There is an Indian proverb that says that
everyone is a house with four rooms, a
physical, a mental, an emotional and a
spiritual.
Most of us tend to live in one room most
of the time but unless we go into every
room every day, even if only to keep it
aired, we are not a complete person.

The Butterfly Model P.U.P.A.E. Process
A Summary
www.royleighton.com
Purpose and Passion - Start with an attitude of gratitude. What’s already working well?
○ What do you need to keep?
○ What do you want to develop?
Understand - How are we going to work together? Clarify roles, responsibilities and rewards.
(Do your roles, responsibilities fit your original purpose? Do you need to make any adjustments to either
the purpose or the roles?)
Plan - Create a basic plan of action. What do you need stop and let go of?
(Does your plan fit the roles and responsibilities and your original purpose? Do you need to make any
adjustments in either the purpose, the roles or the plan?
Resist the urge to take action until the Purpose, Understanding and Plan stages are clearly defined
and agreed upon. Failure to invest time in this at the beginning will lead to confusion and potential
failure and fall out further down the line.
4.
5.
6.
Act - Act on the plan.
Evaluate - Assess the impact. Re-plan. Re-Act. Re-Evaluate.
Embed - At the end of the process make sure systems are in place to embed the new and emerging
culture and mindset.
