SUNDAY KIDS CLUB CREATED FOR A PURPOSE AGE 4 - KINDERGARDEN ! Recommended Schedule ! Optional Center Time 10 mins ! Lesson 20 mins ! Crafts 30 mins ! Materials Praise Music CD Player Stapler Gold or Yellow Poster Board Clear Tape Scissors Glue Paint Brush Glitter, Sequins, Etc. ! For Each Child: Floor Size Puzzle Pieces ! ! THEME: “Created for a Purpose”! ! SCRIPTURE: Philippians 2:13, Philippians 3:4-14, Esther! ! MEMORY VERSE: Philippians 2:13 “For God is working in you.”! ! LEADER PREP: This lesson is based on the whole of Esther 1-10. In preparation for class your should familiarize yourself with the Book of Esther. As you teach the lesson you can pull out key verses from the Book to teach the points you want to convey to the class. ! Is there something you know God wants you to do but you have been afraid to do it? Let the story of Esther remind you that God can give you the strength you need to do His will. ! Make a scepter. Let the children pretend to be Esther and the king. Let the king hold out the scepter to Esther. Let Esther touch the scepter. ! ! Before class print out the Scepter Top Patterns below . Cut out the patterns and trace around the edges to transfer the patterns onto gold/yellow poster board or use tracing paper to copy the patterns onto the poster board. Cut two of the same patterns for each scepter. The best way to cut out the patterns so that they match up perfectly (if only one side of the poster board is gold/yellow) is to trace the pattern onto the wrong side of the poster board. Cut out around the pattern loosely. Turn the poster board over and place the loosely cut out pattern on top of the poster board and cut out both tops at the same time. When you have finished cutting them out, turn them so that the gold side is facing out and they should match up perfectly. To make the bottom of the scepter (the long skinny tube): Mark off 2 1/2 inch lengths down the long side of the poster board with a pencil. The strips should measure 22" x 2 1/2" each. You should be able to get 11 strips per poster board. Do not cut them apart yet. Roll up the poster board (short ways) as tight as you can. Put a rubber band on it and let it set overnight or until the poster board holds its shape pretty well. This will make it easier to roll up each individual scepter bottom after they are cut apart. Cut the strips apart. Roll them up to form a skinny tube. Use tape to keep them together. Now you are ready to glue on the tops. Roll the bottom tabs in towards the wrong side of the pattern. Insert them into the tube. Secure them with hot melt glue. Use hot melt glue to glue the two patterns together. Next, Print out the Crown pattern below and cut them out. Trace them onto gold or yellow poster board. Place the pattern along the bottom center of the poster board. The patterns only show one half of the crown so you will have to turn the pattern over and trace the other half to form a whole crown. Add length to the crown according to the age of the children. You can use the short side of the poster board (22 inches) if you have younger children. You will have to use the long side for older children. I could fit four king's crowns on one piece of poster board and five queen's crowns on one piece of poster board making the longer crowns. Cut out the first crown and use it as a pattern for the rest of the crown ! CHILDREN’S MOMENT Use a puzzle (floor size would be best). Give each student a piece of puzzle. Let them look at their individual piece. As you teach the verse talk about how with just our one piece of puzzle we can’t see what the whole puzzle will look like when put together. We can see bits and pieces of what might be the picture from our piece but as each of us begin to assemble the puzzle with our piece we see the bigger picture. This puzzle is like God’s plan for each of our lives. We only know such a small piece of God’s bigger plan. When we are obedient and faithful to what God has asked us to do, He uses us to be a part of His bigger picture. Prayer (Break down the prayer into parts. The kids repeat each phrase after you) Dear God, Wow, what a cool thing to be a part of your great plan. Help us be obedient and faithful. May others see you in all we do. We pray in Jesus’ Name. Amen. ! OPTIONAL CENTER TIME To help the children transition into class, please use the following center format. Set up three centers in your classroom to allow children options of activities. Ideas include, but are not limited to: ! 1. Read books on the floor. 2. Color at the table. 3. Play with blocks on the floor. 4. Play with puzzles at the table. ! ! LESSON Let’s Freeze Play praise music and lead the children in movements (stepping side to side, clapping their hands, stomping their feet, tiptoeing, following the teacher in a circle, slapping their legs, doing jump and jacks, reaching up high and down low, etc). ! Have an assistant shut the worship music off and have the students freeze, standing completely still. Play the music again and repeat multiple times. After a few rounds for an added challenge, while students are freezing, recite memory verse and begin again. ! ! Queen Esther’s Story **As you tell Esther’s story every time you say Esther have the kids clap. Every time you say Haman have the kids stomp their feet. Every time you time say Mordecai have the kids shout hooray!** ! ! Esther was one of God’s chosen people. She lived with Mordecai, her cousin who had adopted her. They were living in a foreign land. The king of the land, King Xerxes, wanted a new queen. They looked high and low throughout the kingdom (Make hand motions like you are looking around.), and Esther was one of the ladies chosen to try out to be the queen. And eventually, the king did choose Esther to be the queen! ! There was a bad man who worked for the king. His name was Haman. Haman didn’t like Mordecai because he wouldn’t bow down to Haman. Haman wanted to have Mordecai and all of his people killed. So Haman asked the king to make an order that all of the Jews, God’s chosen people, would be killed on a certain day. When Mordecai heard this, he was so sad! He sent a message to Esther, saying that she had to ask the king to stop this order! ! ! Esther was very afraid, because she wasn’t supposed to go to the king without being invited. In fact, she could be killed! But Mordecai told her that God had put her in that position to help His people. Esther told Mordecai that she would go to the king. But first, she asked all the Jews to pray for three days. On the third day, Esther put on her royal robes. Then she took a deep breath and walked into the inner room where the king was seated. The king saw Esther and was very pleased. He held out his gold scepter and let her live! Then the king asked Esther what she wanted. Esther asked the king and Haman to come to a dinner. ! That night the king asked Esther what she wanted. Esther replied by asking the king and Haman to come the next day for another dinner. ! So the king and Haman went to Esther’s second dinner. Finally, Esther told the king the reason she had invited them. She explained Haman’s plan to have all the Jews killed, and that she was a Jew! When the king heard this, he was furious! He reversed the order to have the Jews killed, and instead he ordered for Haman to be killed! God used Esther to save His people. Later, they had a special feast to honor God for saving his people. The king issued a command to celebrate this day every year to remind the people of how good God is. ! ! Test Your Memory Have kids cut out pictures from “God Uses Esther to Rescue His People” worksheet and glue them in proper order. ! Purim Song ! !
