2017 Season Outlook: The Cardinals are coming off of one of their most successful fall seasons in
program history. We will look for new additions to step up for them in the upcoming spring season
espicially at 3 key positions (RF, SS, and C). In RF, we lost a big bat in our lineup in Kevin Roach (torn
ACL). Cameron Murer, Tyler Reid, and Tanner Sizemore look to compete for the RF position. We also
lost our leadoff hitter and SS Kevin Edgington (graduation). Look for returners Anthony DiSerio,
Frankie Lopez, and making his return from a broken leg, Greg Huss to compete for 2B and SS. Finally

we will use two catchers this spring. Jake Langeman and Connor Price look to split the catching duty.
After Baumgartner, the pitching staff will be inexperienced but talented. Our number 2 and 3 starters
will be Sharpe Marshall (2 career starts) and Tanner Sizemore (1 career start). As far as the bullpen, our
closer this year will be converted starter Matt Gray with relief apperances made by Joe Hall, Tyler Reid,
and Cameron Murer. Colton Fang will return as the starting 3rd Baseman and Daniel Aultman will

the mound outside of two bullpen pitchers.

- Connor Rolain. Transfer from NCAA D1 Illinois-Chicago. Athletic Center fielder who can flat
out crush the baseball.
- Nick Williams. Transfer from NCAA D2 school in Boston.
- Expecting big things out of big-bat returners: Aaron Peterson; Colten Demorett; Ed Olson; Tyler Safgren;

- Austin Mullins. Bullpen pitcher who can come in long relief and shut teams down. Has a plus
slider.
- Jake Cavaiani. Sophomore shortstop with a slick glove and a smooth swing. He will be the
everday shortstop and provides excellent defense up the middle that only complements his stick.

2017 Season Outlook: With UW returning everybody as well as adding some studs in the fall, the Badgers
have a legitimate shot at making the World Series after falling just a game short last year. The pitching
staff is absolutely loaded, with four strong and proven starters: Alex Noel, Nick Williams, Nick Newberg,
and Mike Hansen. The bullpen should be strong as well, led by Austin Mullins and James Oelke.
Complemented by Cam Porter, Hunter Bindl, Hunter Bailey and Evan Polce. All regular starters return
to the field and the lineup is strong top to bottom. I think one thing we were missing last year was
another consistent power bat and the addition of D1 transfer Conor Rolain should help in that regard. If
Nick Newburg, Colten Demorett, Ed Olson can build on their seasons last year and gain a little more
consistency this should be one of the best lineups the Badgers have fielded in a long time. Senior Aaron
Peterson did an excellent job setting the table last year. Brian Mariska refound his old form at the end of
the year... he led the team in hitting his freshman year so the ceiling is very high with him as well. The
badgers best offensive lineup isn't their best defensive lineup but there are some defensive stalwarts to
complement them in Adam Mattson and Taylor Tomczak.. guys who have and are capable of starting
and holding their own at the plate. John Raff is probably one of.. if not the... best defensive catchers in
the NCBA and has improved his hitting over the years. The ceiling is very high for the Badgers if they
work hard in the remainder of the offseason and execute in-season.
Manager Quote: We were knocking on the door last year and it took an unbelievable comeback from
Illinois to knock us out of the regional.. one in which we didn't collapse at all... they just kept finding
holes.. on good pitches too. It was the oddes way to lose. We raked and put up a lot of runs... although
we had a ton of RFA's and could have put up more. Mike Hansen has a no-hitter through 5 and a
shutout through 6 still... then hits started to fall and they just did an excellent job of getting the barrel on
the ball. They hit a lot of good pitches to be honest. It just shows what it takes to make a world series
run. You need to take full advantage of every opportunity and never take anything for granted. This
team has the potential for a deep WS run, but it will be up to them if they want to do the work every day
and prepare in the way they need to. Even then it takes some things to go right for you along the way. I
will say I feel as good about this team as I have any in a long, long time. The talent and leadership is
there.

2017 Season Outlook: In ISU's 10th season competing in the NCBA the Redbirds look to make a run at its
first World Series appearance. Conor Funk and Chuck Schempf look to go out with a bang in their 4th
and final season with the Redbirds. As the last two players that were apart of our 2013-2014 Conference
Championship team they are eager to bring another title to ISU. The Redbirds bring back 13 players
from last years team, several of which are experienced position players along with a couple of power
pitchers. After a strong fall season we are confident that our new additions to the team will make us
much more dangerous than in years past. The pitching staff is deeper and stronger than its been in years.
If our arms can stay healthy we will be poised to be contenders in the Great Lakes Conference.
