Even if you settle down at times your mind still moves like the

Smurfs: The Lost Village
T
HE SWORN ENEMY of the Smurfs, Gargamel creates the first female
Smurf named Smurfette to try and gain access to the super-secret
Smurf village. But Papa Smurf thwarts his efforts and does magic on
Smurfette to get her over to the good side. While she looks like the
Smurfs, she remains different than the others. Smurfs are supposed
to specialise at one thing, (humour, baking, farming etc.), but she is
a Jill-of-all-trades. On one ‘Smurfing’ trip, the evil Gargamel captures her and
wheedles out information about another secret Smurf village. She breaks out
of his prison, and struck by guilt, decides to go and warn the inhabitants of the
other village with help from her friends Clumsy Smurf (Anton Yelchin), Brainy
Smurf (Danny Pudi) and Hefty Smurf (Joe Manganiello).
After two previous movies that tried to hook viewers to the Smurf’s universe
and failed, 'Smurfs: The Lost Village' is a reboot that tries to salvage the dismal
run of its predecessors. Given the short length of the film, kudos to the makers
as they manage to explore new ground and introduce an entirely new Smurf
tribe, yet the story fails them. Kids may find it endearing, but there is very little
for adults to take away. The characters, with the exception of Smurfette, remain one dimensional and the villain is a weakling. There is no real fear about
him ever winning in the entirety of the film.
The animation in the tale is sharp, and thankfully the makers decided to
stick to computer animation considering the earlier films were a mix of live
action and animation. 3D is well used in several sequences, and you wish there
was more of it. Animated films with no legacy behind them have done much
better in terms of story in the recent past ('Sing', 'Zootopia' etc). But this one,
with its insipid and lazy storyetlling, fails to build up on Smurf nostalgia.
Demi Lovato, as Smurfette has done a credible job in voicing her character,
but the rest, including Julia Roberts, don’t really add to the movie. An exception is Ellie Kemper as Smurf Blossom, who plays an excitable, energetic girl
Smurf and welcomes Smurfette and her friends into their world.
Considering the summer holidays are on, you can take your little ones to the
theater who may enjoy it. But you may just zone out in this very ordinary story
that has very little to offer adults.

as Captain
Jack Sparrow aboard the "Pirates of the
Caribbean" ride.
On Wednesday, visitors
were treated to the actual actor
reciting lines from the popular
film franchise while waving his

Depp even abandoned ship

The stunt comes just a

Tales" hits the theatres on May

The fifth instalment of
Disney's franchise will see a departure from 2011's "On Stranger
Tides" in an effort to return
to the original film's feel. Also
returning will be Orlando Bloom
and Keira Knightley in their roles
as Will Turner and Elizabeth
Swann, who were last seen in
2007's "At World's End".
Manipuri folk star Mangka goes global with Clã
M
ANIPURI FOLK MUSICIAN MANGKA’S new
single ‘Nura Pakhang’
(Eu E Tu), a collaborative effort with Portugal’s
iconic pop band Clã was released
worldwide on April 28, 2017.
The track will be part of
an album called T(H)REE - A
MUSICAL JOURNEY FROM
PORTUGAL TO ASIA. T(H)REE
is a project that has brought
together Portuguese and Asian
musicians over the last decade
in unique collaborations, with
the aim of creating new soundscapes, exploring the local
cultures, and promoting the
best music made in the different
styles. The styles go from Folk
to rock, pop to electronica and
spoken word to experimental.
Among the Portuguese participants are iconic names such as
Clã, Peixe, Amélia Muge and Old
Jerusalem, and from Asia names
like Mangka (India), Indus Creed
(India), Dinesh Subasinghe (Sri
Lanka), Mohichehra (Uzbekistan), Magic of Nomads (Kazakhstan), Mohammed Haddad
(Bahrain) and Sherine Tohamy
(U.A.E) in the collaborations.
A box that includes three
discs was also released on April
28th 2017 and is coordinated by
producer David Valentim. It is
an Omnichord Records edition
with production partially
supported by Fundação Oriente.
All of the sales of this release
will be donated to "Make a Wish
Foundation”.
The song ‘nura pakhang’
(eu e tu) has been written and
composed by Mangangsana,
the artistic director of Laihui,
a folk music ensemble based in
Imphal. According to Mangangsana, any sort of collaboration
should bring cultural understanding between two different
communities. The beauty of
the collaboration is that the
Portuguese band and the Indian
artist never met. They compose
and record tracks in their own
places/studios and the producer
finally mix everything and a song
is made. When the collaboration was finalized, Mangangsana presented three tracks to
the Portuguese producer David
Valentim who chose the song
‘nura pakhang’.
Clã also wrote their own
lyrics and blended into the
Manipuri folk based song.
Initially Mangangsana was a
little worried how Manipuri folk
and traditional music will blend
with a pop/rock band like Clã.
All communications were done
through emails and the final
song was created.
And according to David, the
result is fantastic. The track has
two different versions; a full
length version (6+ minutes)
and the radio edit version (4.29
minutes) which is being played
on Antena 3, one of the biggest
radio channel in Portugal.

Lee Soo Hyuk threatens friendship
with G-Dragon over Instagram post
L
EE SOO HYUK is threatening his friendship
with BIG BANG leader
G-Dragon over an
Instagram post.
However, fans should
not be worried as newest
YG artist was only joking
around when he said he
was going to stop hanging
out with his new labelmate
GD.
The Instagram banter
started when G-Dragon
reposted a post from YG
Entertainment's Instagram account welcoming
Lee Soo Hyuk to the YG
Family. G-Dragon simply
captioned his post with
the actor's name, reported
Soompi.
Lee Soo Hyuk responded
by posting the same photo
on his own Instagram
and saying a senior from
his new agency with 13.9
million followers posted his
photo and his Instagram
handle on his account.
The actor was referring to
G-Dragon who is one of
the most-followed Korean
celebrities in the world.
The actor however, had
a complaint. "Last time
he asked me why I wasn't
greeting him formally and
I thought he was joking,"
Lee Soo Juk said. "But he
told me to do it again today
so at this point it's probably
safe to say he isn't joking,
what is this, what should
I do? Should I just stop
meeting him."
The banter drew a lot of
laughter and comments
from both of their fans but
most of them welcomed
Lee Soo Hyuk to the YG
family and looked forward
to great projects from him.
Many also commented
on the easy camaraderie
between G-Dragon and the
actor.
According to All Kpop,
Lee Soo Hyuk, who
appeared on the drama
"Scholar Who Walked
the Night" where he won
Best New Actor for the
MBC Drama Awards,
also took on projects
like Lucky Romance and
Sweet Stranger and Me. He
signed with YG last March
and the label promised
to "assist him in a wide
range of novel activities by
communicating with him
forwardly."
‘Nura Pakhang’ (Eu E Tu)
is shot in Manipur and
Portugal and is directed by

It might be noted that
Mangka is the first Indian

Radio Song Festival. She
was selected to represent
India at the second edition
of the biennial Asia-Pacific

in Colombo in 2014. In 2015,

Sam Smith might
make comeback
with Clean Bandit
G
RAMMY AWARD-WINNING singer Sam Smith
is reportedly working with British electronic music group Clean Bandit.
According to dailystar.co.uk, Smith
is teaming up with the "Rockabye"
hitmakers on a follow up to his mega-selling "In
The Lonely Hour" album.
Smith has had at least one writing session with
the band so far.
But Clean Bandit's Jack Patterson didn't reveal
much when asked how the sessions went.
He said: "That's interesting, where did you
hear that?"
Smith has been a Clean Bandit fan for years but
hopes of an earlier collaboration were destroyed
when ex-violinist Neil Amin-Smith criticised
him.
Neil said the Grammy winner's James Bond
song "The writing's on the wall" was "just a
flaccid copy of (Michael Jackson's) 'Earth song'".
The violinist has since quit the line-up and a
source said: "That opened the door again."
