Recently my wife Merridie and I made the decision
to include a gift to World Vision in our Wills.
It was an important decision, but one that was easy
to make. That’s because we’ve both had the enormous
privilege of seeing firsthand the power of World Vision’s
life-changing work in the world’s poorest communities.
We’ve seen the joy that learning can bring to a child
who’s been deprived of the chance to go to school.
And we’ve seen immense pride in the eyes of once
struggling parents who have gained the skills to meet
their children’s needs. These are experiences we’ll
never forget.
Including a gift to World Vision in our Wills is a
meaningful way for us to pursue our vision for a
better world. To know that we’ll be supporting lasting
change across the generations fills us with great hope.
I invite you to join us. Your gift will indeed make a
difference and your kindness will help to unlock the
unlimited potential of tomorrow’s child.

How your gift can help
tomorrow’s child
By including a gift for World Vision in your
Will, you can make a life-changing difference
for tomorrow’s child.
from the burden of illness and wasted hours
searching for water, so they have more time
and energy to focus on learning.
Your gift will be used to support World Vision
programs both overseas and in Indigenous
Australian communities that enable every child
to experience life in all its fullness.
Or it might support our work to help families
improve their incomes through agriculture or
small business, so they can save for the future
and better provide for their children’s healthcare
and education.
It will help to provide children living in the
world’s poorest places with access to essentials,
like healthcare and education, and with
opportunities to create a better future for
themselves and their communities.
For example, your gift may support our work to
improve access to clean water, improved sanitation
and hygiene education. This helps to free children

Today’s gift for tomorrow’s needs
As our work changes over time, we ask that you
keep the wording in your Will about your gift
to World Vision quite general. In this way we
can direct your gift towards the children and
communities who need our help the most.
See pages 11-12 for suggested wording.

How our work
transforms children’s lives
We know that the most effective way to transform
children’s lives is to transform the world in which
they live – their family, community and local area.
Our ultimate goal is for all children to enjoy good
health, access education, and be cared for, protected
and participating in decisions that affect their lives.
Working alongside communities
We work closely with communities on long-term,
though finite projects. From the beginning we
focus on equipping communities to lead their
own development.
We work with local leaders and a wide range of
community groups and organisations in ways that
strengthen them so they can ensure child wellbeing
long after we leave.
None of this work would be possible without
the generous, ongoing support of compassionate
Australians like you who share our vision for a
world where all children thrive.
How your gift
will be used
We will use your gift wisely and cost effectively so
that it has the greatest impact for the people we serve.
For over 60 years we’ve worked hard to make sure
that all resources entrusted to us are managed and
accounted for to the highest standards of integrity
and transparency.

Working with
communities
to improve
child wellbeing
Your gift will support our work to empower
communities to make long-term improvements
to child wellbeing. The work we do with each
community is determined by their priorities.
Currently, this may include any or all of the
following focus areas.
Water and sanitation
By improving access to clean
water, toilets and hygiene
education, health improves.
Children and women have
more time for learning and
family care because they don’t
have to walk long distances to
collect water.
Food and
environment
Economic
development
When families can sustainably
grow enough food to meet
their household needs and sell
surplus produce for income,
they can meet their children’s
nutrition needs and cover their
healthcare and education costs.
By supporting communities
to grow small businesses,
improve farming methods,
and form savings and loans
groups, parents are better
placed to provide for their
children’s needs and save
for the future.
Health
Education
By focusing on prevention
strategies and access to health
and nutrition services for
mothers, infants and children,
we help to ensure children’s
survival and protect them
from disease and ill health
so they can reach their
full potential.
By increasing access to
education, children gain
the knowledge and skills
they need to live healthy
and productive lives, earn
an income in adulthood
and contribute to the
wellbeing of their families
and communities.
Disaster risk
reduction
Child protection
By equipping communities to
reduce environmental hazards
and prepare for disasters, they
can better protect lives and
livelihoods against events
like drought, floods and
cyclones and build resilience
to unforseen setbacks.
When communities are
empowered to prevent
and respond to child abuse,
exploitation and neglect and
when children learn how to
protect themselves, children
can grow up safe and exercise
their rights.

Knowledge makes
a world of difference
The story of Huyen and Trinh (pictured) and
their mother Chuong shows the difference that
gifts like yours can make for children in need.
After her husband died from pneumonia, Chuong
was forced to work as a hired hand and to beg
from her neighbours, just to provide her children
with the most basic of meals.
But after joining a World Vision-supported
nutrition club in her remote Vietnamese
community, Chuong was able to turn her
family’s desperate situation around. Alongside
other mothers and caregivers from her village,
Chuong learned about child health and nutrition
and received support to improve her rice growing
and start raising pigs for income.
The breeding sow she nurtured with her new
skills produced 11 piglets from her first litter.
Chuong was able to sell the piglets and make
enough income to feed and clothe her children
and cover their school costs. She also had
money left over to invest back into her pigraising business.
“I am thankful to World Vision for helping me
to gain a living and make more food, more
health and more education for my children,”
Chuong said.
Now Huyen and Trinh, both in primary
school, can follow their dream of completing
their education and becoming teachers in their
home village.
Gifts like yours will help to equip communities
– and parents like Chuong – to create a brighter
future for tomorrow’s child.

Suggested wording
for your Will
Wills can be complex and there are many ways of
including a gift in your Will. We cannot provide
you with legal advice, so please make sure you
obtain your own independent advice on the most
appropriate wording.
Here are some examples of wording you might like to
consider when you are preparing or amending your Will.
1. If you wish to leave a specific gift
A specific gift is a particular amount of money or item(s)
of property (for example, a house, shares, artwork, etc).
You can direct your specific gift to be used for different
purposes. We suggest that you do not describe the
purposes in too limited or narrow wording; please
consider whether it would be possible or easy for us to
fulfil your wishes. Popular purposes (and ones we can
easily fulfil) are: for general purposes of World Vision
Australia, or for projects funded through our child
sponsorship program or equivalent successor program.
a) For general support of World Vision Australia
For a gift of money:
“I give [the sum of $......... or .........%*] of my estate,
free of all duties, to World Vision Australia for its
general purposes.”
11
Rajvind, India
For a gift of property:
2. If you wish to leave a residuary gift
“I give [insert description of property], free of
all duties, to World Vision Australia for its
general purposes.”
A residuary gift is one where you give a portion or all of what is
left in your estate after specific gifts (for example to family and
friends) and taxes and debts are fulfilled.
b) To child sponsorship
For a gift of money:
“I give [the sum of $......... or .........%*] of my estate,
free of all duties, to World Vision Australia to be
applied towards programs of World Vision Australia
which are funded through its child sponsorship or
equivalent successor program.”
You can direct your residuary gift to be used for different purposes
in the same way that you can direct your specific gift (see previous
page). For example, you can say your residuary gift will be for
general support of World Vision Australia, or to support our
child sponsorship program.
To achieve this, we advise you to use our suggested wording for a
specific gift, but to replace the words “I give the sum of $......... or
.........%* of my estate to World Vision Australia” with the following:
For a gift of property:
“I give the rest and residue of my estate to World Vision Australia...”
“I give [insert description of property], free of all
duties, to World Vision Australia to be applied
towards programs of World Vision Australia
which are funded through its child sponsorship
or equivalent successor program.”
For example: “I give the rest and residue of my estate, free of all
duties, to World Vision Australia for its general purposes.”
If you would like to leave a gift to continue your
existing child sponsorship, it is important that
you contact your World Vision Relationship
Manager, whose details are included on the
welcome letter included in this pack. He or she
can advise you on this.
If World Vision Australia is not the only residual beneficiary, but
one of two or more to share equally, you could use this wording:
“I give the rest and residue of my estate, free of all duties, to
World Vision Australia and to [insert name of other residual
beneficiaries] in equal shares for their general purposes.”
Please contact your World Vision Relationship Manager for
more detailed information about leaving us a gift in your Will.
* Choose either a dollar or percentage amount.

Meet our Visionaries
By including a gift to World Vision in your Will you’ll become part of a special group
of people we call our Visionaries.
As a Visionary, you’ll be invited to attend special events during the year where you
can gain an insider’s view of our work, meet our development experts and share your
passion and stories with like-minded supporters.
Here, we profile Visionaries David Gibbs and Hazel Baker, who both have committed
to making a life-changing difference for tomorrow’s child.
Gift of a lifetime
Hazel Baker has been giving the gift of child sponsorship to
children in need for 40 years. Today, she’s sponsoring her
sixth child and has also included World Vision in her Will.
While Hazel understands the need for holistic development,
she sees improvements in water as key to creating selfsufficiency in the communities where World Vision works.
“One of the things that makes it easier is water. [With] young
children, they have to go and walk a couple of miles to get water
before they can go to school … I think water is the main item …
[People] can’t even grow food without it.”
Hazel Baker
13
Hazel says her decision to include World Vision in her Will is
because she can see the difference it makes. “… I could see they
were helping [people in these] countries,” Hazel says. Her hope
for the gift she’s included for World Vision in her Will is that
it will “carry on doing the same” for children in need.
Giving back
As an advertising and marketing executive for many years,
David Gibbs’ career has taken him throughout Australia
and also to New Zealand and America, as he helped grow
his organisation to become one of the biggest out-of-home
media companies in these countries.
You’ll find these billboards and display advertising in
universities, airports, and of course, shopping centres –
which is also where he signed up for his first World Vision
sponsored child 10 years ago.
David’s child sponsorships have had such an impact on him
that he’s included World Vision in his Will and as part of his
legacy for the future.
“I suppose it’s the whole process of putting a Will together …
and then thinking about how you want to distribute your
funds,” David explains. “There’s a connection having sponsored
children or sponsored communities. They form part of an
extended family and so you could consider them as part of
your legacy … even though you don’t see them on a regular
basis, they’re still there.”
David Gibbs

Why is having a Will so important?
Everyone should have a Will. It ensures that the
distribution of your assets is carried out in the way
you want, and provides for the people and issues
you care about.
How do I prepare my Will?
The most vital part of having a Will is to ensure it’s
valid. So it’s a good idea to seek legal advice. Having a
solicitor or trustee company assist you in writing your
Will can help ensure the required legal processes are
followed, in line with your wishes.
When writing your Will it’s important that you consider
the needs of your family and dependents, and let them
know about decisions that affect them – including if
you decide to leave a gift to World Vision.
How do I leave a gift to World Vision
in my Will?
Frequently
asked questions
Leaving a gift to World Vision Australia in your Will
is a way that you can make a life-changing difference
for tomorrow’s child and realise your vision for a
better world.
If you include World Vision in your Will, it is important
to ensure that the wording is legally correct. You may
want to talk to your solicitor or trustee, as well as your
local World Vision Relationship Manager. For suggested
wording, please refer to pages 11-12 in this guide or
visit our website.
When is the right time to write a Will?
If you do not have a Will, it is advisable to write one
as soon as possible. It is also important to update your
Will when your circumstances change – for example
if you get married, have children or buy property.
Do I need assistance to write a Will?
We suggest you use the services of a solicitor or trustee
company to ensure your Will is legally sound. A solicitor
can also advise you on matters such as guardians, asset
valuation and power of attorney.
How can my gift support child
sponsorship if I am no longer here?
Contributions made through child sponsorship
fund community-based development activities
which are designed to bring about long-term
sustainable improvements for children, families and
their communities. As funds go toward supporting
projects rather than just the needs of specific children,
a gift in your Will to our child sponsorship program
can help World Vision continue this important work
with communities in need.
Your gift can be directed to child sponsorship programs
more generally or to completing the life-cycle of
sponsorship for your existing sponsored child and their
community. For more information, please contact your
local World Vision Relationship Manager.
If I include World Vision in my Will
do I need to let you know?
It is your decision; however by letting us know about
your gift you will help us plan better for the future.
If you would like to let us know of your decision to
include World Vision Australia in your Will, please call
1300 303 440 or email [email protected].

Say you’ll help
tomorrow’s child
If you are considering leaving a gift to
World Vision in your Will, the next step
would be to speak to your legal advisor.
Together, you could look at either preparing
your Will for the first time or making a
codicil (an addition or change) to include
World Vision in your existing Will.
If you would like to speak to someone from
World Vision, please see our contact details
on the next page. We would love to hear
from you.
Please let us know about your gift
We would also like to know if you have
included World Vision in your Will. While
an unexpected gift is always a nice surprise,
you’ll be helping World Vision even more
if you inform us of your intentions. Not only
does this help us plan for the future, it allows
us to thank you and share with you our longterm plans.
Thank you for making a world of difference
for children and communities in need.
