spirit; just as if both had passed through the grave,
and we stood at God’s feet, equal-as we are!
Honestly, just from this dialog I fell in love with this book. Jane, a independent girl who gave
free rein to her ambitious mind ever from she was placed in her vicious aunt Reed’s home. Her
spoiled brother, John, always alleged she was unqualified to live in this house, which permeated an
firm mind in Jane’s heart. During the school years, she held in contempt with the ruthless men, who
were ignorant and self-centered. Fortunately, she got along well with Miss Temple, who were
reliable and sympathetic, as well as Helen, a endurable girl. Finally, she became a governess in Mr.
Rochester’s home, developed a divine romance with him. Also, illustrated his life.
Jane Eyre is an interesting story for me, because all the time it held me to see what will happen
next in the story. For example, in the beginning it held me to see that how will Jane escape from her
aunt's terror. Later on I was eager to see whether Jane will marry with Mr. Rochester or not. So,
finally I found this an interesting story, because it's like a real story and not a fiction.
Mr. Rochester and Jane Eyre are main characters of the story. By my point of view Jane Eyre is
the most important character of the story. This whole novel is depended on her and her situation.
She is an intelligent, honest young girl forced to contend with oppression and hardship. In the time
of 19th century she is trying to fit in culture as an independent person. She was always harsher by
people, but she still tried to solve it.
In the conclusion, when it finally hits, is worth the wait--not only raising the level of tension and
rhetoric, but also the thematic level of the book as well. The Rochester episode is the story that
everyone remembers from Jane Eyre, and the one part of the book that deserves to be called truly
great.

Unit 1 5101 Jane Eyre
How to make the life meaningful
2015 届高一一单元 01 班 1521605 阚峥
This is a story about a special and unreserved woman who has been exposed to a hostile
environment but continuously and fearlessly struggling for her ideal life. The story can be
interpreted as a symbol of the independent spirit.
Jane Eyre was a born resister, whose parents went off when she was very young, and her aunt,
the only relative she had, treated her as badly as a ragtag. Since Jane’s education in Logwood
Orphanage began, she dido’t get what she had been expecting——simply being regarded as a
common person, just the same as any other girl around. The suffers from being humiliated and
devastated teach Jane to be persevering and prize dignity over anything else. As a reward of
revolting the ruthless oppression, Jane got a chance to be a tutor in Thorn field Garden. There she
made the acquaintance of lovely Adele and that garden’s owner, Rochester, a man with warm heart
despite a cold face outside. Jane expected to change the life from then on, but fate had decided
otherwise: After Jane and Rochester fell in love with each other and got down to get marry, she
unfortunately came to know in fact Rochester had got a legal wife, who seemed to be the shadow
following Rochester and led to his moodiness all the time ----Rochester was also a despairing
person in need of salvation. Jane did want to give him a hand, however, she made up her mind to
leave, because she didn’t want to betray her own principles, because she was Jane Eyre. The film
has finally got a symbolist end: Jane inherited a large number of legacies and finally returned. After
finding Rochester’s misfortune brought by his original mad wife, Jane chose to stay with him
forever.
I don’t know what others feel, but frankly speaking, I would rather regard the section that Jane
began her teaching job in Thorn field as the film’s end----especially when I heard Jane’s words
“Never in my life have I been awaken so happily.” For one thing, this ideal and brand-new
beginning of life was what Jane had been imagining for long as a suffering person; for another, this
should be what the audiences with my views hoped her to get. But the professional judgment of
producing films reminded me to wait for a totally different result: There must be something wrong
coming with the excellence----perhaps not only should another section be added to enrich the story,
but also we may see from the next transition of Jane’s life that “Life is like a box of chocolates, you
never know what you would get.”
What’s more, this fiction didn’t end when Jane left Thorn field. For Jane Eyre herself, there
should always be somewhere to realize her great ideal of being independent considering her
fortitude, but for Rochester, how he can get salvation? The film gives the answer tentatively: Jane
eventually got back to Rochester. In fact, when Jane met Rochester for the first time, she scared his
horse and made his heel strained, to a certain extent, which meant Rochester would get retrieval
because of Jane. We can consider Rochester’s experiences as that of religion meaning. The fire by

sides. The value of this film may be due to its efforts to explore a new way for the development of
humanism under the faith of religion.
Life is ceaselessly changing, but our living principles remain. Firmly persisting for the rights of
being independent gives us enough confidence and courage, which is like the beacon over the
capriccioso sea of life. In the world of the film, we have found the stories of ourselves, which
45
Unit 1 5101 Jane Eyre
makes us so concerned about the fate of the dramatis personae.
In this era of rapid social and technological change leading to increasing life complexity and
psychological displacement, both physical and mental effects on us call for a balance. We are likely
to find ourselves bogged down in the Sargasso Sea of information overload and living
unconsciousness. It’s our spirit that makes the life meaningful.
Heart is the engine of body, brain is the resource of thought, and great films are the mirrors of
life. Indubitably, “Jane Eyre” is one of them.

Stories of Sherlock Holmes is the representative work of Arthur Conan Doyle.
Arthur Conan Doyle (22 May 1859~7 July 1930) was a Scottish Physician and writer,
and the detective Sherlock Holmes who created by Conan Doyle, generally
considered milestone in the field of crime fiction. Also, he has lots of works besides
the stories of Holmes, such as fantasy and science fiction, plays, romances, poetry,
non-fiction and historical novels. Once, he wanted to stop writing stories of Holmes,
so he wrote a story, in which Holmes died. To his surprise, the reaction of some
people was so serve. Some people came to Conan Doyle’s house in black clothing
which is used when a relative died, and asked for more stories. Because of this Conan
Doyle carried on writing the stories of Holmes.
Sherlock Holmes is a detective in the 19th century. He describes himself as a
“Consulting Detective” who is asked to solve the problems when others are stuck in it.
His abilities border on fantastic, he is famous for his astute logical reasoning, his
ability to adopt almost any details, and his use of forensic science skills to deal with
the difficult case.
In the Good English 9, Stories of Sherlock Holmes include 4
stories-------------The Boscombe Valley Mystery, The Adventure of the Blue
Carbuncle, The Adventure of Silver Blaze, and The adventure of the Copper Beeches.
As we all know, this kind of fiction is one of the most attractive kind novels. While I
was reading this book, I just couldn’t stop myself form reading it, as it’s so interesting.
In addition, after I finished reading this book, a keen interest of reading the original
work came to me.
As for my feeling, I was surprised by the knowledge Holmes has and his
intelligence brain. I hope I could use the knowledge I have as he did.
