Article I (1) Legislative Branch
• 1. Preamble- states the purpose of the
Constitution
• 2. Article 1- Legislative Branch of Government
• 3. House of Representatives and Senate make
up Congress
• 4. Necessary and Proper clause (elastic
clause)- this clause states that government
can make any and all laws that are necessary
and proper
Qualifications for the House of
Representatives
• 1. must be at least 25 years old
• 2. must be a citizen of the U.S. for 7 years
• 3. must be a resident (live in) the state from
which they are elected
Qualifications for Senate
• 1. must be at least 30 years old
• 2. must be a citizen of the U.S. for 9 years
• 3. must be a resident (live in)of the state from
which they are elected
Senate

1. Senators serve for 6 years
2. Each state has 2 senators for a total of 100
3. Senate holds trials of impeachment
4. Leader of the Senate in the Vice President
but if he is unavailable, the President Pro
tempore of the Senate is in charge
House of Representatives
• 1. Representatives serve for 2 years
• 2. Each state has at least 1 representative
• 3. The total number of representatives in a
state is based on population of that state
• 4. The Speaker of the House if the leader of
the House of Representatives
Article I Continued
• 1. Must be able to explain how a bill becomes
a law
• 2. Bills of revenue must come from the House
of Representatives
• 3. Congress must meet at least 1 time per
year
• 4. Section 8 lists the Powers of Congress and
powers denied to Congress
• 5. Congress has the power to declare war!
Article II (2) Executive Branch
• 1. Article II is the Executive Branch
Qualifications for President and Vice
President
• 1. must be a natural born citizen
• 2. must be at least 35 years old
• 3. must be a resident (live in) the U.S. for the
last 14 years

• 1. Electors elect the President
• 2. Electors are not Representatives or Senators
• 3. President is the Commander-in-Chief of the
Army and Navy
• 4. President can make treaties if 2/3 of the
Senate approves (remember the fraction)
• 5. President must make the State of the Union
address to inform Congress of information at
least one time per year
Article II continued
• 6. President and Vice President can be
impeached and can impeach federal officials
• President, Vice President, Electors, and
Cabinet make up Executive branch
• Electors equal the number of Representatives
and Senators of that state
• President serves for 4 years
Article III (3) Judicial Branch
• 1. The Supreme Court is the judicial branch of
government
• 2. Treason against the U.S. consists of
bringing war against the U.S.
• 3. Supreme court justices serve for life terms
• 4. There are 9 Supreme court justices
Qualifications for Supreme Court
• 1. They are chosen by the President and the
approved by the Senate
Article IV (4) Relations Among the
States
• 1. Guarantees a Republican form of
government
Article V (5) Amending the
Constitution
• 1. 2/3 vote of Congress
• 2. 2/3 vote of the state legislative conventions
Article VI (6) National Supremacy
• 1. The Constitution is the Supreme law of the
land
Article VII (7) Ratification Process for
the Constitution
• 1. September 17, 1787
