2016 Programme PDF - Hebden Bridge Arts Festival

WELCOME AND MAP
Hello and welcome to the 23rd
Hebden Bridge Arts Festival, where
the mills are ALIVE with the sounds
of ‘Trouser Town’!
In its heyday, Hebden Bridge made thousands of
pairs of trousers a week for the industrial working
classes, and 2016 sees the last surviving trouser
factory back in production, making modern
moleskins for the brand new HebTroCo!
On the festival production line this year: folk
goddess Kate Rusby brings her magic to the
newly refurbed Art Deco Picture House, you
can take a No.9 bus to Utopia, hear Simon
Armitage’s poems about rain, enjoy summer
grooves with St Etienne, talk Charlotte Brontë
with Tracy Chevalier and Salley Vickers,
check out Craig Charles’ funky sounds, download
a Yorkshire postman’s Recorded Delivery plus
two packed street days filled with fun and spectacle!
Hebden Bridge Arts Festival is a charity and without
the generous support of our funders, sponsors,
partners and volunteers, simply couldn’t continue.
Bring your friends and families
and join us for the greatest
show in town, and keep an
eye out for our limited edition
festival banner bags and rings!

Apocalypse Hay Wain reflects on a landscape increasingly
challenged by the changing climatic conditions associated
with global warming. The centrepiece of the exhibition is a
selection of flood damaged reproductions of Constable’s Hay
Wain, collected from charity shops by Simon Ford. These will
be accompanied by photographs of moors, reservoirs and the
River Calder.
The location of the Lee Mill clubhouse and its dilapidated nature will contribute
to the experience and increase awareness of the building which is currently
under threat. Tea and cake will be served.
Check out our website for details of pop-up exhibitions
from artists who were affected by flooding.
