* Periodic Table Task Card In science, the 5d and ¢h graders at this school will soon be learning about the periodic table. Your job is to create a mini-book using Powerpoint, that will help the younger students learn about 3 different elements in the periodic table (1 gas, 1 liquid, 1 solid). 1) Start by getting a little background information on ATOMS, the building blocks of elements. Go to the website: http://education.jlab.org/atomtour. Click on student zone and then "All About Atoms". Visit the "fun facts". Fill in the "Atoms Crossword Puzzle" to gain the background information that you need to proceed with your investigation. 2) Now that you know a little bit about atoms, look at the periodic table shown on the website: http://education.jlab.org/itselemental. The periodic table lists all the elements. Elements are made up of atoms. The reason there are so many elements, is that atoms come in different weights and organizations. It is important to remember that the periodic table lists only elements, and not compounds. 3) Pick one element that is gas, one that is liquid and one that is solid at room temperature from the period table (hint: the elements are color-coded) and record the following for each: element name - atomic number element symbol - atomic weight -phase at room temp -at least 2 uses 4) Create a powerpoint presentation on the 3 elements you have chosen. Include the following: Slide 1: Title Slide List the title for your project, your names. Include at least 2 scientific pictures, from the internet. Slide 2: Periodic Table Display Slide Display a picture from the internet of the periodic table. Somewhere on the card, write the following words: The periodic table has only elements and not compounds or molecules. Slides 3-5: Element Information Slide Display the information that you have researched about the elements you have chosen. Include an appropriate pictures. card 6: Ending Card (freeform) Create a slide that says something like "Congratulations, now you have learned about 3 elements from the periodic table.
