The Children house
There has been a fantastic buzz in the air in the Children’s House the past fortnight. Mother’s Day
has been the main topic in the room and the children have begun to prepare their special gifts for
their very special mum’s.
The children have all shown a strong interest and understanding of the zones of regulation, we are
so proud of their achievements and development with this topic. The children are able to recognise
each colour for the zones and the behaviour which they stand for. The children have participated
in a Laughter Yoga session, which was a lot of fun. The children had to act out a few things we all
do at home before arriving at school and whilst doing the action the children laughed out loud. This
was enjoyed by all.
Finn was our star of the week, Finn brought in a few wonderful photos of his family and brought in
his favourite toy, Thomas the Tank engine. The children enjoyed listening to the stories Finn told
us and loved seeing Finns pet snail.
The children have been showing a huge improvement with their name recognition, The children are
now able to say their first and last name, recognise their name when it is written down and are able
to trace their names, following the dotted lines. The next step we would like to take is for the
children to learn their Mum and Dad names.
We are very excited to see what the next fortnight is going to bring
Natalie and Danielle
The Garden Room
Autumn is redolent of crisp evenings, crunchy apples, selfie moments (yes!) against vivid Autumn trees and
pumpkin pie…to name just a few! This fortnight the Garden Room children learnt all about Autumn produce.
The art activity encompassed apple Stamping with the hues of Autumn. The children delighted in exploring
the prints. To further encourage and support their creativity, stark tree templates were printed, and the
children were given bundles of earbuds as a medium to paint. In art, it is it is the process that is the hallmark
of development rather than the end product. Learning takes place as long as the child is engaged. In
numeracy, keeping with the Montessori method of learning from concrete to abstract, the children learnt
about Whole and Halves. The children observed the demonstration of slicing entire apples into halves. The
vocabulary associated with the processes are the fundamentals for fractions. This exercise was extended
with the children engaging a pictorial exercise of matching a variety of Whole and Half fruits. Early Literacy
exercises included the Tochboards and Sand Paper Letters. These are valuable exercises to support and
establish Early Literacy. The Touch board allows the child to refine and heighten his/her sense of touch. This
is further developed in the Sand Paper Letters as the muscular imprint allows the children to associate
sounds to a symbol, they also develop a visual impression and memory of the letter shapes while learning the
writing direction of the letter. Through active participation and engaging in the children’s interests, the next
week should be equally exciting!
