About us
Established in 1919 and governed by a Board of
Directors, UnitingCare Wesley Port Adelaide (UCWPA)
is a community service agency of the Uniting Church
in Australia and forms part of the national
UnitingCare network.
Our Vision is for a compassionate, respectful and just
community in which all people participate and flourish.
Volunteer
More than 1,000 staff and 130 volunteers deliver a diverse
range of programs across aged care, community welfare
and employment services. Each year, UCWPA assist more
than 18,000 people in need.
“My volunteering experience has
helped me gain valuable knowledge
about the importance of community
services. I have been helping children
and disadvantaged families at Seaton
Central by assisting with administration tasks and participating in the
development of children’s
programs and resources.
I look forward to continuing
my involvement with
UnitingCare Wesley Port
Adelaide and appreciate
the opportunity to try and
make a difference.”

Be a hero.
Volunteer and
make a world
of difference.
How can I make
a difference?
It’s easy! Just donate a little bit of your time
to help someone else.
We all enjoy doing simple things like visiting friends,
cooking, gardening, reading and shopping but what if your
circumstance meant that you couldn’t?
What can I do?
Betty’s story
At UnitingCare Wesley Port Adelaide, we offer a variety of
volunteer opportunities across aged care and community
services. These can include:
Betty is a volunteer with an enormous heart who has
devoted 21 years of service to UnitingCare Wesley Port
Adelaide (UCWPA). Betty provides assistance with
business finances like account keeping, invoicing and
banking and often serves customers in the shop front
of ‘Grandmas Pantry’ – a food retail enterprise that is
dedicated to supporting people living with disabilities.
» being a companion
» walking, reading and gardening with aged care residents
Simply by sharing the things you enjoy doing with someone who
may need a little assistance, such as a vulnerable young person
or a frail older person, you’ll be making a huge difference.
» attending client outings
We invite you to lend a helping hand in our aged care facilities,
community welfare programs and outreach centres. Whatever
time you have available, we will match your passion, skills and
experience to a volunteer role that is best suited to you.
» helping at special events
Let’s work together to empower the people around us, build
communities and strengthen families.
» co-ordinating art and craft activities
» assisting with administrative tasks
» assisting with recreational programs
» distributing emergency food parcels, vouchers and clothes
» offering support at playgroups and crèche
» mentoring clients in computing and adult learning

Betty puts the needs of others before hers and has great
belief in what can be achieved if we all work together.
Some of her most memorable experiences as a volunteer
have included filling in for a staff member on maternity
leave and attending an awards night in 2007 where
she was the grateful recipient of a ‘Training and Skills
Competency Award’.
Betty is a hero and so are you!
“I think UCWPA offers really important
services for people in our community
who are living with a disability
and I want to help this
service to thrive. I try to
make the staff feel
treasured and seek to
provide assistance in a
way that makes their
jobs a bit easier.”
