After-school European Language Classes for 5th and 6th classes 2014/15

Dear Parents,
Thank you for your expressions of interest during the last term, in the after-school languages programme
for 5th and 6th classes, which are designed to give children an invaluable introduction to a European
language in advance of secondary school.
There has been a significantly higher than expected interest in Spanish (over 30) with significantly fewer
preferences for French and German. We are unable to provide for any more than 12-14 children taking
any one language and classes are designed to be small in order for children to reap the benefits. Having
secured qualified tutors, we would also like to continue to offer some variety in the languages offered to
children.
With this in mind, the Parents Association requests that parents along with children re-consider their first
preference choice and return the form below to your class teacher, with a €20 deposit to hold a place in a
language class by Tuesday 7th October. If more than 14 children (who have returned forms and a deposit
by 7th) choose Spanish, the first 14 such names picked ‘from a hat’ will be offered Spanish. Children who do
not secure a place in Spanish will be offered a place in French or German. Forms and deposits must be returned
by 7th October as it is intended that language classes will resume on Monday 13 th October.
Classes will run from 2:45pm after school until 3:30pm immediately after school on Mondays during the
academic term.
The cost of the first ten lessons is €40 and the balance of monies (€20) must be paid at the first language
class on Monday 13th October. Classes will be billed in groups of ten in advance and will run from 13th
October through the terms to the end of May 2015.
