About Device Restrictions

About Device Restrictions We do not recommend agebased restrictions
Due to our core curriculum using flashbased content as well as using iPads, we’re required to use
Puffin Browser
to enable access to this content. Because of web browser app’s abilities to show 17+ content, Apple rates it as 17+ in the App Store. What this means for you and your student(s): If age based restrictions are enabled, unless you allow 17+ apps, Puffin browser will no longer be available for use. Parents, Students, and Teachers working together
Parental responsibilities: In the case a parent would like to enable restrictions, it is the
parent’s responsibility
to remove the access code or provide the access code to the teacher. If a device is restricted and the student is unable to access Puffin browser, they will not be able to complete their schoolwork. Parents worried about content viewing during school hours should rest assured that the teachers are managing classroom usage and activity. Additionally, the Innovation Academy is not responsible for your student’s access to classwork because of enabled restrictions. We strongly
encourage parents to enable the restrictions when the student comes home, then remove them in the morning before school. K9, NetNanny and other websafe browsers: While there are safe browsers that will filter out content, the students will still need to use Puffin Browser to complete their schoolwork. This is due to the need for Flash content support. Content awareness and parentchild communication: We encourage parentchild discussion of what is appropriate and inappropriate content for your home on the iPads. We would like to encourage monitoring the children’s browser history, iMessage history and so on. The teachers are responsible for students in the classroom and their education. If a child is unable to complete an assignment due to restrictions, the Innovation Academy is not responsible. IT support and teachers
cannot
override your restrictions, and the only way to remove them are to wipe the device entirely. It is imperative the restriction code is stored in a safe place, otherwise the student may lose any work that is not saved to Google Drive. If there are any questions, the Innovation Academy staff will be happy to help. More information on Internet Safety:
https://www.smore.com/07sq You can turn on Restrictions, also known as parental controls, on your iOS device to prevent access to specific apps and features. Learn about the types of Restrictions and how to turn them on and off on your device. Turn on Restrictions 1. Tap Settings > General. 2. Tap Restrictions. 3. Tap Enable Restrictions and enter a passcode. You’ll need this passcode to change your settings or turn off Restrictions. If you lose or forget your Restrictions passcode, you’ll need to
erase your device and then set it up as a new device
to remove the passcode. Restoring the device won’t remove the passcode. See what you can restrict When an option is on, or you see a checkmark next to an item, that means you’re allowing access to that item. Turn options off to restrict access. You can also turn on or enforce Restrictions using a profile (typically installed when using the device for business or education purposes). Check for installed profiles in Settings > General > Profiles. Contact your administrator or the person who installed the profile for more information. Apps and features ●
