Background Information:
Assessment Expectations:
This Year 7 HASS course is a year of work
assessing the curriculum outcomes in Civics,
History, Economics and Geography. A detailed
outline of the course has been set out below so
that you are aware of the course expectations and
requirements.
This year long course will require students to complete a number of
assessments. These assessments may include in-class tasks and work to be
completed at home. In Year 7 HASS students will receive a grade to reflect
their achievement. If students do not demonstrate the required understanding or
complete mandatory assessments they will receive a below the pass mark of
50%, which may result in a D or E grade for assessments on certain reporting
outcomes.
Assessments are weighted for semester reports. Each subject has four tasks
weighted 5 % each and 5 % is for homework, in class effort and behaviour – a
total of 25 % for each subject and 50% for achievements in each semester’s
report on two subjects in HASS.
Essential Equipment: Blue/red pens, 2x A4
64p.exercise books or line paper, pencils, eraser,
ruler, sharpener, textas or coloured pencils,
highlighters and a calculator.

 Methods and sources used to investigate the mystery and

Unit 1 – Water in the world
 The classification of environmental resources and the forms
that water takes as a resource
 The quantity and variability of Australia’s water resources
compared with those in other continents
 The nature of water scarcity and ways of overcoming it
Depth Study 2 – Investigating Rome
Unit 2 – Place and liveability
 The factors that influence the decisions people make about
where to live and their perceptions of the liveability of places
 The influence of accessibility to services and facilities on the
liveability of places
 The influence of environmental quality on the liveability of
places
 The strategies used to enhance the liveability of places,
especially for young people, including examples from
Australia and Europe
 The physical features of ancient Egypt and how they
influenced the development of civilisation
 Roles of key groups in ancient Egyptian society
 The significant beliefs, values and practices of ancient
Egyptians
 The role of significant people
Homework Requirements:
Homework is given to students to enhance their knowledge of course content and practise literacy / HASS skills. Four homework
