The Confucius Institute at PSU Presents Guzheng lecture recital by well-known Guzheng players Mr. Bi Hai and Ms. Li Ruisi Mr. Hai Bi started studying the guzheng at the age of nine. He graduated from the Music Conservatory of the Northwest University for Nationalities. He has worked as a guzheng performer with the Lanzhou Military District Symphony Orchestra. Mr. Bi has twice won first prize in the Shanghai instrumental solo guzheng competition. Currently he performs in the Orchards and Bamboo Ensemble at the Portland Lansu Chinese Garden as well as at various local libraries, schools and senior centers. Pieces of Guzheng solo from Ruisi Li: 1. 《春到湘江》”Spring on Xiangjiang River” 2. 《秦桑曲》”The Tune of Qin Mulberry” Bio Sketch of Ruisi Li Ruisi Li began to study Guzheng in Central Conservatory of Music in China since she was 7 years old. She got the first prize in “National Youth Art and Music Competition” for Guzheng solo in 2002. Ruisi is the member of “China Nationalities Orchestra Society (CNOS)”, and she is certificated as the “Outstanding Guzheng Teacher” by the CNOS. She had many performing and teaching experiences in China, Europe and the United States. Ruisi Li lives in Portland now, and she endeavors to promote the communication between Chinese music and western music.
