Our sense of reality has been fla'ened by thirty-page abridgements.” "It is not difficult in such a world to get a person interested in the message of the Gospel; it is terrifically difficult to sustain the interest. Millions of people in our culture make decisions for Christ, but there is a dreadful a'ri5on rate...In our kind of culture anything, even news about God, can be sold if it is packaged freshly; but when it loses its novelty, it goes on the garbage heap.” “There is a great market for religious experience in our world; there is li'le enthusiasm for the pa5ent acquisi5on of virtue, li'le inclina5on to sign up for a long appren5ceship in what earlier genera5ons of Chris5ans called “holiness.” It seems that so many people start the journey with a great bolt of lightning which fades as quickly as the headlines in the morning newspaper.” How are you doing in your walk with Jesus? Are you tempted to treat Jesus as another consumer novelty that can be used when convenient and then cast aside? Or are you on A Long Walk of Obedience in the Same Direc on? Let us also be vigilant of trying to “consumerize” the Gospel in an a'empt to reach our materialis5c world, for that is like giving a sick child a sugar pill to cure polio. He will accept the sugar pill because it is sugar, but it will not help him, in fact it probably will only make him skep5cal of medicine. Indeed that is exactly how it appears; so many people want a sweet sugar pill from Jesus, that will magically make everything right. Jesus will make everything right, but not necessarily in this life and definitely not on any human's schedule. God is doing a mighty work in us, transforming His children into the image of His unique Son. God is the master-cra.sman who is forming and fashioning us according to His crea5ve genius. This “make-over” is a life-5me process and will not be completed un5l Jesus returns to take us home. • • • Cora Epperson has suffered a broken hip. Jane Mullins is recovering from outpa5ent surgery. Keep Joe Albri.on, David Herring, Misha Kimbell, Carolyn Miller and Lula Whi.le in your prayers. REMEMBERINPRAYER ANEWNAME When you visit a medical office for the first 5me, one of the first things you must do is answer several pages of ques5ons about your family history. There are ques5ons about your family history in general: What types of illnesses or diseases have been in your family? What is your rela5on to the person who experienced them? And then there are ques5ons about your own personal history: Have you ever had surgery? Do you smoke or drink? What illnesses have you had? By skillfully listening to your history, the physician is more equipped to treat you. Others are not. But all have had the stain of sin on their hearts. Your name has not just been your family name. It has been the name "sinner." "LusSul." "Covetous." "Liar." "Adulterer." But our Great Physician hears our story and knows how to treat us. He promised us, "To the one who conquers...I will give him a white stone, with a new name wri en on the stone" (Rev 2:17). God gives us a new name, a new character, a new life. Your name expresses who you are. No ma'er what your family history is and no ma'er what your personal history is, all who are in Jesus have the same name: "Forgiven." HISNEEDSHERNEEDS What a great group to work with and grow in our ability to meet the needs of our spouse in our “His Needs Her Needs” class. When you meet each other’s most important needs, you create and sustain a feeling of love for each other that is essen5al in a successful marriage. Spouses can learn to become each other’s source of greatest pleasure when they meet those needs for each other. Alice and I look forward to our 5me with you. Please share this informa5on and invite friends and family to a'end our class on Wednesday nights in rooms 27, 28.
