There are two kinds of
courage: physical and moral.
Physical courage is the ability
to do something even though
faced with injury or death.
Moral courage is the ability to
stand up for what you think is
right, even though popular
opinion might say otherwise.
The Cowardly Lion showed
both moral and physical courage when he faces his fears

Military Ball
By: Russell Davis
The Military Ball is a very exThe Camden Rifle Team also
citing time for upper school Cadets. It’s puts on a performance that is based on
the one time each year that girls are “The Marine Corps Silent Drill”. They
welcomed on campus. The theme of the perform for about ten minutes, and it is
ball this year is “Here Comes the an excellent performance! They’ve
Night” and is going to be reminiscent of been preparing every night since returnthe 1940s. The main colors will be ing from Christmas break for the Miliblack, white, and red, and the tables tary Ball. They memorize all the moves
will be decorated with fluffy feathers and motions with the rifles without verbal commands. This takes hard work
and beautiful flowers.
A series of long-standing tradi- and many mistakes to get it perfect.
tions will transpire during the evening.
Cadets may take pictures with their
dates as they find their way into the
transformed rubber-floor gym. The
first official is the Promenade. Senior
Class officers escort their dates down a
set of stairs and are judged by a panel
of visiting judges. The winning couple
is the title of Queen and her escort and,
along with the runners-up, perform a
final procession through a tunnel of
raised sabers from assembled officers.
Finally, it is time for the seniors
to break-in the dance floor with a song
chosen by the Senior Class. All Cadets
then dance with their dates and have a
great time. There will also be delicious
food and drinks catered by SAGE, like
buffalo chicken, chips and salsa, fruit
and cheese trays, dipped marshmallows, chocolate covered pretzels,
chocolate covered strawberries, and
punch fountains for everyone to enjoy.
Parents are welcome to attend as well.
The Eagle Scout Project
By: Blake Moore
Only
about five
percent of
Boy Scouts
obtain the
rank of Eagle Scout.
One of the
main
reasons this percentage is so small is because
of the scope and magnitude of the Eagle
Scout project. This is a long and rigorous
process that few scouts complete. The
purpose of this project is to show the
scout’s leadership traits and qualities. Before a scout can even start his project he
has to get the project plan approved by
the organization benefitting from the effort, the Scoutmaster, Troop Committee,
and by the District Advancement Committee.
There are multiple limitations for
the project as well. The project cannot
involve council or BSA property, it may
these projects include Cadet Nick Aiello’s
restoration of the trail around Whitebranch Pond, Cadet Zack King’s construction of a woodshed for the upper fire
pit behind the school, Cadet Rafael
Tudela’s construction of a woodshed for
the lower fire pit, Cadet Josh Morin’s reconstruction of the road leading from the
air strip down to the Student Activities
barn, and Cadet Charles Carr’s erection of
a permanent flag pole and the construction of four sturdy picnic tables for the
lower campsite behind the school.
Troop 68 also has many Eagle
Scout projects currently in the planning
stages, such as Cadet Sean Olver’s brick
oven at the campground behind the
school, Cadet Stephen Chain’s construction of a shelter for the picnic area at the
campground and Cadet Daniel Koenig’s
plan to build bird houses and bat boxes to
place around campus.
On Mother’s Day Weekend,
Troop 68 will be honoring all of the

How do you feel
about the Varsity
Lacrosse
season
this year?
I’m pretty excited.
There is a lot of
young talent. We
have a lot of positions to replace, and we have a good group of athletes.
We are looking forward to a good season.
Does the Varsity team have a lot of depth talentwise?
We have a lot of depth. We have a lot of new players
that have played a fall or winter varsity sport. We can
still develop their talent but all in all we have a lot of
depth, more than any team in the last five years.
Are there any new teams you will play this year?
We added Greensboro Day School to the schedule to
play some out-of-state competition. We’ve kept the majority of our schedule the same, but we also picked-up
Rustburg High School and William Byrd High School.
What is the main goal for the team this year?
The main goal for the team is obviously that we want to
win. We also want to develop the boys into solid lacrosse players and to help them learn lessons in teamwork that they can use later on in life.
Are there any rivalries that are a must-win this
year?
Our biggest rivalries are always Randolph-Macon
Academy, Fork Union Military Academy and Roanoke
Catholic.
ATTENTION
Sophomores, Juniors
& Seniors:
The deadline for the Colin
Powell Leadership Medal is
April 3rd, 2012!!! See Sgt.
Maj. Hofer for details!
Who will be key players that will lead the team this
year?
Every single one of them.
You had many seniors with experience last year.
Who this year will fill their positions?
We graduated seventeen seniors from last year’s team,
so we have a huge hole to fill, particularly in the midfield.
What can we expect from the team this season?
You can look for a team with high-energy, skill and
physical dominance over the other teams.
How is the spirit around the lacrosse program heading in to Spring Sports?
The boys are pretty excited. The first day of practice
everybody was getting it done even though there was
snow on the ground. They were willing to work hard,
and they are committed to the team.
What are your expectations as the head coach for
your team?
My expectations as head coach are that everybody follows the formula: work hard, finish first in everything
they do, and for them, be successful!
CRYPTOGRAM
By: Dakota Minton
A cryptogram is a puzzle where a sentence is encoded by substituting the actual letters of the sentence with different letters. The challenge of the puzzle is to 'decode' the sentence to reveal the original
English sentence.
