Career Development Services t: 239-590-7946 e: [email protected] w: http://studentservices.fgcu.edu/careers Frequently Asked Questions about Campus Employment Q. Where are on-campus jobs posted? A. FGCU Career Development Services provides the use of a job listing website called Eagle Career Link. This system allows student to access postings 24/7 from any computer. Jobs are not kept in a binder in the Career Center. Q. How do students apply for on-campus jobs? A. 1. To access the site, go to https://fgcu-csm.symplicity.com/ and select “Students/Alumni.” If this is your first time logging in, enter your email and click “Forgot Password”. A link to set your password will be emailed. All FGCU students have an Eagle Career Link account created. 2. Once you have logged in, from your homepage, select “Opportunities – Jobs, Internships, Co-Ops, Service, Research” in the left-hand panel. 3. In the search criteria bar enter “FGCU” or “Florida Gulf Coast University”. 4. Click on the job for more information about the qualifications and application process. FGCU Career Services or Financial Aid does not “place” students into campus jobs. It is the responsibility of the student to identify the position he/she is interested in and apply directly to that department. In most cases, students will be asked to apply by submitting a resume. Sample resumes are available in the Career Center (first floor, Cohen Center) and on the Career Development Services website. Q. What is “work study?” A. The Federal Work-Study (FWS) program provides part-time jobs for undergraduates and graduate students with financial need, allowing them to earn money to help pay education expenses. Students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) each year by the priority deadline date of March 1st in order to determine eligibility for the program. The rate of pay is at least the current federal minimum wage but can be higher depending on the type of work the student performs and the skills required. Student must be enrolled at least halftime in a degree-seeking program and must be meeting satisfactory academic progress to be eligible for the program. Q. How does a student know if he/she has “work study” eligibility? A. Student must have an official, completed FAFSA in order to determine Federal Work Study eligibility. Students will need to visit the FGCU Financial Aid homepage, click on “Work Study” and submit a request to determine eligibility. The Financial Aid office will reply with eligibility information. A student that has confirmed FWS eligibility may then pursue a FWS position. Confirmation of FWS eligibility does not guarantee a FWS position. Q. Are students guaranteed a job on campus? A. No. While the University does hire hundreds of students each year, at any given time there may be more students looking for jobs than there are openings. Even students with FWS eligibility are not guaranteed an FWS position. Students unable to find campus employment may want to also consider pursuing opportunities at many of the businesses near the campus. Students can also enhance their marketability to prospective campus departments by having a well-written resume, effective interviewing skills, and professional-looking attire to wear to the interview.
