According to Jazz Hostels, “In a poll
of Americans by the American
Institute of Architects, the Empire
State Building outranked the White
House and San Francisco’s Golden
Gate Bridge as “America’s Favorite
Architecture.”
Raskob and Smith were the men
who decided to build The Empire State
Building. When it was built, it was a
great example of Art Deco which was
popular in the 1920’s and the
1930’s(“The Empire State
Building”World Book Student). Art
Deco is bold geometric shapes and
strong colors. Its colors are as strong
as a soldier going to war. It was built
in New York City because the land was
hard solid rock which helps support the
building (Doherty and Doherty 24). This magnificent building was
completed and opened in 1931 and
was known for it’s height until 40
years later when another skyscraper
was built and was taller. Most of New
Yorks tv stations and FM radio
commercials take place at the top of
the building("Amazing Facts about the Empire State Building”). With
the help of many construction
workers, they were able to finish it.
During the construction, 6 people died
from falling off the building.The
architectural designers were Shreve,
Lamb, and Harmon.

didn’t have all the equipment in the
1900s to make it. It was almost as
high as the sky! Next, it is in the
Art Deco style which was a
geometric style that was very
popular in the early

It makes it even more popular since
it has a great style. The buildings
lights change according to the
holiday.Finally, after its completion
it was the tallest building and for

forty years, another building was
built and was even taller than The
Empire State Building and soon more
were. It is still known for being the
tallest and its Art Deco. Go to New
