Parish Nursing:
Help for Physical & Spiritual Health

Parish Nurse Coordinator
serving Lincoln County
Have you ever had a question about your health or that
of a loved one but couldn’t
call your doctor because it was
a weekend and the office was
closed? You wished you had
someone to talk with; someone
who had professional knowledge about health and wellness. Maybe your Doctor pre-
scribed some new medication
for you recently, but after you
left the office and got home
you couldn’t quite remember
what pill was for what problem. Maybe you’ve just had a
new baby and you sure could
use some extra professional
advice on baby care. If you’ve
ever wondered about diabetes, asthma, parkinson’s or

Nurses (sometimes called
Parish Nurses) are Registered
Nurses (R.N.’s) who take
specialized course work in
order to minister to people
in their Faith Communities.
Faith Community Nurses do
not provide “hands on” nursing or duplicate other nursing
or medical services, but they
are able to provide that link
between the faith world and
the medical world. A Faith
Community Nurse works
within his or her own Faith
Community, and yet reaches
out to those in their local
geographical communities as
well. Faith Community Nurses
minister to the whole person –
body, mind, and spirit. They
bring their compassion, education, and expertise in order
to accomplish this role.

I stepped out of the house
on a Monday morning, hands
loaded with stuff, and ready
to go to work.
It had just begun to
downpour. The rain was
coming down hard. So I
paused on the porch, knowing that it would probably
let up in a moment or two.
And as I paused, I listened.
It was awesome. A unique
God song. Rain on the tin
roof. Rain through the big
cedar trees. Splashing off the
road. What could have been
a blood pressure raiser turned
into a moment of peace and
pleasure.
I could have chosen to

every moment,
is’nt it? Do
we choose to
stand or sit?
To work or rest? To pick up
the remote, or pick up His
book? To fight or flight? To
trust in our emotions or trust
in God and His Word?
I don’t always make the
right choices, and I’m sure no
one does, but we do get better
the longer we practice at it.
We have been engaged in a
lot recently. The enemy seems
active, aiming

silent auction/chili feed held at
the Little Chief Restaurant for
the kid’s choir, I felt a freedom to
select one of Mom’s paintings.
My husband Scott was amazed
that I would even consider it.
I shared with my local sister,
and she was also supportive.
So, the painting you see here,
“Drift Fishing” (so “Siletz-y”,I
thought), was put on a table top
easel at the auction, with a little
information about Mom.
I was thrilled that dear friends,
LaRita and Dan Lundy, looked
like they would be the ones to
take the painting home, having
placed a bid. Just before the
auction closed, a woman came
in and asked for an order of biscuits and gravy from the regular
restaurant menu, unaware that
we were having a chili feed. So,
chili it was. She had spotted the
painting earlier, and was disappointed that the auction papers
were being gathered up. LaRita
graciously let her bid anyway.
Barbara made the winning bid!
She explained that her husband
had passed away just six months
ago, and river fishing is what
they did together, so she was
deeply touched. She returned a
little later with cash in hand, and
in tears gave me a big hug and
kiss on the cheek. This brought
tears to me. Barbara said, “The
only thing wrong with this painting is that I am not in the boat
with him”. I tried to console her,
with “... he is waiting for you!”.
So, you see you don’t know
when God is going to do something; to perhaps release you
in an area of life. And, with
God behind the do-ing, you (and
someone else!) can be blessed.
Jesus said, “You did not choose
Me, but I chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit--fruit that will last. Then the
Father will give you whatever
you ask in My name. This is My
command: Love each other”.

Christ’s life on
earth serves
as an ideal of
how we are
to treat every
individual on
our team, and
focusing on
him is crucial
because we are
prone to forget
that an athletic
team is made
up of more
than the stars.
Each member is important.
Anyone choosing to be
part of a team must accept
responsibility to build up and
encourage everyone. Let’s be
careful to not focus on the
stars. Sometimes a simple
pat on the back is all it
takes to show we care. Jesus
reaches for us
before we even
ask. Aren’t we
to do the same?
Yes, we are
to follow His
example and
show compassion for all of
our
players.
Jesus loves us,
and we should
do the same for
others.
The reason
we are given
talents is for the glory of
God. That means each person is uniquely designed to
glorify God in a special way.
This truth helps us remember
that everyone on the team
has a contribution to make
and is therefore worthy of
our attention.
Are we teaching our athletes to encourage one another by our personal example?
How do we view the members of our team?
Lord help me appreciate
every member of my team
(church). Help me make them
feel important and needed to
make our team complete. I
pray that others will always
see You in our behavior.
“Now finally, all of you
should be like-minded and
sympathetic, should love
believers, and be compassionate and humble, not
paying back evil for evil or
insult for insult but, on the
contrary, giving a blessing,
since you were called for
this, so that you can inherit a
blessing.” I Peter 3:8-9

this was done.
Eventually she was found and
returned home. She went on to
testify that her homelife became
very hard because her dad became
alcoholic and abusive. At 15 she left
home, never to return.
She spoke of how deep hurts can
lead to bitterness. Rita went on to
say that bitterness ruins every part of
a person’s life, to the point of nearly
no return. Then, she spoke of the
power of God through Jesus Christ
and how He turned her life around
and gave her hope and strength.
The teaching was powerful and
full of the hope in Jesus Christ.
She now teaches and works as an
alcohol and drug counselor. She is
a minister in her own right. She is a
blessing from Creator God.
Her message in a nutshell? We
can forgive and rebuild through the
power of Jesus, the Son of our
Creator. If you are bitter? Go to the
Cross and get better. This can only
be accomplished by going to the
source—Yeshua, Jesus.
I have experienced this in my
life. So can you. Be blessed.

Dios es amor.
The Word teaches us to love
our neighbor and pray for our
enemies. It also says that within
our powers that we should be at
peace w/ everybody. Planning
evil against your neighbor is
not from God, but from the
devil. The Bible also teaches
us that whoever is in God will
love for God is love.

“The curse of the Lord is in
the house of the wicked” Prov.
3:33-35
The Law/Word teaches us
that God puts before us the
blessing and curse and we need
to decide which one we want.
If we keep His Word, then our
homes will be filled with his
blessings. He that rejects the
Word of God is opening the
door for the curse to come into
their home. Today the Lord is
giving the opportunity to bring
home the blessings and your
loved ones.

Returning my box of
scarecrows, pumpkins,
and fall leaves back up
to the attic, I counted 6
boxes of Christmas decorations awaiting their
turn to come downstairs.
But first, of course, is
Thanksgiving. Yes, the
time of year we count
our blessings while making a Mayflower out of
a crooked squash for the
center of the table and
stuffing the bird and ourselves. The holidays truly
are joyous. I bask in the pleasure of those sights, sounds,
and smells during this special
season, don’t you?
This year will be a little different for me. Although I just
turned 80, and although I’ve
been a born-again believer since
the age of 3 or 4 when I prayed
a simplified “sinners’ prayer”
at my mother’s knee, I must
confess I’m a late bloomer in
some things spiritual. Although
I could recite John 3:16 from
the get-go, and I knew I would
go to heaven when I died;
although I prayed and read my
Bible every day after a Sunday
School teacher taught that practice, and although I’ve taught
Sunday School and been part
of Prison Fellowship for twenty
years, and, and…
Hey, do I sound like the rich
young ruler here? But from this
vantage point, I realize a central
principle of Christianity has

Messenger Ministries
Hello Brothers and Sisters.
LaRita and I, along with Bob
and Meg Ledbetter, attended
the Answer By Fire Gathering
in Eugene, Oregon on Saturday,
November 1. It actually started
on Friday but LaRita and I didn’t
make it. Bob and Meg did, however, and said the worship and
teaching was wonderful.
Some old friends you might
remember are: Rita Bear-Gray,
Lanny Harris, Deb Robinson and
Don and Mary Gentry. I could go
to great lengths to describe the
power in the worship with the
combined instruments, drums and
voices. But I won’t. I want to talk
about the teaching that Rita BearGray taught. I will paraphrase her
and encapsulate the message so
you don’t have to read half the
night to get through this article.
She started out with prayer.
Nothing unusual in that, right?
Then she went into a short testimony about her early life. She
was born in a remote village in
northern Canada where her father
was a trapper. They were poor and
so remote that they didn’t have
electricity or running water. Their
heat was wood that they cut in
the summer and burned all winter
long. Yes, they endured freezing
temperatures and snow for most
of the winter.
She told one particular story
about when her mother was eight
months pregnant with her. Her dad
was out on the trapline. The family ran out of food. Rita’s mother
left the other children at the cabin
and went toward the village to get
some food. She didn’t make it. A
pack of wolves chased her across
a frozen lake where she managed
(eight months pregnant) to climb
a tree. She stayed there all night.
Two trappers came along and
chased the wolves off and took
her to their cabin, warmed her up
and saved her life.
Rita went on to say that her
mother left when she (Rita) was
two years old. She just couldn’t
stand the wilderness lifestyle. So,
her father raised all the kids while
trapping and hunting for subsistence. It was a harsh life.
The authorities came occasionally, scooped up the Indian kids,
and took them to boarding schools
far away. Some kids were never
heard of again. So, her father took
them into the deeper wilderness
where they hunted, trapped and
lived off the land for several more
years.
Finally, when they moved back
closer to the village, Rita’s mom
came back and took her out of the
village and to another family. Rita
said she never understood why

been missing. In this past
year, previously skipped

glowing for me like neon
lights.
What have I missed?
Here’s the answer: the all
day, every day walk in the
Spirit. More specifically,
I’ve been parceling out my
days into “my time” and
“God’s time.” But wait!
If I am in union with the
Creator, as He so lavishly offers, then there’s no
divvying up, right? In fact
lately I cringe when I hear
folks say that God is a big
part of their lives. What’s that?
Only part? God is my life I’m
just grasping! … “it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives
in me; and the life which I now
live in the flesh I live by faith in
the Son of God….” Galatians
2:20. So that does away with
portion control. “This is your
time, Lord, now I get to do my
thing” has changed to His life
in me. I hope I’ll remember
and practice this new understanding daily.
Blessed Lord, sanctify your
Word to my heart, embedding
it permanently so I might walk
worthy of your calling. Amen.
Oh Glory! Happier Holidays

1) ¿Qué entiendes por la

What do understand by the

2) ¿Cuál es uno de los buenos consejos que has recibido

Do you remember a good

Introducción: Hoy miraremos algunos beneficios prácticos de guardar la ley de Dios
en nuestras vidas y sus consejos/ discreción (buena conducta).
Introduction: Today we
will be seeing a few practical
benefits in keeping the law of
God and his council/ discretation (good conduct).
tendremos muchos beneficios
los cuales miraremos en este
estudio.
Definition: The law of God:
Many people are afraid of this
word because they see it more
like condemnation and judgment instead of seeing it like
a blessing. This word in this
passage is the same word wisdom and in the case of the
knowledge of God He reveals
His wisdom thru His word the
Bible. In other words, keeping
the law is keeping the word.
So if we keep the Word/ Bible,
then we will have many bendefits which we will see in this
study.
Andarás por tu camino confiadamente” Prov. 3:23
“You shall walk in your way
safely” Prov. 3:23
La biblia dice que la palabra
de Dios es lámpara en nuestro
camino de tal manera que si
la guardamos y ponemos por
obra nos dará luz/ conocimiento y nos ayudara a no tropezar
en nuestro caminar de la vida.
The Bible says that the Word
of God is a lamp unto our path
in such a way that if we keep
it and practice it, it will bring
light/ knowledge into our lives
and it will help us from stubling
in our walk in life.
“Cuando te acuestes no tendrás temor” Prov. 3:24
“When you liest down, you
will not be afraid” Prov. 3:24
El Rey y escritor de algunos Salmos, David declaro
“En paz me acostare y así
mismo dormiré, porque solo
tú me haces vivir confiado”.
Hoy en día mucha gente que
no puede decir esto porque
están alejados de Dios y de su
palabra. Muchos necesitan de
medicamente para dormir unas
cuantas horas y sus sueños son
pesadillas. Si guardamos la
palabra de Dios, Dios guardara nuestro sueño, sueños y
nos hará vivir confiadamente.
King David who also wrote
some of the Psalms declared
“I will both lay me down in
peace, and sleep: for you oh
Lord make me dwell in safety”.
There is a lot of people that
cannot say those words because
they are far from God and His
Word. Many need medicine to
sleep a few hours and their
dreams turn into nightmares. If
we keep God’s Word, then He
will keep our sleep, dreams and
we will live in safety.
“No tendrás temor de pavor
repentino” Prov. 3:25
“Be not afraid of sudden Fear” Prov. 3:25
El temor es un espíritu que
ataca al ser humano especialmente los que no tienen a Dios
en su vida. La gente le teme a
lo desconocido, al futuro y su
imaginación lo traiciona para
pensar lo peor, pero cuando
guardamos la palabra de Dios
no tendremos temor alguno
porque sabemos que Dios está
de nuestro lado. La Biblia dice
que Dios es amor y también
dice que el perfecto amor hecha
fuera todo temor.
Fear is a spirit that attack
people especially those that do
not have God in their lives.
People fear the unknown, the
future and their imagination
doesnt help them because they
start thinking and imagining
the worst, but if we keep the
Word of God we will have no
fear because we will know that
God is on our side. The Bible
says that God is love and it also
states that perfect love cast out
fear.
No niegues hacer el bien a
quien es debido” Prov. 3:27
“Withhold not good to them
to whom it is due” Prov. 3:2728
The word of God teaches
us about sowing and reaping,
everything that a man’s sows,
this will he also reap. When
we see the need of somebody
(especially in the family of
God) & we have to give, we
must do it so that when it’s
time for us to receive there will
be people willing to help us
out too.
No intentes mal contra tu projimo Prov. 3:29-30
Devise not evil against your
neighbor
Prov.
3:29-30
La palabra nos manda a amar
a nuestro prójimo y orar por
nuestros enemigos. También
nos ensena que dentro de lo
que cabe debemos de estar en
paz con todos. El planear una
maldad contra tu prójimo no
es de Dios sino del diablo. La
Biblia también nos ensena que

Pulling Down Barriers
By Pam Carpenter,
Associate Pastor at
Lighthouse Vineyard
Fellowship in Newport
“Let us not grow tired of
doing good, for in due time we
shall reap our harvest, if we do
not give up. So then, while we
have the opportunity, let us
do good to all, but especially
to those who belong to the
family of the faith.” (Galatians
6:9,10 NASB)!
It seems to me that God
is encouraging us to pull
down the barriers that exist
Page 4
between us in the Body of
Christ: barriers of class,
denomination, and church
culture. We are one family, no
matter what denomination or
stream we are part of.
In this wonderful country, we have surpluses of
almost
everything.
We
can eat fruit no matter
what the season. We can
choose between a hundred kinds of cars or
shirts or movies. We are
used to expressing our individuality and defining ourselves
by our choices. One of those
choices is where and with
whom we worship, but
building
our
relationship with the family God
has given us is not like choosing a shirt or joining a gym.
This passage in Galatians
reminds us that our calling
includes doing good to the
family of the faith and we
aren’t to make the mistake
that this means only those in
our chosen group.
When we are born
into this fallen world, we
come into a family. We
don’t get to choose and
occasionally it feels like there
must have been some mistake,
but we trust that God ordained
that…our place in the world, our
natural gifts and weaknesses,
and our family. This is like the
canvas upon which we can paint
with the brush of faith and the
colors given by the Holy Spirit,
in the studio of the love of the
Father. We are free to create
this work of art using both the
things that naturally please
us and the things that look
like problems. Today God
is drawing us to join more
closely together with others,
The POST Puppy
to link arms, learn from each
other and celebrate God’s
grace together. We have a
high calling to encourage and
receive encouragement and
to bring God’s Kingdom to
earth. Every person has something to teach us and deserves
respect. Let’s tear down walls
in prayer and in action!
“And do not be conformed
to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your
mind, that you may prove
what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”
(Romans 12:2 NKJV)
‘Twas the evening of Oct.
31. I got to see our neighbors dressed like sharks,
and my family gave them
treats on our doorstep.
Then, my family left for
the evening. I get a little
huffy when they leave me.
Kelli had been baking a
pie, and had left out measuring cups, etc. I was
able to reach them, so was
hoping to soothe my feelers by having a bake-off.
But I couldn’t get to the
baking staples...and I even
knew Kelli had a package
of dark chocolate chips
in the cupboard! But my
family returned only to
curiously find plastic measuring cups on the living
room carpet.
So we all proceeded to
go to bed. I thought we
had bid good-bye to certain rodents out at the old
farm where we once lived.
But in the dark shadows of the night, a RAT
got in the house (after
chewing its way in behind
the washer and dryer). I
knew it wasn’t my buddy,
Ratatouille, whom I used
to cook with at the other
house. In this case, Tux
the cat knew what he had
to do. His 24/7 pest control business was tapped.
I am glad for cats, after
all; otherwise the stinker
rat could have chewed his
way into my food sack.
That really would’ve made
me huffy! “I knew You are
a gracious and compassionate God, slow to anger
and abounding in love, a
God who relents
from
sending
calamity”. (Jonah
4:2 & 3).
What is Winds of

O
ur primary goal is
to encourage people to worship God,
in the name of Jesus
Christ, every day, 24
hours a day. We do this
primarily through the
broadcast of contemporary (modern) praise
and worship music. We
have live DJs at specific
times throughout the
day. We have time available for the rebroadcast
of local church sermons
and Bible teachings. We
are not from any one
denomination, but work
with many people from
many Christian denominations and groups.

tradition, and is applicable to
all Faith Communities. The
role of the Faith Community
Nurse reclaims the historic
roots of health and healing
that is found in many religious traditions. Jesus healed
the “whole person” – body,
mind, and spirit. Deacons and
deaconesses carried on the
church’s mission of healing
in the early years, and during
the medieval age, the Church
was the vehicle in which healing could occur. Hospitals that
were built had connections
with churches. In 1984, The
Reverend Granger Westberg
approached Lutheran General
Health System in Illinois
with the idea of partnering with local churches in a
Parish Nurse project. Today,
an International Parish Nurse
Resource Center located in
the Church Health Center in
Memphis, Tennessee serves
Faith Community Nurses
throughout the world. In 1997,
Faith Community Nursing
was recognized as a Nursing
Specialty by the American
Nurses’ Association.
Recognizing that Faith
Community Nursing is a
Health Promotion, Disease
Prevention ministry with a
special emphasis on Spiritual
Care, all of the activities that a
Faith Community Nurse performs are derived from seven
functions. These are:
1. Integrator of Faith and Health
2. Personal Health Counselor
3. Health Educator
4. Trainer of Volunteers
5. Developer of Support Groups
6. Referral Agent
7. Health Advocate
I have always considered
that what I do is a calling. To
me, it is the best of both the
nursing and the faith worlds.
Both are intertwined together.
My faith is part of my wholeness which encompasses my
whole being-body, mind, and
spirit.
We have active Prayer Shawl
ministries at both SPCH and
SNLH. Once a few years ago
when I went to give a patient
in the hospital a Prayer Shawl
she didn’t want to receive it.
She told me that her cat would
tear it apart, and it was okay to
give it to someone else. When
I entered another patient’s
room with the same Prayer
Shawl (it was red in color)
and offered it to
another patient,
her response
was memorable.
After I told her
who I was and
that we would
like her to have
the shawl, she
told me that
her
husband
had just passed
away recently
and that his
favorite color
was red! God
knew that she
was supposed
to have that
shawl. There
are many, many stories about
Prayer Shawls that touch your
heart.
When, as a Faith Community
Nurse you are able to make
a difference; and they do it
all the time, you are fulfilling God’s call to health and
wholeness for that person.
When a Faith Community
Nurse calls the Dr. to make a
client an appointment because
they are having say a physical
problem, and the client sees
the Dr. and the problem is
taken care of, let’s say by an
antibiotic, or by changing a
S.U.R.F.’s UP! (Serving Up Righteous Faith)
medication, and that client is
helped just by those small but
significant nursing acts, it’s
a wonderful feeling knowing
you are assisting that client
on their journey to health and
wholeness. One aspect I really
like about Faith Community
Nursing is that it encompasses
the spiritual aspect of a person
also. FCN’s are able to pray
for and with their clients also.
We have several active
Faith Community Nurses
and Health Ministers serving in many faith communities in Lincoln County and
beyond. These nurses are able

When she opened her eyes
she was in her bedroom, lying
on her bed. She removed the
virtual reality connectors
from her temples and got up. She walked over to her
closet door and looked in the
mirror hanging there. She
gave herself one more lookover. White tennis shoes,
old blue jeans, solid black
tank-top, blue heart necklace
(given to her from Sean on
her last birthday), and long
curly red hair pulled up onto
a ponytail. She looked herself over again and sighed,
“So this is how I start eighth
grade.” She sighed again,
“Oh well.” JoAnna heard her
mother walking up the stairs
and grabbed her backpack. “JoAnna aren’t you ready
yet? The bus will be here
soon.” JoAnna and her mother
just about collided at JoAnna’s
door. She kissed her mom and
ran down the stairs.
“Just leaving now mom.
See you after school. Love
ya.”
“Love you too! Have a
good day at school.” Her
mom yelled after her just as
JoAnna went out the front
door.
JoAnna ran down the front
walk, turned, and ran toward
the bus where Sean was waiting. As she mounted the
bus the driver pointed at his
watch.
“Sorry. It won’t happen
again.” JoAnna said with a
remorseful look on her face.
Then she turned and followed
Sean to their regular seats;
right side, fourth from the
back. They sat down, looked
at each other, and started to
laugh.
“Man that was close. We
should probably think of a
different VR time, one that
doesn’t make us late for the
bus.” Sean looked around to
make sure that no one was
listening. Then he whispered,
“That way no one will be
suspicious. Especially our
parents.”
“No kidding. How about
tonight at nine o’clock?
That way we will have time
to finish our ‘first day of
school’ homework,” JoAnna
said while making quotation
marks with her fingers.
“Agreed. And this time you
won’t even make it out of the
to provide home and hospital visits, nursing home and
assisted living facility visits,
as well as accompany clients
when they see their doctor.
They are available for blood

“We’ll just see about that,”
JoAnna said with a mysterious gleam in her eyes.
The rest of the way to
school they talked about
their classes, what teachers
they were going to have, and
which friends were coming
back this year. The only thing
they weren’t looking forward to was Daniel Williams.
Daniel ‘Dead Meat’ Williams

He’s the biggest bully in the

What’s happening in and
around Newport reaching out
to teens.
“Iron sharpens iron, so
one man sharpens another.”
Proverbs 27:17
We were created to be in
relationships: Relationship
with God and each other. In
Genesis 2:18, God stated, “It
is not good for the man to
be alone.” We have families and friends to provide
encouragement, enjoyment,
accountability, and guidance
in our lives.
Having good friends to
hang out with is important at
any age (Psalms 26:4-5), but
especially to teens. Young
people need their parents to be
their primary source of support, acceptance, and direction in their lives; but during
the teen years, young people
increasingly depend on their
friends to determine many of
their decisions. Teens want
the freedom to have fun with
their friends without feeling
like they are being constantly supervised or preached
to. However, parents want
their children to have positive relationships and choose
appropriate activities that
will support their family’s
values (Proverbs 22:6)
GO B.I.G. Ministries
offers “HangTime” Events at
the House of Refuge (310A
Gilbert Way, Newport), a safe
neutral location for teens to
build positive relationships.
Young people have a place
in their community where
they can have something fun
to do with peers and adults
without having to engage in
negative behaviors (Proverbs
12:15). Unchurched youth or
those who would not normally attend “church” activities
where the gospel is presented
in a “program” type setting
have an opportunity to learn
about Christ through friendships with other teens and
adults who know Jesus as
Lord and Savior.
During HangTime, caring Christian adults from the
schools, community, churches, and ministry organizations
are encouraged to interact
with the teens as mentors and
friends rather than chaperones. They offer the support
teens need to succeed in life
(Ecclesiastes 4:9-10). These
adults spend time at school
interacting with kids during
lunch or at various school
sponsored activities, build-
ing relationships, and sharing
alternatives to the weekend
party scene. Adult participant, Robert Walsh, describes
HangTime as “a stepping
stone between the secular
community and YoungLife,
WyldLife, or local church
youth groups. We want kids
to have a place where they
feel comfortable to hangout,
witness, and develop relationships with those they
don’t feel would be receptive to an invitation to their
normal church activities.”
By “earning the right to be
heard” through relationship
building, students and adults
alike are able to share their
faith, encourage, and enable
young people to GO B.I.G.
(GO Believing In God) while
making healthy life decisions.
Twice
a
month,
“HangTime” offers a place
for students ages 13-19 to
expand their relationships
outside of their usual school
cliques in a safe, no pressure
environment on Saturdays
from 7:30pm-midnight (Bible
Study offered at 6:30-7:15).
Teens are free to drop-in anytime during the evening to
enjoy free food, games, movies, music, hot tub, bonfires,
weight lifting, or just hanging out relaxing with friends
in a comfortable, home-like
environment. Parents likewise can be assured their kids
are in an environment free
of drugs, alcohol, or inappropriate activities. During
November, HangTime occurs
on the 15th and 29th.
Volunteers are always
needed to pray, set-up, serve,
and clean up after our events.
If you would like more information about upcoming
HangTime Events, directions,
would like to volunteer as
a regular or periodic adult
mentor (no long term commitments required), or make
a donation to help support
these events please contact

Winter is coming, and fall is

nothing short of perfect. Keep in
mind when they mean revisited
it means more of a semi-acoustic
version, where there may be
other instruments besides acoustic guitar behind the softened
vocal deliveries. This review
also isn’t in chronological song
order, but instead it’s organized
by what albums the original
songs were on.
The Albatross came out in
2005 and while not completely
polished contains some of my
favorite songs of all time. In
“What Was Done, Vol.1” some
of those favorites of mine are
revisited and made acoustic
starting with “All the Memories
(Revisited)”. This revisiting of
“All the Memories” reminds me
why I love The Classic Crime
so much. They are able to change
the backbone of a previous song
and make it even better than
before. “We All Look Elsewhere
(Revisited)” is a stripped down
significantly and the addition
of strings gives a whole new
dimension to the song. “The
Coldest Heart (Revisited)” while
good, isn’t what you would
expect a semi-acoustic version
of the song to sound like. The
main problem I have with it is
the lack of change on the vocals
and percussion from the original.
“Who Needs Air (Acoustic)” is
the first strictly acoustic song
on the album and happens to be
my favorite Classic Crime song
ever made. I could sing the praises of this song with thousands
of words, but I’ll just say this;
“Who Needs Air (Acoustic)” is
one of the most beautiful songs
I have ever heard. The final
2 songs from The Albatross
are “Headlights (Acoustic)” and
“The Fight (Acoustic)”. Both of
these tracks are fantastic acoustic versions and definite highlights with the latter not even
sounding like the original.
The next album addressed is
2008’s “The Silver Cord”, but
only 2 tracks are revisited. “Salt
in The Snow”, and “God &
Drugs”. The former is exactly
what you’d expect it to sound
like if you loved the original
just as much as everyone else.
Beautiful and a guaranteed singalong track, with an incredible
ending. The original “God &
Drugs” is my favorite Classic
Crime track so I had high expectations going into this revisited
version, Needless to say, I was
not disappointed whatsoever.
In 2010 “Vagabonds” was
released with mixed reviews.
On “WWD Vol.1”, two of the
most polarizing songs on the
album are revisited. The first
being the title track, which ends
up being an incredible new version of the song and may change
people’s minds of the original
album. “My Name” is a weird
track because on “Vagabonds”
it already was a slower balladesque song. Thus, this revisited
version isn’t much different, but
still feels fresh.
Finally, in 2012 “Phoenix”
was released. Two of these songs
are revisited; “You and Me
Both”, and “Beautiful Darkside”.
While not significantly amazing like “Who Needs Air” or
“Vagabonds”, these songs still
create a good balance of the
different sounds The Classic
Crime has accumulated over
the years.
Even though the bulk
of “WWD Vol. 1: A Decade
Revisited” is older material
they offer up two new songs
in the same semi-acoustic format. “Selfish”, and “Where Did
You Go” are fantastic and really
get me excited for The Classic
Crimes next masterpiece.

tradition, and is applicable to
all Faith Communities. The
role of the Faith Community
Nurse reclaims the historic
roots of health and healing
that is found in many religious traditions. Jesus healed
the “whole person” – body,
mind, and spirit. Deacons and
deaconesses carried on the
church’s mission of healing
in the early years, and during
the medieval age, the Church
was the vehicle in which healing could occur. Hospitals that
were built had connections
with churches. In 1984, The
Reverend Granger Westberg
approached Lutheran General
Health System in Illinois
with the idea of partnering with local churches in a
Parish Nurse project. Today,
an International Parish Nurse
Resource Center located in
the Church Health Center in
Memphis, Tennessee serves
Faith Community Nurses
throughout the world. In 1997,
Faith Community Nursing
was recognized as a Nursing
Specialty by the American
Nurses’ Association.
Recognizing that Faith
Community Nursing is a
Health Promotion, Disease
Prevention ministry with a
special emphasis on Spiritual
Care, all of the activities that a
Faith Community Nurse performs are derived from seven
functions. These are:
1. Integrator of Faith and Health
2. Personal Health Counselor
3. Health Educator
4. Trainer of Volunteers
5. Developer of Support Groups
6. Referral Agent
7. Health Advocate
I have always considered
that what I do is a calling. To
me, it is the best of both the
nursing and the faith worlds.
Both are intertwined together.
My faith is part of my wholeness which encompasses my
whole being-body, mind, and
spirit.
We have active Prayer Shawl
ministries at both SPCH and
SNLH. Once a few years ago
when I went to give a patient
in the hospital a Prayer Shawl
she didn’t want to receive it.
She told me that her cat would
tear it apart, and it was okay to
give it to someone else. When
I entered another patient’s
room with the same Prayer
Shawl (it was red in color)
and offered it to
another patient,
her response
was memorable.
After I told her
who I was and
that we would
like her to have
the shawl, she
told me that
her
husband
had just passed
away recently
and that his
favorite color
was red! God
knew that she
was supposed
to have that
shawl. There
are many, many stories about
Prayer Shawls that touch your
heart.
When, as a Faith Community
Nurse you are able to make
a difference; and they do it
all the time, you are fulfilling God’s call to health and
wholeness for that person.
When a Faith Community
Nurse calls the Dr. to make a
client an appointment because
they are having say a physical
problem, and the client sees
the Dr. and the problem is
taken care of, let’s say by an
antibiotic, or by changing a
S.U.R.F.’s UP! (Serving Up Righteous Faith)
medication, and that client is
helped just by those small but
significant nursing acts, it’s
a wonderful feeling knowing
you are assisting that client
on their journey to health and
wholeness. One aspect I really
like about Faith Community
Nursing is that it encompasses
the spiritual aspect of a person
also. FCN’s are able to pray
for and with their clients also.
We have several active
Faith Community Nurses
and Health Ministers serving in many faith communities in Lincoln County and
beyond. These nurses are able

When she opened her eyes
she was in her bedroom, lying
on her bed. She removed the
virtual reality connectors
from her temples and got up. She walked over to her
closet door and looked in the
mirror hanging there. She
gave herself one more lookover. White tennis shoes,
old blue jeans, solid black
tank-top, blue heart necklace
(given to her from Sean on
her last birthday), and long
curly red hair pulled up onto
a ponytail. She looked herself over again and sighed,
“So this is how I start eighth
grade.” She sighed again,
“Oh well.” JoAnna heard her
mother walking up the stairs
and grabbed her backpack. “JoAnna aren’t you ready
yet? The bus will be here
soon.” JoAnna and her mother
just about collided at JoAnna’s
door. She kissed her mom and
ran down the stairs.
“Just leaving now mom.
See you after school. Love
ya.”
“Love you too! Have a
good day at school.” Her
mom yelled after her just as
JoAnna went out the front
door.
JoAnna ran down the front
walk, turned, and ran toward
the bus where Sean was waiting. As she mounted the
bus the driver pointed at his
watch.
“Sorry. It won’t happen
again.” JoAnna said with a
remorseful look on her face.
Then she turned and followed
Sean to their regular seats;
right side, fourth from the
back. They sat down, looked
at each other, and started to
laugh.
“Man that was close. We
should probably think of a
different VR time, one that
doesn’t make us late for the
bus.” Sean looked around to
make sure that no one was
listening. Then he whispered,
“That way no one will be
suspicious. Especially our
parents.”
“No kidding. How about
tonight at nine o’clock?
That way we will have time
to finish our ‘first day of
school’ homework,” JoAnna
said while making quotation
marks with her fingers.
“Agreed. And this time you
won’t even make it out of the
to provide home and hospital visits, nursing home and
assisted living facility visits,
as well as accompany clients
when they see their doctor.
They are available for blood
pressure screenings as well
as for health counseling and
education. Having a Faith
Community Nurse on staff in
a church just makes sense! If

woods.” Sean gloated.
“We’ll just see about that,”
JoAnna said with a mysterious gleam in her eyes.
The rest of the way to
school they talked about
their classes, what teachers
they were going to have, and
which friends were coming
back this year. The only thing
they weren’t looking forward to was Daniel Williams.
Daniel ‘Dead Meat’ Williams
to anyone who crossed him.
He’s the biggest bully in the
whole school and his two
favorite targets were JoAnna
and Sean. By the end of last
year they were both expert
dodgers from Daniel. This
year was going to be different though. Oh, yes. This
year was definitely going to
be different. Though no one
knew it yet.

What’s happening in and
around Newport reaching out
to teens.
“Iron sharpens iron, so
one man sharpens another.”
Proverbs 27:17
We were created to be in
relationships: Relationship
with God and each other. In
Genesis 2:18, God stated, “It
is not good for the man to
be alone.” We have families and friends to provide
encouragement, enjoyment,
accountability, and guidance
in our lives.
Having good friends to
hang out with is important at
any age (Psalms 26:4-5), but
especially to teens. Young
people need their parents to be
their primary source of support, acceptance, and direction in their lives; but during
the teen years, young people
increasingly depend on their
friends to determine many of
their decisions. Teens want
the freedom to have fun with
their friends without feeling
like they are being constantly supervised or preached
to. However, parents want
their children to have positive relationships and choose
appropriate activities that
will support their family’s
values (Proverbs 22:6)
GO B.I.G. Ministries
offers “HangTime” Events at
the House of Refuge (310A
Gilbert Way, Newport), a safe
neutral location for teens to
build positive relationships.
Young people have a place
in their community where
they can have something fun
to do with peers and adults
without having to engage in
negative behaviors (Proverbs
12:15). Unchurched youth or
those who would not normally attend “church” activities
where the gospel is presented
in a “program” type setting
have an opportunity to learn
about Christ through friendships with other teens and
adults who know Jesus as
Lord and Savior.
During HangTime, caring Christian adults from the
schools, community, churches, and ministry organizations
are encouraged to interact
with the teens as mentors and
friends rather than chaperones. They offer the support
teens need to succeed in life
(Ecclesiastes 4:9-10). These
adults spend time at school
interacting with kids during
lunch or at various school
sponsored activities, build-
ing relationships, and sharing
alternatives to the weekend
party scene. Adult participant, Robert Walsh, describes
HangTime as “a stepping
stone between the secular
community and YoungLife,
WyldLife, or local church
youth groups. We want kids
to have a place where they
feel comfortable to hangout,
witness, and develop relationships with those they
don’t feel would be receptive to an invitation to their
normal church activities.”
By “earning the right to be
heard” through relationship
building, students and adults
alike are able to share their
faith, encourage, and enable
young people to GO B.I.G.
(GO Believing In God) while
making healthy life decisions.
Twice
a
month,
“HangTime” offers a place
for students ages 13-19 to
expand their relationships
outside of their usual school
cliques in a safe, no pressure
environment on Saturdays
from 7:30pm-midnight (Bible
Study offered at 6:30-7:15).
Teens are free to drop-in anytime during the evening to
enjoy free food, games, movies, music, hot tub, bonfires,
weight lifting, or just hanging out relaxing with friends
in a comfortable, home-like
environment. Parents likewise can be assured their kids
are in an environment free
of drugs, alcohol, or inappropriate activities. During
November, HangTime occurs
on the 15th and 29th.
Volunteers are always
needed to pray, set-up, serve,
and clean up after our events.
If you would like more information about upcoming
HangTime Events, directions,
would like to volunteer as
a regular or periodic adult
mentor (no long term commitments required), or make
a donation to help support
these events please contact
Carol Walsh at 541-2648393, email [email protected], or text 612889-4149.

Winter is coming, and fall is
ending, but the music release season is just getting started. There
were many albums to come out
in October that I could have
reviewed, but only one completely encapsulates the sound
of fall and winter. The Classic
Crime just released their new
album of revisited and acoustic
versions of their vast discography, and “What Was Done,
Vol.1: A Decade Revisited” is
nothing short of perfect. Keep in
mind when they mean revisited
it means more of a semi-acoustic
version, where there may be
other instruments besides acoustic guitar behind the softened
vocal deliveries. This review

good, isn’t what you would

of the song to sound like. The
main problem I have with it is
the lack of change on the vocals
and percussion from the original.
“Who Needs Air (Acoustic)” is
the first strictly acoustic song
on the album and happens to be
my favorite Classic Crime song
ever made. I could sing the praises of this song with thousands
of words, but I’ll just say this;
“Who Needs Air (Acoustic)” is
one of the most beautiful songs

The next album addressed is
2008’s “The Silver Cord”, but
only 2 tracks are revisited. “Salt
in The Snow”, and “God &
Drugs”. The former is exactly
what you’d expect it to sound

Beautiful and a guaranteed singalong track, with an incredible

Introduction Verse: Proverbs

Preguntas de introducción/
Introduction questions
1) ¿Qué entiendes por la
palabra ley?
What do understand by the
Word Law?
2) ¿Cuál es uno de los buenos consejos que has recibido
en su vida?
Do you remember a good
advice you have received in
your life?
3)
¿Últimamente

tenido la oportunidad de
hacerle bien a alguien?
Have you had an opportunity to
do good to somebody lately?
Introducción: Hoy miraremos algunos beneficios prácticos de guardar la ley de Dios
en nuestras vidas y sus consejos/ discreción (buena conducta).
Introduction: Today we
will be seeing a few practical
benefits in keeping the law of
God and his council/ discretation (good conduct).
tendremos muchos beneficios
los cuales miraremos en este
estudio.
Definition: The law of God:
Many people are afraid of this
word because they see it more
like condemnation and judgment instead of seeing it like
a blessing. This word in this
passage is the same word wisdom and in the case of the
knowledge of God He reveals
His wisdom thru His word the
Bible. In other words, keeping
the law is keeping the word.
So if we keep the Word/ Bible,
then we will have many bendefits which we will see in this
study.
Andarás por tu camino confiadamente” Prov. 3:23
“You shall walk in your way
safely” Prov. 3:23
La biblia dice que la palabra
de Dios es lámpara en nuestro
camino de tal manera que si
la guardamos y ponemos por
obra nos dará luz/ conocimiento y nos ayudara a no tropezar
en nuestro caminar de la vida.
The Bible says that the Word
of God is a lamp unto our path
in such a way that if we keep
it and practice it, it will bring
light/ knowledge into our lives
and it will help us from stubling
in our walk in life.
“Cuando te acuestes no tendrás temor” Prov. 3:24
“When you liest down, you
will not be afraid” Prov. 3:24
El Rey y escritor de algunos Salmos, David declaro
“En paz me acostare y así
mismo dormiré, porque solo
tú me haces vivir confiado”.
Hoy en día mucha gente que
no puede decir esto porque
están alejados de Dios y de su
palabra. Muchos necesitan de
medicamente para dormir unas
cuantas horas y sus sueños son
pesadillas. Si guardamos la
palabra de Dios, Dios guardara nuestro sueño, sueños y
nos hará vivir confiadamente.
King David who also wrote
some of the Psalms declared
“I will both lay me down in
peace, and sleep: for you oh
Lord make me dwell in safety”.
There is a lot of people that
cannot say those words because
they are far from God and His
Word. Many need medicine to
sleep a few hours and their
dreams turn into nightmares. If
we keep God’s Word, then He
will keep our sleep, dreams and
we will live in safety.
“No tendrás temor de pavor
repentino” Prov. 3:25
“Be not afraid of sudden Fear” Prov. 3:25
El temor es un espíritu que
ataca al ser humano especialmente los que no tienen a Dios
en su vida. La gente le teme a
lo desconocido, al futuro y su
imaginación lo traiciona para
pensar lo peor, pero cuando
guardamos la palabra de Dios
no tendremos temor alguno
porque sabemos que Dios está
de nuestro lado. La Biblia dice
que Dios es amor y también
dice que el perfecto amor hecha
fuera todo temor.
Fear is a spirit that attack
people especially those that do
not have God in their lives.
People fear the unknown, the
future and their imagination
doesnt help them because they
start thinking and imagining
the worst, but if we keep the
Word of God we will have no
fear because we will know that
God is on our side. The Bible
says that God is love and it also
states that perfect love cast out
fear.
No niegues hacer el bien a
quien es debido” Prov. 3:27
“Withhold not good to them
to whom it is due” Prov. 3:2728
The word of God teaches
us about sowing and reaping,
everything that a man’s sows,
this will he also reap. When
we see the need of somebody
(especially in the family of
God) & we have to give, we
must do it so that when it’s
time for us to receive there will
be people willing to help us
out too.
No intentes mal contra tu projimo Prov. 3:29-30
Devise not evil against your
neighbor
Prov.
3:29-30
La palabra nos manda a amar
a nuestro prójimo y orar por
nuestros enemigos. También
nos ensena que dentro de lo
que cabe debemos de estar en
paz con todos. El planear una
maldad contra tu prójimo no
es de Dios sino del diablo. La

Pulling Down Barriers
By Pam Carpenter,
Associate Pastor at
Lighthouse Vineyard
Fellowship in Newport
“Let us not grow tired of
doing good, for in due time we
shall reap our harvest, if we do
not give up. So then, while we
have the opportunity, let us
do good to all, but especially
to those who belong to the
family of the faith.” (Galatians
6:9,10 NASB)!
It seems to me that God
is encouraging us to pull
down the barriers that exist
Page 4
between us in the Body of
Christ: barriers of class,
denomination, and church
culture. We are one family, no
matter what denomination or
stream we are part of.
In this wonderful country, we have surpluses of
almost
everything.
We
can eat fruit no matter
what the season. We can
choose between a hundred kinds of cars or
shirts or movies. We are
used to expressing our individuality and defining ourselves
by our choices. One of those
choices is where and with
whom we worship, but
building
our
relationship with the family God
has given us is not like choosing a shirt or joining a gym.
This passage in Galatians
reminds us that our calling
includes doing good to the
family of the faith and we
aren’t to make the mistake
that this means only those in
our chosen group.
When we are born
into this fallen world, we
come into a family. We
don’t get to choose and
occasionally it feels like there
must have been some mistake,
but we trust that God ordained
that…our place in the world, our
natural gifts and weaknesses,
and our family. This is like the
canvas upon which we can paint
with the brush of faith and the
colors given by the Holy Spirit,
in the studio of the love of the
Father. We are free to create
this work of art using both the
things that naturally please
us and the things that look
like problems. Today God
is drawing us to join more
closely together with others,
The POST Puppy
to link arms, learn from each
other and celebrate God’s
grace together. We have a
high calling to encourage and
receive encouragement and
to bring God’s Kingdom to
earth. Every person has something to teach us and deserves
respect. Let’s tear down walls
in prayer and in action!
“And do not be conformed
to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your
mind, that you may prove
what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”
(Romans 12:2 NKJV)
‘Twas the evening of Oct.
31. I got to see our neighbors dressed like sharks,
and my family gave them
treats on our doorstep.
Then, my family left for
the evening. I get a little
huffy when they leave me.
Kelli had been baking a
pie, and had left out measuring cups, etc. I was
able to reach them, so was
hoping to soothe my feelers by having a bake-off.
But I couldn’t get to the
baking staples...and I even
knew Kelli had a package
of dark chocolate chips
in the cupboard! But my
family returned only to
curiously find plastic measuring cups on the living
room carpet.
So we all proceeded to
go to bed. I thought we
had bid good-bye to certain rodents out at the old
farm where we once lived.
But in the dark shadows of the night, a RAT
got in the house (after
chewing its way in behind
the washer and dryer). I
knew it wasn’t my buddy,
Ratatouille, whom I used
to cook with at the other
house. In this case, Tux
the cat knew what he had
to do. His 24/7 pest control business was tapped.
I am glad for cats, after
all; otherwise the stinker
rat could have chewed his
way into my food sack.
That really would’ve made
me huffy! “I knew You are
a gracious and compassionate God, slow to anger
and abounding in love, a
God who relents
from
sending
calamity”. (Jonah
4:2 & 3).
What is Winds of
Praise?
O
ur primary goal is
to encourage people to worship God,
in the name of Jesus
Christ, every day, 24
hours a day. We do this
primarily through the
broadcast of contemporary (modern) praise
and worship music. We
have live DJs at specific
times throughout the
day. We have time available for the rebroadcast
of local church sermons
and Bible teachings. We
are not from any one
denomination, but work
with many people from
many Christian denominations and groups.

Dios es amor.
The Word teaches us to love
our neighbor and pray for our
enemies. It also says that within
our powers that we should be at
peace w/ everybody. Planning
evil against your neighbor is
not from God, but from the
devil. The Bible also teaches
us that whoever is in God will
love for God is love.
“La maldición del Senor
esta en la casa del impio”
Prov. 3:33-35
“The curse of the Lord is in
the house of the wicked” Prov.
3:33-35
The Law/Word teaches us
that God puts before us the
blessing and curse and we need
to decide which one we want.
If we keep His Word, then our
homes will be filled with his
blessings. He that rejects the
Word of God is opening the
door for the curse to come into
their home. Today the Lord is
giving the opportunity to bring
home the blessings and your
loved ones.

to the attic, I counted 6
boxes of Christmas decorations awaiting their
turn to come downstairs.
But first, of course, is
Thanksgiving. Yes, the
time of year we count
our blessings while making a Mayflower out of
a crooked squash for the
center of the table and
stuffing the bird and ourselves. The holidays truly
are joyous. I bask in the pleasure of those sights, sounds,
and smells during this special
season, don’t you?
This year will be a little different for me. Although I just
turned 80, and although I’ve
been a born-again believer since
the age of 3 or 4 when I prayed
a simplified “sinners’ prayer”
at my mother’s knee, I must
confess I’m a late bloomer in
some things spiritual. Although
I could recite John 3:16 from
the get-go, and I knew I would
go to heaven when I died;
although I prayed and read my
Bible every day after a Sunday

Answer By Fire GAtherinG
Dan LunDy
Dan Lundy,
Messenger Ministries
Hello Brothers and Sisters.
LaRita and I, along with Bob
and Meg Ledbetter, attended
the Answer By Fire Gathering
in Eugene, Oregon on Saturday,
November 1. It actually started
on Friday but LaRita and I didn’t
make it. Bob and Meg did, however, and said the worship and
teaching was wonderful.
Some old friends you might
remember are: Rita Bear-Gray,
Lanny Harris, Deb Robinson and
Don and Mary Gentry. I could go
to great lengths to describe the
power in the worship with the
combined instruments, drums and
voices. But I won’t. I want to talk
about the teaching that Rita BearGray taught. I will paraphrase her
and encapsulate the message so
you don’t have to read half the
night to get through this article.
She started out with prayer.
Nothing unusual in that, right?
Then she went into a short testimony about her early life. She
was born in a remote village in
northern Canada where her father
was a trapper. They were poor and
so remote that they didn’t have
electricity or running water. Their
heat was wood that they cut in
the summer and burned all winter
long. Yes, they endured freezing
temperatures and snow for most
of the winter.
She told one particular story
about when her mother was eight
months pregnant with her. Her dad
was out on the trapline. The family ran out of food. Rita’s mother
left the other children at the cabin
and went toward the village to get
some food. She didn’t make it. A
pack of wolves chased her across
a frozen lake where she managed
(eight months pregnant) to climb
a tree. She stayed there all night.
Two trappers came along and
chased the wolves off and took
her to their cabin, warmed her up
and saved her life.
Rita went on to say that her
mother left when she (Rita) was
two years old. She just couldn’t
stand the wilderness lifestyle. So,
her father raised all the kids while
trapping and hunting for subsistence. It was a harsh life.
The authorities came occasionally, scooped up the Indian kids,
and took them to boarding schools
far away. Some kids were never
heard of again. So, her father took
them into the deeper wilderness
where they hunted, trapped and
lived off the land for several more
years.
Finally, when they moved back
closer to the village, Rita’s mom
came back and took her out of the
village and to another family. Rita
said she never understood why

been missing. In this past
year, previously skipped
over Scriptures have begun
glowing for me like neon
lights.
What have I missed?
Here’s the answer: the all
day, every day walk in the
Spirit. More specifically,
I’ve been parceling out my
days into “my time” and
“God’s time.” But wait!
If I am in union with the
Creator, as He so lavishly offers, then there’s no
divvying up, right? In fact
lately I cringe when I hear
folks say that God is a big
part of their lives. What’s that?
Only part? God is my life I’m
just grasping! … “it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives
in me; and the life which I now
live in the flesh I live by faith in
the Son of God….” Galatians
2:20. So that does away with
portion control. “This is your
time, Lord, now I get to do my
thing” has changed to His life
in me. I hope I’ll remember
and practice this new understanding daily.
Blessed Lord, sanctify your
Word to my heart, embedding
it permanently so I might walk
worthy of your calling. Amen.

silent auction/chili feed held at
the Little Chief Restaurant for
the kid’s choir, I felt a freedom to
select one of Mom’s paintings.
My husband Scott was amazed
that I would even consider it.
I shared with my local sister,
and she was also supportive.
So, the painting you see here,
“Drift Fishing” (so “Siletz-y”,I
thought), was put on a table top
easel at the auction, with a little
information about Mom.
I was thrilled that dear friends,
LaRita and Dan Lundy, looked
like they would be the ones to
take the painting home, having
placed a bid. Just before the
auction closed, a woman came
in and asked for an order of biscuits and gravy from the regular
restaurant menu, unaware that
we were having a chili feed. So,
chili it was. She had spotted the
painting earlier, and was disappointed that the auction papers
were being gathered up. LaRita
graciously let her bid anyway.
Barbara made the winning bid!
She explained that her husband
had passed away just six months
ago, and river fishing is what
they did together, so she was
deeply touched. She returned a
little later with cash in hand, and
in tears gave me a big hug and
kiss on the cheek. This brought
tears to me. Barbara said, “The
only thing wrong with this painting is that I am not in the boat
with him”. I tried to console her,
with “... he is waiting for you!”.
So, you see you don’t know
when God is going to do something; to perhaps release you
in an area of life. And, with
God behind the do-ing, you (and
someone else!) can be blessed.
Jesus said, “You did not choose
Me, but I chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit--fruit that will last. Then the
Father will give you whatever
you ask in My name. This is My
command: Love each other”.

Christ’s life on
earth serves
as an ideal of
how we are
to treat every
individual on
our team, and
focusing on
him is crucial
because we are
prone to forget
that an athletic
team is made
up of more
than the stars.
Each member is important.
Anyone choosing to be
part of a team must accept
responsibility to build up and
encourage everyone. Let’s be
careful to not focus on the
stars. Sometimes a simple
pat on the back is all it
takes to show we care. Jesus
reaches for us
before we even
ask. Aren’t we
to do the same?
Yes, we are
to follow His
example and
show compassion for all of
our
players.
Jesus loves us,
and we should
do the same for
others.
The reason
we are given
talents is for the glory of
God. That means each person is uniquely designed to
glorify God in a special way.
This truth helps us remember
that everyone on the team
has a contribution to make
and is therefore worthy of
our attention.
Are we teaching our athletes to encourage one another by our personal example?
How do we view the members of our team?
Lord help me appreciate

this was done.
Eventually she was found and
returned home. She went on to
testify that her homelife became
very hard because her dad became
alcoholic and abusive. At 15 she left
home, never to return.
She spoke of how deep hurts can
lead to bitterness. Rita went on to
say that bitterness ruins every part of
a person’s life, to the point of nearly
no return. Then, she spoke of the
power of God through Jesus Christ
and how He turned her life around
and gave her hope and strength.
The teaching was powerful and
full of the hope in Jesus Christ.
She now teaches and works as an
alcohol and drug counselor. She is
a minister in her own right. She is a
blessing from Creator God.
Her message in a nutshell? We
can forgive and rebuild through the
power of Jesus, the Son of our
Creator. If you are bitter? Go to the
Cross and get better. This can only
be accomplished by going to the
source—Yeshua, Jesus.
I have experienced this in my
life. So can you. Be blessed.

We believe:
That the Bible is God's inspired, authoritative, infallible Word. 2 Tim 3:16, 17
That there is one God, eternally existent in three personalities; Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. 2 Cor. 13:14
That Jesus Christ, born of a virgin, sacrificed His
own life by shedding His blood on the cross for our
sins, and was resurrected by God from death to
provide eternal life to those who accept Him as Lord
and Savior and is soon coming back for His church.
Jesus is the Way, the Truth and the Life. "No one
comes to the Father, but through Me." John 14:6
That the Holy Spirit, the Helper, is active, sent by
the Father, dwells within us, and daily leads us a

That Jesus Christ is the head of His church, and that
His church is composed of individual members and
fellowships created to serve unique yet necessary
functions and that love is the greatest of all gifts
given to His church. 1 Cor. 12 & 13

Parish Nursing:
Help for Physical & Spiritual Health
by Karen C. Wright, MSN,

Parish Nurse Coordinator
serving Lincoln County
Have you ever had a question about your health or that
of a loved one but couldn’t
call your doctor because it was
a weekend and the office was
closed? You wished you had
someone to talk with; someone
who had professional knowledge about health and wellness. Maybe your Doctor pre-
scribed some new medication
for you recently, but after you
left the office and got home
you couldn’t quite remember
what pill was for what problem. Maybe you’ve just had a
new baby and you sure could
use some extra professional
advice on baby care. If you’ve
ever wondered about diabetes, asthma, parkinson’s or
alzheimer’s diseases, depression, Advance Directives, Karen C. Wright, MSN, R.N.

Nurse. Faith Community
Nurses (sometimes called
Parish Nurses) are Registered
Nurses (R.N.’s) who take
specialized course work in
order to minister to people
in their Faith Communities.
Faith Community Nurses do
not provide “hands on” nursing or duplicate other nursing
or medical services, but they
are able to provide that link
between the faith world and
the medical world. A Faith
Community Nurse works
within his or her own Faith
Community, and yet reaches
out to those in their local
geographical communities as
well. Faith Community Nurses
minister to the whole person –
body, mind, and spirit. They
bring their compassion, education, and expertise in order
to accomplish this role.

I stepped out of the house
on a Monday morning, hands
loaded with stuff, and ready
to go to work.
It had just begun to
downpour. The rain was
coming down hard. So I
paused on the porch, knowing that it would probably
let up in a moment or two.
And as I paused, I listened.
It was awesome. A unique
God song. Rain on the tin
roof. Rain through the big
cedar trees. Splashing off the
road. What could have been
a blood pressure raiser turned
into a moment of peace and
pleasure.
I could have chosen to
be bothered, or to just ‘go
with the flow’ and I’m happy
I had the good sense to do the

latter.
Life is full
of
choices
every
day,
every moment,
is’nt it? Do
we choose to
stand or sit?
To work or rest? To pick up
the remote, or pick up His
book? To fight or flight? To
trust in our emotions or trust
in God and His Word?
I don’t always make the
right choices, and I’m sure no
one does, but we do get better
the longer we practice at it.
We have been engaged in a
lot recently. The enemy seems
active, aiming
against us. And
when I say
‘us’, I mean
us the Church.
But the Bible
warns us of
such in 1 Peter
5 “Be careful—watch out for
attacks from Satan, your great
enemy. He prowls around like
a hungry, roaring lion, looking
for some victim to tear apart.
Stand firm when he attacks.
Trust the Lord; “
When the storm hits, stand
firm. Wait. Trust in the Lord.
Enjoy His presence. Rest in
Him.
I have heard a prophetic
word that the Lord is about
to come in a new strong
movement, like a tidal wave.
Pulling out all things first, in
an unusual way, in prepara-

tion for the force to come.
Are you ready, in Him?
