you may apply for Family Reunification:

2. International protection (refugee status or subsidiary protection);
3. Long-term EU residence permit or

essential needs because of health reasons involving

 Dependent parents, if there are no other children in
their country of origin, or parents that are over 65, if
there are no other children that can provide for them
for documented serious health problems.
What you need:
Accommodation (rental contract and certificate of
habitability);

lower than the annual amount of the Social Allowance
increased by 50% of the amount of the Social Allowance for each family member to reunite and

If you have a residence permit for asylum or subsidiary protection, there are no income or accommodation
requirements.

DNA test - how and why:
Italian Embassies in charge of issuing visas may request
a DNA test to verify biological relationship2.
The DNA test may be necessary if:
you come from a country at war;
your family is located in a country other than its country of origin, after having escaped, and does not have
any documents;

your country is not able to issue any valid documents, because there are no more offices able to
do so or
 you or your family have never had any identification documents.

Since 2001, the International Organization for
Migration (IOM) has been collaborating with the
Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in carrying out DNA tests for
Family Reunification purposes between foreign
citizens in Italy and members of their families in
their countries of origin or residence.
How it works
A DNA test may be required by the Italian Embassy
from the moment Family Reunification is authorized before a visa for Italy is issued.
The DNA test is at your own costs and is voluntary.
However in some cases the DNA test is the only
way to prove the family relationship and to facilitate the issuance of the visa for Family Reunification by the Italian Embassies.
If you agree to submit yourself and your family
to the DNA test for Family Reunification, your
family needs to go to the local IOM office to initiate the procedure and pay 35€ per person.
The IOM staff will collect all your and your fam-

Law on Immigration, if the family relationship cannot be proven with

authorities, if there are no recognized authorities, or if there are
reasonable doubts as to the authenticity of the above mentioned
documents, the diplomatic or consular representatives shall issue
certificates, as provided for by Article 49 of the Decree of the President of the Republic No. 200 of 5 January 1967, on the basis of DNA
(deoxyribonucleic acid) tests, which are carried out at the expense
of the concerned party.
