SPHERON® SO carbon black

PRODUCT DATA SHEET
SPHERON® SO carbon black
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The SPHERON® carbon black series have been specially developed by Cabot’s
Industrial Products business as part of Cabot’s ongoing commitment to address
market needs and promote solutions for future product design and processing
challenges.
SPHERON® SO carbon black conforms to ASTM N550 carbon black target values
and has high cleanliness and soft pellets for improved dispersion.
PERFORMANCE FEATURES
SPHERON SO carbon black is especially developed for extruded rubber
applications such as automotive weather stripping, hoses and profiles.
SPHERON SOA carbon black exhibits rubber reinforcement properties similar to
those of ASTM N550 carbon black, but imparts fewer visible imperfections on
the surfaces of extruded rubber parts. The improved cleanliness of SPHERON SO
carbon black can also contribute to a longer screen life (fewer screen changes)
and less wear on extruder barrel, screw and die from abrasion compared
to conventional ASTM carbon black products. SPHERON SO carbon black is
well-suited for industrial rubber applications which require good extrusion
characteristics and low hysteresis with more reinforcement than ASTM N700
and N600 type carbon black products.
TYPICAL APPLICATIONS
• Automotive weather stripping and door seals
• Extruded hoses and profiles
• Anti-vibration and other molded rubber parts
