AN ACT EXTENDING THE TIME WITHIN WHICH CERTAIN
SOLDIERS AND SAILORS AND THEIR WIVES, WIDOWS,
FATHERS OR MOTHERS MAY FILE APPLICATION FOR ABATEMENT OR EXEMPTION OF TAXES.
Be it enacted, etc., as follows:
Chapter 534 of the acts of 1949 is hereby amended by striking out
section 3, as most recently amended by chapter 35 of the acts of 1960,
and inserting in place thereof the following section: — Section 8. Application for abatement or exemption, as provided in sections one and two,
of taxes levied in the year nineteen hundred and sixty may be made
not later than October first, nineteen hundred and sixty-one, notwithstanding any provision of law to the contrary.

Chap. 10.
AN ACT DIRECTING THE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF
WORCESTER COUNTY TO MAKE CERTAIN EXPENDITURES
IN ANTICIPATION OF THE COUNTY APPROPRIATION ACT
FOR THE CURRENT YEAR FOR THE PURPOSE OF EFFECTING
ADJUSTMENTS IN THE SALARIES OF CERTAIN DISTRICT
COURT JUSTICES.
Be it enacted, etc.. as follows:
SECTION 1. Notwithstanding any contrary provision of chapter
thirty-five of the General Laws, the county commissioners of Worcester
county, shall, on and after January first in the current year, expend
from any available funds such sums as may be necessary to effect adjustments in the salary of the justice of the second district court of southern
Worcester, the justice of the third district court of southern Worcester
and the justice of the second district court of eastern Worcester, as
provided in chapters seven hundred and five, seven hundred and fortysix and seven hundred and ninety-six of the acts of nineteen hundred
and sixty, respectively, and any money so expended shall be included
in the appropriation for the current year for said county.
SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon its passage.

Chap. 11.
AN ACT AUTHORIZING THE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF
MIDDLESEX COUNTY TO MAKE CERTAIN EXPENDITURES
IN ANTICIPATION OF THE COUNTY APPROPRIATION ACT
FOR THE CURRENT YEAR FOR THE PURPOSE OF EFFECTING
AN ADJUSTMENT IN THE SALARY OF THE JUSTICE OF THE
DISTRICT COURT OF MARLBOROUGH.
Be it enacted, etc., as follows:
SECTION 1. Notwithstanding any contrary provision of chapter
thirty-five of the General Laws, the county commissioners of Middlesex
county may, on and after January first in the current year, expend
from any available funds such sums as may be necessary to effect an
adjustment in the salary of the justice of the district court of Marlborough, as provided in chapter seven hundred and forty-five of the

acts of nineteen hundred and sixty, and any money so expended shall
be included in the appropriation for the current year for said county.
SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon its passage.

C h a p . 12.
AN
A C T INCREASING THE AMOUNT AND TEEM OF INDEBT-
E D N E S S A CITY OB TOWN MAY INCUR FOR HOUSING, REDEVELOPMENT AND RENEWAL PROJECTS.
Be it enacted, etc., as follows:
Section 26CC of chapter 121 of the General Laws, as most recently
amended by section 2 of chapter 613 of the acts of 1957, is hereby
further amended by striking out the second sentence and inserting in
place thereof the following sentence: — Such debt may be outside the
limit of indebtedness prescribed in section ten of chapter forty-four,
and shall be payable within twenty years and otherwise subject to sections sixteen to twenty-seven, inclusive, of said chapter forty-four;
provided, that the total amount of such indebtedness of any city or town
outstanding at any one time shall not exceed two and one-half per cent
of the average of the assessors' valuations of its taxable property for the
three preceding years, reduced and otherwise determined as provided
in section ten of chapter forty-four.

Chap. 13.
A N ACT FURTHER REGULATING THE USE OF FUNDS
RECEIVED BY THE CITY OF BOSTON THROUGH ITS MAINTENANCE OF CEMETERIES.
Be it enacted, etc., as follows:
SECTION 1. The city of Boston, acting by its collector-treasurer,
shall set up and maintain as a fund, separate from all other money and
accounts of said city, all sums hereafter received by the city in the
management of cemeteries owned by it or in its charge, excluding
deposits for perpetual care but including proceeds from the sales of lots
or rights of burial, charges paid for the opening of graves, the construction of monument foundations, and the use of cemetery facilities and
devices, and interest and income from the investment of said fund.
Said fund shall be placed at interest or invested by said collectortreasurer in conformity with section fifty-four of chapter forty-four of
the General Laws notwithstanding the provisions of the last sentence
thereof. Said city, acting as aforesaid, shall forthwith transfer to said
fund all moneys now held under chapter one hundred and seventeen
of the acts of nineteen hundred and thirteen, including all unappropriated income therefrom. Annually or oftener sums may be appropriated out of said fund pursuant to the provisions of section three of
chapter four hundred and eighty-six of the acts of nineteen hundred and
nine to defray in whole or in part so much of the expenses of maintaining,
improving and embellishing said cemeteries as is not met by the income
of deposits for perpetual care.
SECTION 2. Chapter one hundred and seventeen of the acts of nineteen hundred and thirteen is hereby repealed.
SECTION 3. This act shall take effect upon its acceptance by vote
of the city council of said city, subject to the provisions of its charter.
