PASS THE PAW PACKET Organization & University Housing Competition 1 Dear Student Organization & University Housing Student Housing Community Representative, The 2017 Homecoming Executive Council with the support of the Jaguar Production Crew is excited to present Augusta University Homecoming 2017,Welcome to the Jungle. The 2017 Augusta University Homecoming will be celebrated from Monday, February 13 through Saturday, February 18, 2017. The week will offer many events for everyone to celebrate Augusta University beginning with Wear Blue, Get Food where students will have the opportunity to wear blue to show school spirit and enjoy a free meal with friend on February 13th from 11-1pm. The Augusta University Basketball game vs. Lander University will end Homecoming 2017 on Saturday, February 18th, 2017. The 2017 Homecoming Executive Council invites organizations and students living in University Housing to participate in the all events that have been planned. The events have been formed into a friendly competition, entitled the Pass the Paw competition, with two categories for specific campus populations: 1. Student Organizations 2. Student Housing Communities All the events of Pass the Paw are included in the subsequent parts of the packet, all participating groups will be asked to designate one representative for all mandatory meetings as well as point of communication. However, the content of this packet should be shared with students involved as well. To enter into Pass the Paw, each Student Organization/Student Housing Community will need to submit an Entry Form online at via the Homecoming Website by Thursday, January 26, 2017 at 4:00 PM. On the form you will need to indicate the representative, as well as the activities/events that you will be participating in throughout Homecoming. Student Organization: We will have a Pass the Paw Mandatory Student Organization Meeting which will take place on Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at 7:00 PM in the Hardy Meeting Room, 2nd Floor of the JSAC. At this meeting the Pass the Paw Director will explain all components of Pass the Paw in further detail and answer any questions you may have. Student Housing Community: We will have a Pass the Paw Mandatory Student Housing Community Meeting which will take place at a spring semester staff meeting. At this meeting the Pass the Paw Director will explain all components of Pass the Paw in further detail and answer any questions you may have. All decisions made by the Homecoming Executive Council are final. *If any competitor arrives more than 15 minutes past the time designated in this packet, 10 points will be automatically reduced from the participation points from the individuals or groups overall score. All Homecoming events are ALCOHOL AND ILLEGAL SUBSTANCE FREE! If any individual including someone in your organization brings alcohol to/appears to be under the influence at ANY Homecoming event/activity, your organization will be DISQUALIFIED FROM ALL OF HOMECOMING AND THAT INDIVIDUAL WILL BE ESCORTED OUT OF THE EVENT. 3 HOMECOMING AMBASSADOR PROGRAM INFORMATION You must be available to meet on Thursday, February 2, 2017 at 7:00 PM in Butler Meeting Room on the 2nd floor of the JSAC for the Mandatory Ambassador Meeting. Homecoming Ambassador Criteria: ● You must post on social media and other forms of marketing at least 6 times a week to promote homecoming week and activities from the meeting until Homecoming Week ends. ● You must volunteer at least two (2) event during Homecoming, there will be sign-ups at the Mandatory Ambassador Meeting. Organization Participation Points: Each member from a student organization who: ● Registers through the Homecoming Ambassador application ● Attends the Mandatory Ambassador Meeting ● Volunteers for their Homecoming shift ● Actively posts about Homecoming events during and before Homecoming Week will receive two points toward their organization during the Pass the Paw Competition, with a maximum of ten points per Student Organization in this category. (2 points) x (5 Homecoming Ambassadors) = 10 Pass the Paw Points! On the Pass the Paw Application, Student Organization Representatives must list up to five Homecoming Ambassadors who have already filled out an application for the Ambassador Program. WHAT IS THE HOMECOMING BANNER CONTEST? The Homecoming Banner Contest is an opportunity for organizations/student housing to celebrate Homecoming by creating banners which flaunt the spirit of Homecoming 2017 and showcase their artistic talent. This year’s banner contest gives Pass the Paw competitors the opportunity to create a banner based around the overall theme, Augusta University Homecoming 2017: Welcome to the Jungle! Sunday, February 12th ● Banners Hung by staff in the appropriate locations. Car Chalking is a way to help advertise the upcoming week to the rest of the campus body. As well for the candidates and organizations competing to gain extra points, and candidates competing to gain extra points towards their candidacy. It gives the opportunity to the students of Augusta University to go downtown and experience a different part of town other than campus. There are going to be vendors from stores from the downtown area as well as local restaurants with samples of some of their top foods to lure students to their restaurants to eat. Organizations/student housing communities that table during this event will receive 5 bonus points. 13 JAGUAR MANIA: Step and Dance Show (Produced by Jaguar Production Crew) AUGUSTA UNIVERSITY HOMECOMING 2017 WHEN: Friday, February 17, 2017 WHERE: Maxwell Theater (Summerville Campus) IME: 7:00-9:00 PM T Doors Open at 6:30 PM WHAT IS JAGUAR MANIA: Step and Dance Show? It’s the tradition for Augusta University Homecoming, the Annual Step and Dance Show! Located at the Maxwell Theater, the Step and Dance Show is theatrical entertainment consisting of successive dancing and stepping routines. The Step and Dance Show showcases students’ talent in two different categories: Dance: A series of movements or a sequence that match the speed and rhythm of music. Step: A percussive dance in which the participant's entire body is used as an instrument to produce complex rhythms and sounds through a mixture of footsteps, spoken word, and hand claps. Each act will be based on a theme that relates to Homecoming. In the event of a tie with the judges, the audience will be the deciding vote. IMPORTANT DATES/DETAILS: Wednesday, February 8th: ● Pre-Recorded Single Track MP3 are due by 12:00 PM via email to Garrett Green ([email protected]). ○ The MP3 File must only have the one track so that it may be added to an iPod. Wednesday, February 15th: ● Step and Dance Show Rehearsal is from 6:30-9:00 PM in the Maxwell Theater, and is required for all performers ○ All performers should plan to attend a 30-minute briefing at 6:30pm prior to rehearsal starting. ○ This will be a closed door rehearsal and times will be selected at the Mandatory Candidate/Organization Meetings. 14 Friday, February 17th: ● All Performers MUST arrive by 5:30 PM to review performance order and discuss other event details. Augusta University Homecoming Court Candidates are allowed to participate with a Pass the Paw participant if they are a member of that organization/Student Housing Community. The Candidate must participate on stage for the entire performance to receive participation points. a. If an Augusta University Homecoming Court Candidate does not have a group participating through Pass the Paw, they must develop their own group. 2. Groups must be comprised of at least three performers. 3. No more than 12 individuals will be allowed to perform on the stage at one time. This does not include transitions (For each additional performer on stage over 12 will be a two (2) point deduction from the total score.) 4. The act must be set-up, performed, and torn down within 15 minutes. Therefore, it is important that each group time their performance from start to finish prior to the show.(Each 30 seconds over will be a two (2) point deduction from total score.) 5. No flips of any kind are allowed. If anyone performing attempts any flip of any kind, the group will be DISQUALIFIED from this event. 6. Props must not exceed six (6) feet in height and must have the organization's name on EVERY PROP. (For each prop over six (6) feet in height, thrown into the audience, or any props left after the event will result in two (2) points deducted for each prop from the total score.) 7. Once your group’s performance is complete, nothing may be left anywhere near the performance area. (Any item left in the performance area will result in two (2) points deducted for each item.) 8. Each group MUST refrain from the use of vulgar, demeaning, racially offensive, sexual, or provocative content in their skit. The content of ALL acts will be at the discretion of the Jaguar Production Crew and anything offensive or tasteless will result in that group being DISQUALIFIED from this event. 9. All performers/groups MUST follow guidelines set forth by the event space. 10. ALL GREEK PERFORMERS/GROUPS MUST PARTICIPATE IN THE STEP CATEGORY. 16
