Greek and Latin Vocabulary Study
7th Grade Honors Language Arts
One of the best ways to improve your vocabulary skills is to study Greek
and Latin root words. Often, you can make a really good guess at the
meaning of an unfamiliar word if you know the basic meaning of the
root word. This year, we will study a variety of Greek and Latin Root
words, and you will be expected to complete several assignments on
each weekly word set. Below is a weekly timeline of what you should
do to learn each weekly word set. All the assignments below should be
kept in the vocabulary section of your binder (we will have at least two
binder checks per nine weeks)!
Monday – Find three other words that use the weekly root word
Wednesday and fill out the template for each word either in power
point or neatly written.
Thursday
Turn in your Weekly Word Study Template and review
your visual notes.
Friday
Take a multiple choice test over the word set.
Take visual notes for next week’s root word.

Choose THREE new words that use your weekly root word and complete the
following template in either PowerPoint or Word by the end of the day on
Thursday of each week. Be careful to choose a root word whose origin comes
from our weekly root word—sometimes the words look similar but have
completely different origins. These will be submitted electronically via email.
