Summer swim lessons for schools 2010

Water Safety Week - Sponsored by Wendy’s
4 days of FREE swim instruction to all youth ages 5-12 that do not know how to swim or float.
This class is for beginners to help them feel more at ease and safe in and around the water.

Classes are 45 minutes longg and are limited to the first 35 pparticipants.

Parent/Child Swim Lessons
SKIP: (Shrimp, Kipper, Inia, Perch)-An introduction
to the aquatic Environment for parents and their
child. Parents accompany children in the water to
learn safe, fun practices in and around the water.
Age: 6-36 months
Times: 11:45am-12:15pm
1:55pm-2:25pm
Preschool Swim Lessons
Pike: This level helps children develop
safe pool behavior, adjust to the water,
and develop independent movement in the
water. It is designed for new swimmers,
teaching basic paddle stroke and kicking
skills, pool safety, proper use of IFDs
and PFDs, and comfort with holding the
face in the water while blowing bubbles
and swimming. This 30 minute program
offers children their first experience in the
pool without parental assistance.
Age: 3-5
Times: 11:45-12:15 p.m; 1:55-2:25 p.m.
Youth Swim Lessons
Polliwog: This is the beginning level for schoolage children. It gets children acquainted with
the pool, the use of flotation devices, and floating.
By the end of this level
level, they should know the front
paddle stroke, and side and back paddle.
Ages: 6-11
Times: 10-10:45 a.m; 1-1:45 p.m; 2:30-3:15 pm; 4:15- 5 pm
Guppy: The children continue to practice and
build upon basic skills, now performing more skills
without the aid of a flotation device. They are
introduced to the front and back crawl, sidestroke,
breaststroke, and elementary backstroke. Children
can swim a length of the pool without assistance at

Ages: 6-11
Times: 10-10:45 a.m; 1-1:45 p.m; 2:30-3:15 pm; 4:15- 5 pm
Minnow: This is the initial intermediate level. The
children further refine the lead-up strokes they have
learned as their skills become more like those
normally used in swimming.

Teen Competitive Swimming
Is your child interested in swimming
competitively but hesitant to try it? If so, this
class is for them. Your child will build the
endurance

skills such as flip turns, proper competitive
stroke technique, and all the ins and outs of
swimming on a team. It's a great first step that
will help your child decide if competitive
swimming is right for him or her.
Ages: 12-17
Times: 4:15-5 p.m
Fish: At this level, students work to perform the
crawl stroke, elementary backstroke, back crawl
stroke, and side-stroke, with turns. They are

diving skills and continue learning personal safety,
boating, and rescue skills; they are introduced to the
use of a mask and fins.
Ages: 6-12
Times: 10:50-11:35 a.m; 3:20-4:05 p.m.
Flying Fish: At this advanced level, students work
on refining their strokes and increasing their
endurance. They develop the ability to perform more
complex combinations of synchronized swimming
and they also are introduced to the use of a snorkel.
They learn more about boating safety, personal
safety, and rescue procedures.
Ages: 6-12
Times: 10:50-11:35 a.m; 3:20-4:05 p.m.
Shark: The students at this level continue to
improve their strokes, with starts and turns, and are
introduced to the inverted breaststroke, the trudgen
crawl, and the over arm stroke. Opportunities are
provided for further work on synchronized
swimming, wetball, and snorkeling, as well as
personal safety, boating, safety, and rescue skills.
